He does look like a fun, fast character to play as.

Now, with that out of the way, of course it's weird to have Sonic in Smash Bros. But it's weird to have Snake in Smash Bros., and if you ask me, it would be even weirder to have Snake and a couple of other third party characters without Sonic there.
Frankly, I half expected this update. Sonic just fits. Smash Bros. is a celebration of Nintendo character history, and Sonic was a massive part of Nintendo history, even though he was never directly involved.
It's just a shame they're using the most recent character model, which I'm not hugely fond of. What's wrong with his face? ;-; I prefer his more serious looking Adventure style. He looks too rubbery recently. That said though, it doesn't really matter, because he looks excellent in motion. And he has the old skidding and jumping sound effects! That's just plain brill.
I will add: pause the video when Sonic hits Mario at the start and look at Mario's expression. It's priceless. 'Like, whatever, Mr. Tries Too Hard'.
Anyway, the other video is excellent is well, it's lovely to see Ike and various other characters in motion. Check out all the poses too. o.o I predict a return of the 'appearance' animations from the original game. And Peach Bomber can now freeze enemies?
This game fills me with so much glee. So much. I never expected the sequel to Melee to be this stunning.
But... ME WANT TAILS. ;-;

Well, one thing about Brawl is that it manages to encompass a ton of fandoms...it'll reach a much larger audience than any one 'core' fandom game ever would.

Seriously, who honestly didn't see this coming for years? The only real suprise is that they announced it on the site instead of letting people find out when they got the game and unlocked him.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go party with my Knuckles wristband on.

WHY DID THEY USE THE ADVENTURE THEME FOR SONIC? D:
I guess the reason is that the Adventure games were technically Nintendo games (at least partially) while the original three games were only on Sega systems (although there was the collections games and the VC, so that isn't really a valid arguement)...
Well, I just argued myself out of that sentence, so I'll go back to complaining.
Why didn't they use the original Sonic music? It seems very, very un-"Super Smash Bros."-like of them to do that when they seem to take so much joy in being retro.
But, I digress. I predict that they just used that music for the trailer and that they will have the original music scores in the game (the sound effects have never really changed throughout the Sonic series, so no worries there).
I wonder if a Green Hill Zone stage is too much to hope for... :D
Also, Super Sonic = :DDDDDD
Also also, Knuckles > Tails. *runs from Fyxe*

Wroooong, Knuckles is a doofus. I mean, honestly, how many times has Robotnik tricked him? Also also, Knuckles > Tails. *runs from Fyxe*
Besides, he has a stupid pointy nose and Tails is as cute as a button on a kitten's forehead.
Anyway, as for the music, there's bound to be more than one Sonic tune in the game, they just used the one with lyrics since it's his 'theme', I suppose. The first Metal Gear song we heard is a recent one from MGS4, but then we got one from the original MGS later once everyone grew used to Snake being in the game.

Uh, they didn't actually announce it on the site, and its only natural they would market the shit outa Sonic if he was in.The only real suprise is that they announced it on the site instead of letting people find out when they got the game and unlocked him.
Anyway, Megaman's next? Monster Hunter 3 for Wii might imply so... Also, I guess Marth is a pretty safe bet now with the FE remake for DS. Good news all around.
Well, the American release date is back to TBA, so I wouldn?t be too confident.long time coming, and we finally have it confirmed. Also, Im' just glad the delay won't be for US audiences (sorry, if you ever read this, Burgundy Tears)

Technically, they didn't even first announce it at the recent conference, since Sega mentioned Sonic in SSBB a long time ago (I have nothing on hand to back that up, I just remember reading about that conference), but even then you know what I meant.Uh, they didn't actually announce it on the site, and its only natural they would market the shit outa Sonic if he was in.
And yeah, it is natural, but it still felt un-SSB of them to do so. :o But they are trying a lot of new things with this game, and making us giggle (or cream our pants) with glee months ahead of time over and over again isn't something I can complain about.
I was thinking about that a while ago. It would be cool, but it's an odd situation. Megaman went from Nintendo to other systems instead of the other way around (Sonic), so it would be interesting to see if he still gets in.Anyway, Megaman's next?
I wouldn't be that surprised to see him in Brawl, but I would rather see him in the next SSB game.

Aside from that, it could be a fight out between Bomberman or Megaman. I would prefer Bomberman. Mega's okay, but Bomberman would be more fun, I think.
...Or maybe they'll just add Ryu. After all, he IS a fighting game character. Kind of the biggest name in fighting games, too.

I understood (reluctantly) that Snake got put in because of Kojima's nagging. But not Sonic.
Rather than a Nintendo fighting game, this is turning out to look more like a Nintendo Vs Konami Vs Sega, etc etc game.
Sonic looks cool, but the game just lost a couple notches of respect as a Nintendo game for me.

We've known since Snake was revealed (in the first trailer) that he was not likely to be the only third party character, Sakurai said this.
Meh. F-Zero GX was the best game in the series and that was developed by Sega, and lost none of it's charm. Brawl is not going to be any less of a Nintendo game.
...Although technically it's being made by 'Sora' anyway. XP

Actually, no.
But it was the theme of the first Sonic game to appear on a Nintendo console - Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for GameCube.
I understood (reluctantly) that Snake got put in because of Kojima's nagging. But not Sonic.
And I'd presume Sonic got in because he's the most requested 3rd party character (in fact, I believe, the most requested of ANY character) among the fandom?
And they haven't put in any characters who haven't appeared on Nintendo consoles. :/

Miyamoto said they were having discussions about adding Sonic, and Sakurai said there would be two or three third party characters, but I don't think Sega ever said anything about it. Anyway, yeah, I know what you meant.Technically, they didn't even first announce it at the recent conference, since Sega mentioned Sonic in SSBB a long time ago (I have nothing on hand to back that up, I just remember reading about that conference), but even then you know what I meant.
Who cares? Smash Bros. and Melee only had Nintendo characters. Brawl is the future. It's still a Nintendo game, still Smash Bros., just with extra third party characters. It's not a problem unless you make it one.Personally, I'm pissed. Not that Sonic is in a game character fighting game. But that he's in a game character fighting game centered around Nintendo characters.
Didn't Nintendo form a new production team for this? I don't think Sakurai's studio has anything to do with it....Although technically it's being made by 'Sora' anyway. XP

I don't really like the new Sonic, either, although the inner old-school Sonic fan is doing a happy dance right now.
And about the first (not sonic) movie update, the sandbag's a trophy; does that mean that that fun challenge is gone now?

Maybe they finally skipped the middleman and just made him a giant tampon.
...or got rid of him because that whole thing was pretty lame.

First, it wasn't fun. Second, Sandbag was a trophy in Melee. Third, you're not making any sense. And about the first (not sonic) movie update, the sandbag's a trophy; does that mean that that fun challenge is gone now?

I recall in an early interview with Sakurai that Sora was involved, but I could be wrong.Didn't Nintendo form a new production team for this? I don't think Sakurai's studio has anything to do with it.
Dude, it's like, right here, pay attention to the very forum you're on. XPWait, what? I heard about a FE DS game, but it's actually a remake?

Tails was awesome.Who DOESN'T like Tails? Fools, that's who. People who don't like nice things.

And Knuckles was just... cool. ;3; Stupid, but cool. It was because of him that Sonic 3 & Knuckles had such an amazing plot. Plus he was fun to punch with. Paunch, paunch, paunch. KNUCKLES PAUNCH.
Oops, getting off topic.

I'm gonna call up my old friends from school, we'll divide into halves, one SNES one Mega Drive, and we're all going to look at each other and cry. Cry like girls (who didn't play video games in those days).

Anyways, in terms of other 3rd party characters, I'd like to see "Black Mage" and "White Mage" from the Final Fantasy series in there. No specific characters, as they'd stick out too much from everyone else, and there are far to many to choose from.

And it would be cool to have a summoner, kind of like the Pokemon Trainer.
First, yes it was. Second, as I've previously stated, I DON'T HAVE MELEE. Third, my sarcasm is just lost on some people. Maybe I just don't use it enough.First, it wasn't fun. An excellent reason for you to shut your mouth about it. How do you know either way about the Sanbag minigame if you don't have the game? That's right, you don't.Second, as I've previously stated, I DON'T HAVE MELEE.
And I guess my sarcasm is lost on some people, too.
Look closely and you will see the growing madness in the blank stare of Mario's eyes. It's like "What the hell is wrong with this picture?!" That, or his machoer-than-thou pose is just really forced.
I'm gonna call up my old friends from school, we'll divide into halves, one SNES one Mega Drive, and we're all going to look at each other and cry. Cry like girls (who didn't play video games in those days).
As for Sonic, he's just happy to be in a game that doesn't, you know, suck.
