You'd think the three would cancel each other out.

Just watch one or two episodes of the cartoon. Even opposing elements somehow turn into an extreme awesome to the max attack.

edit; Oh, also, in the show levels and evolution don't actually matter.
I don't get it.

An item that gave you temporary Pokerus would be cool.

If the show made a bid deal of levels and evolution, Ash's Pikachu would be a god among Pokemon and never be able to lose. He's been traveling for years now, and Pikachu is always his main Pokemon. It must be like a level 200 by now.

Iiiits... That guy! Y'know, that one! Lucas!

I still think it's sickening that the GBA Mother games never got a release outside Japan. Rubbishness.

I imagine the NoA localization department is seeing this update and probably going "Oh shit, we gotta get Mother 3 translated!"

I wonder if it's legal for them to take one of the translations that's probably already floating around online.

Actually, you'd think the sunbeam would snuff out the fire and evaporate the water.

Hey, I just happened to find an updated picture of the Brawl selection screen similar to the one I posted weeks ago!

Does the fact they've announced Lucas and not Ness mean that Lucas is replacing him?

Probably, I'd guess. Not that I care; one random character you know nothing about is much the same as another.

I never much liked ness anyway, most of his b moves were worthless...
my opinion:

Pk flash - useless unless you really really time it well. Then you can still do better with marth.
Pk fire - minimal percent damage and otherwise useless.
Pk energy shield thingy - could be good if used well, but not really worth it in the end
Pk thunder - i actually like this move *gasp* not that it actually has any practical purpose except for recovery, which hurts you...

End my opinion, for those of you who just don't care or like ness...

*massive facefault* Clearly you have no experience using Ness.

PK Flash - use it on opponents who are wasting their time fighting each other
PK Fire - it sets the opponent up for a nice smash attack while they're getting burned (homerun bat ftw)
PK Shield - use it if your opponent loves to spam energy attacks
PK Thunder - IT DOESN'T HURT YOU, and I like barreling into people with it

Well, at least they'll have some NES sprites in the form of assist trophies. I still think they should be alternate costumes...

Or maybe an item that turns characters intosome form of their pixelated counterparts. :D Unlikely, but I enjoy entertaining the idea.

Probably. Ness is dead by the time Mother 3 roles around and its Lucas who finishes the fight with Pokey.

I imagine the NoA localization department is seeing this update and probably going "Oh shit, we gotta get Mother 3 translated!"

I'd be surprised if they did. Mother 3 is one hell of a dark game, Lucas's mother is killed in the first few chapters and thats not the end of the drama either.

...This is SMASH BROTHERS. Since when has it gave a damn about continuity?

I'd like to think that Lucas and Ike are replacing Ness and Marth/Roy, respectively. If all the developers of the Super Smash Bros. series did was add new characters without removing or replacing any, by Super Smash Bros. 5, there will be like 60 characters. As much as some people would like that, it would be unneccesarily excessive.

Yeah, exactly. It's actually a smart move on their part to switch in and out the more obscure characters, as it keeps the game interesting and gets people to look at games they would otherwise know nothing about; besides, the gameplay of the character isn't going anywhere.

Except that from what we can tell, Ike and Lucas don't have the same moves as the characters they're apparently replacing.

The way Sakurai mentions Ness in the Lucas update suggests that Ness is still in the game and this is merely a second Earthbound character, which isn't exactly as wild and crazy as people seem to be thinking.

With Ike, it's different, because there are already two FE characters. Replacing one with another that is known more widely outside Japan makes sense. Replacing Marth as well is a step too far, however. Reducing a series from two characters to one seems very bizarre, especially when it's one of the success stories of Melee that they'd be removing.

...This is SMASH BROTHERS. Since when has it gave a damn about continuity?

Its nothing to do with that, more that they'll end up as clones and last I checked they were supposed to be trying not to do that this time.

Lucas is literally a carbon clone in Mother 3 of Ness with the same weapons , equips and moves even down to the clothes. You could literally replace Ness's name with Lucas in Earthbound and there wouldn't be much difference except cosmetic ones. That and the update makes it sound as if hes supposed to succeed Ness.

Wow, you're just spoilerific today, aren't you?

Does it matter? Its not as if they'll be localizing it anytime soon.

I don't get why they don't localize it, honestly. The Earthbound/Mother series is more widely known than ever thanks to the SSB games.

And now there's also 2P co-op adventure mode and even a map. The story is taken quite deeply this time round, in Melee it was just a mix of all different types of stages loosely based on the respective series.

Oh, oh yes. :D Co-op mode in SSB? This is going to be amazing, not to mention incredibly fun practice for 2x2 matches.

I hope that we get to take on Master Hand in co-op. ;3;

I'm sure they'd sooner involve boots or a top hat than an excessive number of hands.... Still, this worries me.

What, the multiple number of hands? I doubt it'll get too crazy. The most they would do, in my opinion, is have two sets of hands, maybe putting them on each end of the field to toss you back and forth.

As far as I can tell, the hands are a callback to the intro of the original Super Smash Brothers. It always felt like a part-magician, part-child entity that was controlling everyone's destiny. Which, I suspect, is inherently awesome.

Put simply, I always saw them as the hands of the owner of the trophies that were the characters.

I like that sentence. :D
