Flint, they're clones from a design standpoint. They're based on each other's character models and share some of the same moves with the exact same animations. For example -
Jigglypuff - A few of her attacks are just like Kirby's, namely her forward Smash, her jumping, obviously, and a few other moves.
Captain F. - The most obvious cloned move is his upwards attack (non-Smash) although some of his other moves are the same, such as a couple of his aerial moves and his dashing move.
Ness - The most changed of all the 'clones'. The most noticable remnant of Mario is his standing punch punch kick combo, but also his forward kicks and his backward kick in the air.
Of course, they all play entirely different, but none of the eight main characters share any moves or animations, while these guys are based on some of the main eight.
Just a few comments on the pics while I'm at it -
1 - Where IS this? I can't work out who's level this is meant to be.
2 - This shot could be taken straight from Twilight Princess.
3 - This whole area screams 'Fire Emblem' to me, but I suppose it might be a location from Twilight Princess. Does anyone recognise the logos from the banners?
4 - Same logo on the outside of the castle. Is this part of one larger level? Also, notice Meta-Knight's logo on his shoulder pad. That's new.
5 - Ow.
6 - Meta-Knight kicking yet more ass on his level.
7 - That ship is the 'Halberd' from Kirby Super Star, for those who don't know. It was Meta-Knight's ship that he used in his attempt to take over Dreamland.
8 - Fwomph.
9 - Pit has remarkably big feet. And you know what that means!
Big sandals.
10 - That is one cool looking rendition of the Halberd. It even appears to have the huge double cannon up top that Kirby destroyed in Revenge of Meta-Knight. Nice touch.
11 - AHKILLITKILLIT.
12 - This attack not at all Final Fantasy influenced.
13 - Nor this one.
