The Dark Knight from PoR is, unfortunately, extremely likely. He's just as marketable and well-known as Ike is, he'd be differentiated from other sword users because he'd be so heavy, and Sakurai has gone on record saying that he wants to include more bad guys in the cast.

Which sucks, since I find the Dark Knight even more boring than Ike, and more likely than Lyn.

Feh, purists.

I wouldn't mind the Black Knight, but if I had the choice I'd rather see one of the Laguz Kings from PoR or GoD. Problem is with the Black Knight, you have already have Ike, whose style is strength before speed. The Black Knight would just be an enhanced version of that.

But as you say, he is very likely, especially since

Spoiler : click to show/hide

He's in Goddess of Dawn

Huh... that's interesting...

I had no idea Ike was so unpopular. I, personally, loved his character, personality-wise and story-wise. Maybe I just 'connected' with Ike personally. I guess what I liked about Ike was how he had so little confidence in himself- and he said he was just being realistic. I love that kind of character, and I got really involved with the whole story of PoR. It had everything- involving gameplay, interesting characters, excellent plot twists, and I loved the whole racism theme. And I thought the Black Knight was an interesting villian too. Maybe a little cliche, but I liked him... and he had a catchy theme song. I just thought PoR was an incredible game (except the ending). I didn't know what hit me (I didn't even want the game- I got it on accident).

Of course, I should probably say that PoR is the only Fire Emblem game I've ever played... Not to mention the only actual RPG I've ever played, besides Pokemon.

So I suppose I'm just incredibly ignorant as to how good a game, or at least an RPG, can be!

But, anyways, I'm thrilled that I can play as Ike in SSBB. :D And I'd be happy to see the Black Knight in an update too.

I also can't wait for Goddess of Dawn. But... I was spoiled. Months before the game came out, I somehow stumbled upon a huge spoiler. A shocking, "Bruce-Willis-is-Dead" type of spoiler. And, let me tell you, that sucks. I wish I could get my memory erased. I really do.

The trophy thing has been a part of the game since the original SSB, where Master Hand brought the Nintendo "dolls" to life. Melee's intro kind of makes it clear too.

I like it, personally. Explains why they're trying to beat the shit out of eachother. Not that it needs to, but its nice anyway.

I'm sorry if I'm taking this out of context but, I always figured that SSB was a bunch of toys(trophies) that belong to... kid "X" ?

The toys then come to life do to the Kid's imagination. See the situation as... like... a kid playing with action figures!? Master Hand being the kids hand... Quite in fact I can't remember if in the intro of SSBM there is a real hand or the Master Hand throwing a certain trophy...

Anyway... Perhaps I saw too much into something that isn't that interesting to begin with  or maybe I'm stating something that is fairly obvious or not true at all to begin with... I have no idea...

Hmm Ike... Ohh well, hes just there to beat the leaving crap out of everyone else, the same could be said the other way around so... the character itself isn't that big a problem for me, their moves on the other hand are.

I know this was a while ago, but the mysterious character is the evil sandbag. He's come back for revenge!!!!!!!

BTW, one of the baddies in the clouds looks like Ridley. This is cool if it's true.

Okay, firstly, lets NOT discuss Goddess of Dawn here? Especially spoilers? Considering the game doesn't even technically have a US name yet, let alone a European release date? THANKS. I know people have been using spoiler tags but best to avoid letting things slip entirely by just not discussing it. Keep it to a Goddess of Dawn topic, so I can avoid it please, don't put it here.

Anyway, it's not that Ike is particularly unpopular, he's just a lot less popular than every other Lord ever. So it's just a shame that he's also the most recognisable outside of Japan.

However, I'd argue that Marth and Roy still remain more recognisable than Ike, but that's a different issue.

Also, why does everyone think the 'mysterous villian' is Sandbag? Even as a joke? It looks nothing like him.

Sorry about discussing GoD. :deadlink: Won't happen again.

Anyways, I'd have to say that I doubt Marth will be in it. I guess the argument that Marth and Ike look alike does make sense... well, on second thought, not too much sense. After all, I guess they look alike only as much as Pikachu and Pichu do. But I've just got a hunch. And even if the FE logo is a Falchion, I don't see why they'd change the logo just because Marth isn't in it anymore. It still represents FE itself.

And I can see the resemblance to the Sandbag. It's like the thingy's head is the Sandbag, and the bottom half of the head is coloured purple, and the eyes are coloured red.

Agreed! I liked the Black Knight because he was so mysterious. And his theme tune was brilliant, too - I'm playing it in my head now and I haven't played the game in over a year. Very cool.

I always thought it was rather odd that FE managed to get two characters when more popular and well-known series like, say, Donkey Kong or Kirby only got one character.

Me too. At least Kirby's got Meta Knight now, though. Eathbound, Donkey Kong, and Metroid are still awaiting new characters, which is a shame. Logical choices for Metroid and Donkey Kong would be Ridley and K. Rool respectively, but I'm not sure about Earthbound, because I don't follow the series.

Diddy would be more logical than K. Rool.

I didn't mention Metroid since, at the time of Melee, the series had ended with Super Metroid.

He claims it's generic, but it's not; you can see the symbol of Daein on the flags.

Goddes of the Dawn Spoilers, possibly:
Spoiler : click to show/hide
And I believe that the third picture shows some Begnion soldiers.

I think it's possible that this level is actually from GoD, and he's just not saying so straight out to avoid spoiling people - the game hasn't come out yet, after all.

EDIT: Someone at another forum I go to took the screenshot of them falling down under the castle and upped the contrast:

In the editor's own words, "Bastardized version of update." I should probably put this in my sig...

Back on topic here, I like the idea of a third Fire Emblem character; I'd wager that Marth and Roy will be in the game, as well. Now, if we'd just get the goddarn ICE CLIMBERS onto that list (or maybe Kefka... or Relm *BRICK'd*), I'd be happy.

This sort of amuses me. All that speculation about which game it was from and all. And, really, I like the idea. I'd love to see a Death Mountain stage, for example, with no hard evidence toward any specific Zelda era. Leave the deets to the player's imagination. Not for all the stages, of course, but some of them.

I've seen people mention this elsewhere.

It is not the symbol of Daein, and the castle does not look like Daein Keep. The picture doesn't show the symbol of Daein. Compare the flags.

As for the soldiers, well, they're generic blood red armoured soldiers, which could be any enemy army ever. I thought Begnion troops had slightly orangy/red armour anyhoo?

EDIT: I'm basically just repeating what I'd heard elsewhere. I hadn't bothered to look into it myself, and Path of Radiance was too boring to leave any impression on my memory, so I couldn't remember anything about Begnion. So yeah, I guess I was wrong ;)

I will be shocked speechless if Roy is in the game. And I will be equally shocked if Marth is NOT in the game. I'm sure that they want to keep one of the characters from before, but Sakurai has made it clear that he won't hesitate to cut Melee characters if they're just clones or unnecessary for some other reason.

Which just means we have to decide which of the two would be cut. So let's take a look:

-Marth was the lord in two games. Roy was the lord of one.
-Marth was chosen for Melee because he's emblematic of the Fire Emblem games. He was the first lord, was in two of them, first blue-haired main character, etc. Roy was put in to advertise for the as-yet-unreleased FE6, a reason which no longer exists.
-Ike is a heavier swordsman; between Marth and Roy, Roy is the heavier, and thus most similar to Ike. Granted, we have no idea what Ike's moveset will be so this may or may not be applicable, but still.
-Although I'm not one to put much stock in tiers and such crap, Marth is generally considered a higher tier character than Roy, and in my personal experience, I've seen people use him far more often.

And I really don't expect to see both Marth and Roy return. Especially now that we know Ike has been thrown in the mix.

Analysis of the icons' filenames on the site seems to imply that the Ice Climbers are history. Basically, the icons appear to be listed in subsets (SSB64, new to Melee, and new to Brawl) in English alphabetical order by Japanese franchise name. Most of them, anyway; some use character names. I can't take credit for this list, but neither can the guy I kiped it from. I'm guessing the chain goes on a while longer, so oh well. It's a bit wonky, but here you go:

(Not bothering with vowel elongations here)
01: Dairanto Smash Brothers (Super Smash Bros.)
02: Donki Kongu (Donkey Kong)
03: Fokkusu (Star Fox)
04: Hoshi no Kabii (Kirby)
05: Kyaputen Farukon (Captain Falcon/F-Zero)
06: Metoroido (Metroid)
07: (Nothing so far. Nesu/Ness fits here)
08: Pokemon/Poketto Monsuta
09: Rinku (Link/Zelda)
10: Supa Mario (Super Mario)
11: Yosshi (Yoshi)
12: Faia Emuburemu (Fire Emblem)
13:
14:
15: Dobutsu no Mori (Animal Crossing)
16: Made in Wario (Wario Ware)
17:
18: Parutena no Kagami (Kid Icarus)

Note that Metal Gear would fit nicely between Wario and Icarus. And that there are three spots between the last of the 64 game and the first from Brawl (the icons added to Melee being Ice Climber, Fire Emblem, Game and Watch.) Ice Climber would be first of the Melee stuff (Aisu Kuraima) at #12, but look at the FE icon's properties. It's 12. Thing is, if English phrases properly romanized, FE would come first. Incidentally, that would also put Mother in its proper place after Metroid, rather than having to use Ness' name there. But with Falcon's name as it is, I don't know about that. Still, character names and titles might be treated differently, but it's kind of a stretch.

I don't take this as gospel, of course. It's worth a thought or two, though.

So I'm bitter :P

EDIT: Metal Gear would almost certainly go AFTER Icarus. It is a 3rd party, after all.

The foot-soldiers do I'm pretty sure, everything else ranges.

I will be shocked speechless if Roy is in the game. And I will be equally shocked if Marth is NOT in the game.

Personally, I see his chances dwindling right now. For one thing, they're probably going to cash in on the Goddess of Dawn hype by then, so that in itself doesn't look good for him. The other thing is how many swordsmen we may have. We already have four in Link, Ike, Pit and Meta-Knight (maybe five if you count Zero Suit Samus) but then we'll probably get a Young Link in some form, followed by a very probable TP Ganondorf addition which would most definitely use the Sage's Sword.

There's always a chance for him to get in, but with all of these swordsmen coming into the fray I'm not sure Sakurai would want so many of the same thing being used, even if their styles would be very different. That's just me, of course.

So I'm bitter :P

What else is new? ;)

Wow, today?s update was a pretty fucking awesome best-ever revelation update thingy. Honestly, from the looks of it, this could be the best thing since... Well, ever. Nintendo characters + Epic shit = Fangasm.

That intro looked pretty darn cool as well. Mario and Zelda are both badass, Peach and Kirby, not so much. Heheh... The other pre-rendered pictures definitely set up for more to come.

I wonder, will this game have voice acting? I guess not, but then again it would be kinda hard to tell a story with only silent characters... I suppose it'll work out in the end.

The 'aliens' look kinda weird, though. And Meta Knight, you traitorous bitch...! Well, maybe; he looks to have his hands full in that one screenshot...

Meta Knight has always played an anti-hero role, heck, he tried to take over Dreamland in one game. But it's possible that the Halberd was stolen from him by whatever power is creating those puppets. They look like they'll play the same role that the Fighting Polygons and Wire Frames played in the previous games.

And Peach IS badass. As badass as she can be, anyway. I'm so glad they stuck with her sexy Melee design rather than her more recent appearances in Mario games. They have just changed the dress a bit and obviously upped the detail.

Hell, I'm just so glad she's in it, she's a favourite character of mine.
