The Super Training stuff sounds like it'd be cool at first, but left in the dust quickly.

Playing minigames for EVs instead of mindless grinding sounds like a good idea, except you don't have to pay attention to mindless grinding.

Not so sure about minigames being the right route to take. After playing games like No More Heroes that integrate minigames into so much of the games as a means to progress and the DS remake of Final Fantasy IV that feature summon monsters that level up via minigame success, it would only feel like just another time waster. Slightly less malicious than just plain grinding but mind numbing at best.

The thing with all these new training bits, the exclusive mega evolution things, and so on. You just have to ask yourself: are you ever planning to play competitive?

If you're like the many players who will just play the game itself, maybe screw around with catching them all, then chances are these hidden stats and stuff don't matter. Because you don't need to do specialized training to beat the main game. That's just for competitive chumps.

See, this is why I loved Gen IV. The auto-level 100 online battles made me appreciate the world of competitive battling so much compared to never having used multiplayer before. It made it so you only needed to do a tiny grind to make your mons capable and that was easy to learn and do.

Grinding six of them to level 100? No thank you.

Dear god I hope that auto levelling comes back.

Hopefully, the other starters besides Blaziken will also get Mega Evolutions, even if they'll all be distribution events. Otherwise that'd be strangely uneven for Nintendo. On the other hand, I hope they don't go too far with these either, since I'd rather they do brand new Pokemon or actual new evolutions/pre-evolutions then fill the cart with this stuff.

Mega Kangaskhan confirmed.

I'm so giddy at any news that comes out right now! If there's a Mega Electrode that looks like a master ball I might SELFDESTRUCT

Two things.

First it looks like they're pulling a Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin and/or an FMA: Brotherhood with a new special/OVA/Not sure about Red and Green from the first gen. Hmmm.

Second's a bit more relevant to the games. They did a cute and neat little retrospective of the Pokemon games that has a CG Pikachu wandering around gigantic white versions of the various consoles and waving hello to all the starters of each gen, just cute stuff before he runs into a couple of 3DS' with X and Y playing....but the very end has what looks like an in-game blurry video of a Blaziken and Lucario fighting. Wii U Stadium/Colosseum/Battle Revolution game?

In the demo, Fennekin knows Psybeam. Good sign.

And Fairy-type moves are not very effective against Fire.

Is anyone getting this at launch? This is the first time... ever Pokemon has launched simultaneously so version exclusives won't be known on day 1 unless they tell us.

I'm interested to know which version day oners are getting so we can coordinate trading. I'm leaning towards Y.

I became very suddenly broke, so I may not be getting it all, considering I still need a 3DS.

If I don't get it launch day I'll get it that week. Probably going for X but I'm not sure yet.

And don't worry, within hours of it coming out someone will decompile and spoil it all.

Oh man, it's like being a Middle Schooler again deciding which version to get purely on boxart.

Considering I've picked up every Pokemon game since HeartGold on launch day, I see no reason why I would stop that trend now.  :P

Still not sure which version to preorder yet, I'm hoping they show off at least a few more version exclusives before launch.

So in this morning's Pokemon Nintendo Direct, we learned a few new things about X & Y.

-Nintendo will be launching an eshop program called Pokemon Bank, a digital service that will allow you to transfer and hold up to 3000 Pokemon from BW/BW2/XY for an annual fee.

-In addition to receiving a new starter from one your friends, you will also receive one of the original Kanto starters from the game's regional professor.

-Mega- Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise were shown.

I can't say I see the need for this.

It's astounding how much of a moneygrab the series has become.

I'm surprised they haven't broken in to the F2P mobile market because they would make a killing.

$5 a year for 3000 Pokemon spaces seems reasonable to me - AS LONG AS it facilitates trade evolution.

And, hold on, let me find the right words...

The bit where they talk about stuff nostalgically is fun...and damn a lot of those stuffed animals in the background are a lot ncier then the ones I see on sale in stores! I want that Blastoise. o_o

I can't say I'm surprised with the PokeBank thing - I'm thinking this is a lithmus test for what they can do in the future with a subscriptions ervice. $5.00 is reasonable for a year given the potential number of people who might use it. For those of us who have been transfering Pokemon from generation to generation when it was possible, it is kinda neat that we can take our, say, Blaziken from Emerald and/or Blastoise from Fire Red and put them into X/Y for purely sentimental reasons.

The Kanto trio getting Mega Evolutions is pretty much confirmation that all past starters probably have a Mega form, I imagine. Though using the wrist device to initiate Mega Form? That is unabashadly a Tokusatsu reference right there - I wouldn't be surprised if your trainer gets a special outfit during Mega Form, which may or may not be made of spandex and/or rubber.

I'm generally against subscription based payments, but $5 a year is nothing. I would gladly pay that for the convenience of not having to constantly transfer teams of Pokemon to a new game every single generation.

It should be free. It should be a courtesy to the gamer who's shelling out 40 bucks for a game that's all about obsessively collecting large amounts of monsters and moving them between other games they have paid around 40 bucks for.

How much data can a Pokemon really take up? It's basically a text string with x values checked off. They aren't going to need sick nasty gaming servers to store all those kilobytes.

So you pay your 5 dollars to move everyone to the PokeCloud and get everyone up to the current generation. Then what? You pay that yearly 5 bucks for 3-4 years just to park them until the next generation comes out. They're just wringing money out of their customers.

They may as well charge $0.99 to max out an EV/IV category.

It's a service for convenience really. It's also optional, so you don't have to buy if you don't want to use it.  :P

Just because it's optional doesn't mean it isn't questionable that they charge for it. The whole silly Dream World nonsense was free, after all.

The Dream World was free but it also sucked Sudowoodo's handballs.

I don't disagree with you though, it ought to be free. But maybe a subscription will provide a better class of service?

This is how I see it.

Periodically, I like to restart my Pokemon games and replay the game using different teams, however, there's always a number of Pokemon that I want to keep, usually current team members, legendaries, or other rare/event Pokemon. So in order to keep them, I have to trade them to another game. The only problem with that is that I have to go and catch a bunch of random low levels, borrow a friend's DS, and then sit there and trade every single one of them. The process is long, and rather annoying. So for me, the Pokebank eliminates this process and replaces it with something much more convenient.

So, while I agree it would be better if it were free, the fee is so inexpensive and solves the above problem, that I don't really mind chipping out a few bucks a year for it.

So Corocoro just leaked some new pokemanz today.

Middle starter evolutions

  • Hariboogu (ハリボーグ) — Chespin's evolution. A pure Grass-type that knows the move Mud Shot.
  • Teerunaa — Fennekin's evolution. A pure Fire-type that knows the move Psycho Cut.
  • Gerogashira — Froakie's evolution. A pure Water-type that knows Bounce.

Two Fossil Pokémon

  • Chigorasu. A Rock/Dragon T-Rex which has a new ability called 'Hard Jaw', which increases the attack power of biting moves and knows Crunch.
  • Amarusu. A Rock/Ice Diplodocus which has a new ability called Freeze Skin, which turns Normal type moves into Ice-type moves and raises their power. It knows Aurora Beam.

Two other new Pokémon

  • Torimian. A white dog that was seen in the recent Pokémon Direct and is a Normal-type. It has a new ability called Fur Coat which reduces Physical Damage. You can also customise its appearance.
  • Nyaonikusu. A psychic-type cat which has male and female appearances. Moves vary by gender. The male is more of a supporter while the female is more of an attacker; the female knows Extrasensory and the male knows Miracle Eye. It has Keen Eye or Infiltrator.

Fairy Type chart

  • Reportedly, Fairy is Super Effective on Fighting, Dark and Dragon and not effective on Fire, Poison or Steel. Is weak to Poison and Steel while resists Fighting, Dark and Bug. It is immune to Dragon.

Mega Evolutions - Mewtwo and Garchomp

  • Each game has a named Mewtwo exclusive to that version. Mega Mewtwo X is a Psychic/Fighting-type and has the ability Steadfast. Mega Mewtwo Y is exclusive to Pokémon Y, no further details yet. They use the items Mewtwonite X & Mewtwonite Y to Mega Evolve.
  • Mega Garchomp has the ability Sandforce

I think I like how that other Mega-Mewtwo looks better. And I gotta say, I'm not too surprised by Garchomp, but it's not as if he needed a power boost. Still not sure which of the starters to pick right now...

You know, with Ash in the anime currently having Charizard back on his team seemingly for good (well, 'till the end of the Black & White series anyway) it's safe to assume he'll probably stick around XY to get Mega mode, right?

Yeah, Mega Mewtwo X looks much better in my opinion. Majin Mega Mewtwo Y is still kind of strange to me...

I'm really excited for the Rock/Dragon fossil, since fossil pokemon are usually among my favorites. As for starters, I'm kind of torn between Fennekin and Froakie at the moment. I like Froakie's second form much more than Fennekin's, but I still see potential for the fire type. Chespin's second form has reached the "I don't even" level. :P

I'm hoping Chespin ends up an interesting dual type. With its armour-like second form, a Grass/Steel would be nice. If Froakie becomes Water/Fighting then with Charizard I've got my 3 out of 6.

Dear god don't let them all be mono-types. :(
