I'm becoming less and less excited about these temporary mega evolutions the more I see them. Not that I partake, but are they going to unbalance competetive battling?

Also, dual-type moves are happening!

Is the only-one-mega in-game rules, or a special tourney stipulation?

So far as I can tell it's a game mechanic, which goes a way to balancing things out. And as Vet said, the used held item slot means that Mega Pokemon trade off the ability to use the Choice Band, Leftovers, and what have you. So I imagine they're gonna be a game changer but not a game breaker.

Another mega evo (this one is worth it):

I foresee all the mega evolution items being event and download-at-Toys'r'us-only nonsense so nobody actually has any of them, like half of all legendaries.

Now, whether mega evos should be considered collectible? I'm not sure.

What is collecting if you collect everything?
The stated directive of the series?

So reviews are coming in and saying that this is possibly the best Pokemon game yet. Much adulation.
I tend to skip a lot of Pokemon games, since they take a long time to play and evolve so slowly. So far, I've played Blue and Diamond. X/Y may be where I jump back in.

If you ever feel like going back, Gold/Silver is in my opinion the best generation.

I would second this, although Black & White (2) are also really good.
Ah okay, I misinterpreted what you meant. I thought you were implying that this was a new problem.
But yeah, I agree, having event only Pokemon is pretty aggravating.

Not that I don't aspire to having every Pokemon sat in a box, and I'll get satisfaction from finally doing it, but since I've chased this from 1999 it would be a huge hole to fill.

You can still have the chase without making it physically impossible to complete the collection using just the game cartridge you purchased. That's basically the reason people hate on-disc DLC, or DLC in general for that matter.

I'm pretty sure the intention of Event Only Legendaries is the same reason they make X number of exclusive action figures or only x amount of some piece of jewelry - it's supposed to be special and maybe not everyone is supposed to be able to get it. While yes, the logistics of it gets wonky since it basically means anyone without access to a Gamestop or Toys R Us, or a wi-fi outlet is basically out of luck, I don't think it was meant to screw people out of completing their collection. Also remember, it's a Japanese game, and Japan is much mroe densely packed then a lot of other places, so when they made those first games and had Mew as a secret Pokemon (so secret that even Nintendo itself didn't know about it 'till the game's producers fessed up to it/someone decompiled the ROM) they didn't even think the game would ever leave that country. Starting to just use straight up access to wi-fi to distribute some Pokemon is in and of itself a ncie step to try and placate the rest of us who live elsewhere, though it's not exactly perfect. Nintendo changing the way Street Pass works is a good sign that they're working on the problem, but the sad truth is it's not entirely possible to get everyone since not everyone has wi-fi - hell, people forget that some areas flat out have no internet whatsoever, and it's not some backwoods third world country either. Getting rid of event only Legendaries right now would tick off as many people as those annoyed by them now, and why even bother? It's not perfect, but it is what it is. At the very least, they tend to do stuff like have the unobtainable Pokemon available other ways like connecting to a console game or downloading it from a Pokemon Ranger game after beating it - the logic being that if the player really feels that badly about collecting all the Pokemon they'd probably be interested in buying those side games anyway. Still leaves a slice of people they can't please, but they're clearly trying.
Anyway, really looking forward to it now. Yellow was my first game so it was fine and as a fan of the show at first I liked all the references and changes. Gold consumed my life completely and utterly and my little mind was blown back at how much they added. Fire Red was neat but kind of a retread, and Emerald.......well, the fact that I skipped the main games and just got the third version shows how cool I was to it, though Rayquaza is still my favorite legendary for liking sake. Pearl I fell in love with and actually played for the longest, and I still like some of the stuff in there the best out of all the games. Heart Gold was a nice remake, but even then it felt a little off having my two favorites of the series at the time smashed together. I have to admit, White was fine but I was really kind of "meh" to, while White 2 seemed like the game the prequal should have been and had better balancing and presented the improvements better then White. With all the gushing over X/Y I'm piqued.

Never played that one, I felt kinda burnt after White. I didn't like how that game turned out by the end of the story, not really a hell of a lot to do or explore.

And kinda nice it doesn't look like any traditional dragon - looks a little like a Mothra or rather, Battra larva.

The original BW had practically no post-game, I'll agree, but I really liked the story mode itself. BW2 also had a really good story mode, as well as a number of post-game things to do. The World Tournament is one of my favorite game features ever.

Tyranitar is Rock/Dark. So not even a little right!... ground dragon? Isn't Tyranitaur that type?

As for it not resembling a Z, it's a snake. Rotate the camera for a side-on view and it's shaped like a Z!
Popular opinion is that it's supposed to be Jormungandr. Everyone's hoping for at least a hidden Fenrir legendary. My Norse knowledge is quite poor, do Xerneas and Yveltal resemble anything Norse?

Hm...well, Xerneas could represent the four stags that eat Yggdrasil's foliage. Yveltal...maybe the eagle perched on Yggdrasil, the hawk perched between its eyes (yes) or one of Odin's pet ravens. I'm gonna say that the new Z Pokemon makes me think of Níðhöggr more than Jormungandr.

I just found out that Steel type has been nerfed. Or rather, rebalanced in a fairly zero-sum fashion.
http://bulbapedia.bu....net/wiki/Steel
Steel lost its resistance to Dark and Ghost, and picked up a strength and resistance to Fairy.
This kind of annoys me, if only because I beat Diamond with an all-Steel team. I wasn't planning to attempt to repeat the strategy, but still. They used to be the tankiest tanks that ever tanked, and now they're slightly less tanky.

Eh, it's a two for two deal. And it's nice to make Steel moves slightly less meaningless. Especially given the only other type super effective against Fairy is Poison type. Though if Steel had just been super effective against dragons at the start, we wouldn't need a fairy type!
