Hello. I'm a regular poster from ZU.

I understand that you're probably busy at the moment, but could you please translate some things for me?

Over on ZU, a member named Crab Helmet is claiming that the credits of ALttP (Master Sword Sleeps Forever etc.) are told from Link's point of view and not said by a narrator of some sort. Could you guys please translate the ALttP credits and see if Crab Helmet's statements are true?

Also, as a personal request, could you please translate the Puppet Ganon figurine description from The Wind Waker?

Finally, could you please translate the entire Door of Time scenario, ranging from the encounter at the drawbridge to Ganondorf's "thanks kid" speech? I seem to recall Rauru's words already being translated, but if they weren't then could you please translate them as well? Thanks guys.

Well, as for the ALttP credits stuff, they were in English in the Japanese version, so this Crab Helmet guy is just crazy.

For the other things, I should be able to get those done either later today or tomorrow.

He said that he has a friend who told him that. I thought it was awkward too, so that's why I came here. I'll post exactly what he said. Hold on.

Okay, here's the entire thread from ZU just in case it will help or you want to read it:

http://www.zeldauniv...ne-tablets.html

The Crab Helmet stuff starts on the second page.

On to Crab Helmet's stuff:

Ah, damn missed that.

What's he changed them from them? Is the Japanese in 2nd person or 1st person?

Do we have anybody who can read Japanese well here?

EDIT: Never mind, got a friend to do it, and my point stands. It is Link narrating, but he is talking to you (as in the player).

That's the quote in question, though I think that browsing through the whole thread will help you understand everything.

Thanks jacensolo06.

So you're just asking about the general narration throughout the game?

Japanese verbs aren't conjugated into 1st or 2nd person and oftentimes the subject is omitted if it can be implied. The cases of "You got whatever!" could be translated as that or as "I got whatever!". There's really no way to tell aside from context. However, it does seem to talk to someone (e.g. "Let's try it out") so I would say it's either the narrator talking to Link or Link talking to the player.

In short, there's no reason to think it is Link talking during those credits. In fact it can't be Link because it refers to "your uncle" as opposed to "my uncle".

It might extend to that, but I was generally referring to the stuff in the ending.

That's what I and a guy named SevenYears said to those guys. We (the players) are supposed to be Link in that game anyway. Thanks again jacensolo06.

Puppet Ganon
Habitat: Ganon's Castle
Effective Weapon: Light Arrows
This is a gigantic marionette created by Ganon himself. It transforms into three different shapes, but all are vulnerable to rays of light. Rather than shooting randomly at it, try to deduce when it can be easily targeted and then take advantage of your chance.

Hm, so it said Ganondorf's servant. I wanted to know this since I'm of the opinion that Puppet Ganon was Ganondorf himself screwing around with Link. If you want to hear everything just PM me, but I just want to ask; in your opinion, are the figurine quotes really reliable or consistent?

Thanks for translating that.

Ganondorf's manner of speaking seems to be more blunt in the Japanese version, which arguably helps make him look more like a lowly thief. That's interesting. It doesn't shed much light on whether Ganondorf knew Link was gathering the keys before the encounter or just randomly had that thought after riding away though. Thanks for translating that.

It's interesting that Rauru seems to have single-handedly built the Temple of Time and connected it to the Sacred Realm. Thank you jacensolo06.

A thought just came to me now regarding Ganondorf's titles. I take it that the translators have already tackled Ganondorf's boss titles (the ones that appear just before a fight begins) but you may not have examined Navi's quote regarding him. In Ocarina of Time, when Ganondorf is stunned by a Light Arrow and targeted, Navi will call him "Ganondorf the Evil King". If it won't bother you, could you please check and see if it says anything special in the Japanese version or if it just says maou? I'd appreciate it.

Once again, it's very kind of you to do this for the community.

Really, the Japanese in general is more blunt than the English. Although, his speech in this game definitely seems fairly crude compared to his more refined speech in WW.

As it says elsewhere in OoT the ancient sages built the ToT (Even in the Japanese, I just checked), it's obvious that Rauru didn't single-handedly do it. I think NoA added the reference to the ancient sages in here because in English what he says seems to imply that he alone did it.

Alright. The "connected" part of it does seem pretty interesting though.

So they "connected a path" to the Sacred Realm, uh? Interesting indeed. I always imagined the path to have been there already and that the purpose of the temple was to prevent anyone unworthy from going through it.

I agree; I wonder what we can say for other NoA revisions that aren't quite right but aren't necessarily wrong. Maybe we should have someone try to look at what other changes, if any, could potentially have a valid purpose in explaining the story to Western audiences.

Also, I'm personally interested in what it means by "connected," because whether or not the Sacred Realm was actually connected to Hyrule in that way from the beginning has sort of cropped up in debate recently.

He probably means "Connected" as in erected a portal, genius. I highly doubt Rauru reached out to an unrelated plane of existence and somehow tethered it to Hyrule for no real reason.

Actually, the idea that Rauru could create a portal to the sacred realm is pretty interesting. I'd always assumed the entrance to the sacred realm had always been in existance, but if they can be created that goes some way toward explaining the presence of the warp tiles in Link to the Past.

Well, the way I see it, it could mean "erected an original portal" or "connected an already-existing gateway." That's quite a big difference.

Also, we don't know where Rauru comes from. He could have been a denizen of the Sacred Realm originally for all we know. ALttP does mention "previous residents" (probably in reference to the gods, but it's never explored).

Was this translated?

Say... Link! You're alive and well!
Tell me, did you find anything of interest at the Arbiter's Grounds in the
desert?
The sages... Those sages once served the royal family, actually. They were
appointed as tutors to the young Princess Zelda.
It was from them that I first heard tales of the accursed mirror in the
Arbiter's Grounds.

I tried to find it in here but this is a huge thread.

I have a question. It's a bit off topic. But I thought I should ask it here.

I'm wondering where I should go to ask for permission to link the translations shown here to another site. I thought I'd ask here since this is the translations thread.

Also, we don't know where Rauru comes from. He could have been a denizen of the Sacred Realm originally for all we know. ALttP does mention "previous residents" (probably in reference to the gods, but it's never explored).

knowing how you warp quotes to fit your ideas, can you give context? What's the quote about previous residents? Because you're probably misinterpreting it to mean something it doesn't.

Was this translated?

I think it was. The versions pretty much match up, so don't worry too much.

I wouldn't see why not, as long as credit is given and such. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't mind MY contributions being cited.

I'm reflecting on the translator's notes actually, which is where the suggestion originated.

http://www.zeldalege...ame_quotes.html

To restore this world to the sacred land it originally was, there's probably no way except for a person who is worthy to overthrow that man and claim the "Golden Power" to take it...

I plan on waiting in this form until that happens.

But, the previous residents sure left a mischievous thing behind. The "Golden Power"...

the "Triforce"...

先住の民 (senjuu no tami), translated as "the people/nation that came/dwelt before," is kind of ambiguous in this context. It might refer to the gods themselves, or it might refer to the Hylian nation from ancient times. The NOA translation doesn't say who it was who left the Triforce behind, so we're led to believe that it was the gods. But he could be referring to the Hylians, who allegedly did not hide the Triforce well enough.

*shrug* It's probably the gods either way.

Oh, that line. Yea, I assumed it was the Gods. At best, it's the people who tried to get to it and failed.

To give some credence to the idea that it went back to the Sacred Realm in some unseen event after OoT, it may have been put back there by previous owners as well, no?

I'm surprised this hasn't been translated yet (and if it has, it's not in the Collected Translations thread yet):

Could someone translate the Deku Tree Sprout's description of the fierce wars. Specifically, the line that says the king of Hyrule unified the country.

Dammit, we missed one in TWW. I forgot because it's not actually part of the dialogue. Can you please translate this?

You got the Hero's Shield!

This is the legendary shield said to
have been used by the hero himself!

I have a feeling it's going to imply the same thing in Japanese, and I have a feeling "said to" really means it's not actually true, just something that got told to someone at some point down the line and that they don't really know about.

If it won't be a bother, could you please translate the Great Deku Tree's Triforce speech and everything from Zelda's first encounter with Link (up until Impa leaves at the drawbridge) from OoT?

Lex and Impossible: I'll have those done sometime today.

Average Gamer: As it's quite a bit, I'll translate all that tomorrow.

Edit: Finished Lex and Impossible's requests.

Shield quote:

You got the Hero's Shield! This legendary shield is said to have been used by the hero.

You got the Hero's Shield! This is the legendary shield said to have been used by the hero himself!

Note: Once again, the lack of articles in Japanese means that it's either referring to the hero from the legend or just any hero. Also, the "is said to" means that that's what people say, but it's not necessarily true.

Deku Tree Sprout:

I'm the Deku Tree's child! Because you and Saria removed the Forest Temple's curse, I was able to be born. Thank you very much.

Hi there! I'm the Deku Tree sprout! Because you and Saria broke the curse on the Forest Temple, I can grow and flourish! Thanks a lot!

Have you met your old friends? None of them recognized you because you had grown up.

Hey, have you seen your old friends? None of them recognized you with your grown-up body, did they?

The Kokiri are a race that never grows up... Even after seven years, they are still children.

That's because the Kokiri never grow up! Even after seven years, they're still kids!

So, do you want to know why you grew up?

You must be wondering why only you have grown up!

I don't know if you've realized it or not, but you're not Kokiri... You are actually Hylian!

Well, as you might have already guessed, you are not a Kokiri! You are actually a Hylian!

Telling you this secret one day was my duty.

I am happy to finally reveal this secret to you!

Before the King of Hyrule had unified this country... there was a violent war.

Some time ago, before the King of Hyrule unified this country, there was a fierce war in our world.

One day, a Hylian mother and baby fled to the forbidden forest in order to escape that war.

One day, to escape from the fires of the war, a Hylian mother and her baby boy entered this forbidden forest.

The mother who had suffered a severe wound entrusted her child to the spirit of the forest, the Deku Tree.

The mother was gravely injured... Her only choice was to entrust the child to the Deku Tree, the guardian spirit of the forest.

When the Deku Tree saw that child, he felt a fate that would affect the future of the world and decided to take him in.

The Deku Tree could sense that this was a child of destiny, whose fate would affect the entire world, so he took him into the forest.

After the mother passed away, the baby was raised as a Kokiri. At last the day of fate has arrived!

After the mother passed away, the baby was raised as a Kokiri. And now, finally, the day of destiny has come!

You are a Hylain child... You were fated to leave this Kokiri Forest eventually...

You are a Hylian, and were always bound to leave this forest.

And... now that you know of your fate, there is something you must do. That's right... Your mission is to save Hyrule!

And now... You have learned your own destiny... So you know what you must do... That's right... You must save the land of Hyrule!

Now, Link, remove the curse from all of the temples and return peace to Hyrule!!

Now, Link, break the curses on all of the Temples, and return peace to Hyrule!!

Okay, I've finished the Deku Tree's speech:

よくやってくれた、ありがとう リンク…
Well done. Thank you, Link…

Well done, Link...

You have definitely shown me your courage… You were the correct boy to entrust my wish to…

Thou hast verily demonstrated thy courage... I knew that thou wouldst be able to carry out my wishes...

Well then, I would like to tell you another of my wishes… Will you listen…?

Now, I have yet more to tell ye, wouldst thou listen...

Well then… Listen carefully… The one who put the curse on me was a wicked man of the desert people…

Now...listen carefully... A wicked man of the desert cast this dreadful curse upon me...

He is using his evil magical powers in order to search for the Sacred Land that is said to be somewhere in Hyrule… This is because… the legendary sacred triangles in which the power of the gods is hidden, the Triforce, is in the Sacred Land…

This evil man ceaselessly uses his vile, sorcerous powers in his search for the Sacred Realm that is connected to Hyrule... For it is in that Sacred Realm that one will find the divine relic, the Triforce, which contains the essence of the gods...

When there was no reason in the world and life did not yet have form.

Before time began, before spirits and life existed...

Three great golden goddesses descended to the land of chaos that was Hyrule.

Three golden goddesses descended upon the chaos that was Hyrule...

Their names were Din, the goddess of power…

Din, the goddess of power...

Nayru, the goddess of wisdom…

Nayru, the goddess of wisdom...

And Farore, the goddess of courage.

Farore, the goddess of courage...

Din…

Din…

With her strong arms of flame, she cultivated the land and created the red earth.

With her strong flaming arms, she cultivated the land and created the red earth.

Nayru…

Nayru…

She poured her intelligence into the earth and gave laws to the world.

Poured her wisdom onto the earth and gave the spirit of law to the world.

Farore…

Farore…

Because of her abundant heart, all life that would follow the laws was created.

With her rich soul, produced all life forms who would uphold the law.

With their mission completed, the three great gods left to go to that country.

The three great goddesses, their labors completed, departed for the heavens.

Golden sacred triangles were left behind in the land from which the gods left.

And golden sacred triangles remained at the point where the goddesses left the world.

After that, those sacred triangles became the cornerstone for the world’s reason.

Since then, the sacred triangles have become the basis of our world's providence.

And that land became known as the Sacred Land.

And, the resting place of the triangles has become the Sacred Realm.

We can not let that wicked man of the desert people touch the Triforce!

Thou must never allow the desert man in black armor to lay his hands on the sacred Triforce...

We can not let someone with an evil heart such as him go to the Sacred Land!

Thou must never suffer that man, with his evil heart, to enter the Sacred Realm of legend...

He put a curse of death on me that took away my powers…

That evil man who cast the death curse upon me and sapped my power...

Before long the curse will eat into my life as well…

Because of that curse, my end is nigh...

You did a splendid job of removing the curse, but my life can not be returned to me…

Though your valiant efforts to break the curse were successful, I was doomed before you started...

Death will come to me soon… But… do not mourn for me…

Yes, I will pass away soon... But do not grieve for me...

For I have been able to inform you of these things…

I have been able to tell you of these important matters...

This is the last hope Hyrule has left…

This is Hyrule's final hope...

Link… Go to Hyrule Castle…

Link... Go now to Hyrule Castle...

The princess chosen by the gods should be there…

There, thou will surely meet the Princess of Destiny...

Take this stone… This stone that that man wanted so much that he put this curse on me…

Take this stone with you. The stone that man wanted so much, that he cast the curse on me...

I’m counting on you, Link… I believe in your courage…

The future depends upon thee, Link... Thou art courageous...

Navi the fairy… Help Link and carry out my will… Good… Navi… Fare…well…

Navi the fairy... Help Link to carry out my will... I entreat ye... Navi... Good...bye...

Note: When he says that the goddesses went to "ano kuni"/"that country", he's probably referring to the heavens. In Japanese "ano yo"/"that world" is used to refer to the the realm of the dead, so I'm assuming that "ano kuni" is something similar.

I'll finish the meeting with Zelda tomorrow.

Can you explain the part that talks about the "world's reason"? I'm not sure how it relates to the metaphysics of it all, apparently.

They?re mission was to throw the reasons of earth and space-time out of order, collect the ?grief?, ?ruin?, and ?despair? born in the people from this, and give it to Twinrova.
Their mission was to send the Essences of Nature and Time into chaos, they were to hand to Twinrova the sorrow, depair and destruction of the people.

The power of earth of the eight reasons will surely become your power!
Surely the powers of the eight essences will aid you!

Oh, hero who knows the reasons of ?Earth? and ?Space-Time?. Do you remember me? I?m Nayru, the Shrine Maiden of Time.
Oh, hero of the essences, do you remember Nayru, Oracle of Ages?

-The Essences are known as "kotowari" in Japanese. It translates to "reason" and is (as MikePetersSucks informed me) the Buddhist sense of a spiritual conviction that helps govern the world.

See page 33 of this thread for more details, or contact MikePetersSucks.

Good find jacensolo06. Thank you for translating that.

You'll need to clarify with MPS. I provided the quotes because I thought that they were relevant.
