Sod that, when do you think part two of your interview will be availible?
Good point. However, by making a character say something ridiculous, the creators have indirectly told us that it is false. Wouldn’t you agree?
Quite so, but this is where we hit something of a slippery slope.
If we can infer that a character is fallible from our perception of their statement as being ludicrous, then how far does that same logic extend?
If we consider a game to indirectly contradict a character, is that character incorrect, or do they override the game which would otherwise contradict them?
Is it better to infer the creator's intentions from dialogue, or from events? Is it possible to infer their intentions from what makes sense to each of us?
The idea that a character's dialogue is automatically canon until it is directly and explicitly contradicted must exist as an absolute to avoid the slippery slope scenario, otherwise everything that is said can be called into question based on varying interperetations of the creator's intentions.
So while the "Eye of Truth" is the Lens of Truth, it is also a power that can be learned by training. Going on by that, the Lens of Truth is simply a tool made in order to allow people to see the truth without this training.
The quote doesn't actually say that a person can achieve the same effects as the Lens of Truth.
The Eye of Truth is still only used to refer to the Lens of Truth.
It would have been possible if not for the fact that the King says that Link is the Hero he had been looking for.
Is this that "The Hero" business again, or a different dialogue?
What? Nothing in TWW indicates that he had to "prove himself worthy" of the ToC. The ToC simply entered his body the first time he used it.
Well done, Link. You must show
the Triforce piece you have assembled to
the gods.
(Link shows it, Triforce of Courage symbol appears on his hand)
Oh! What is this? There, on your hand--the
Triforce piece now dwells within you!...
...You have controlled the wind and crossed
the seas, and here, near the end of your
quest, the power of the gods has been
bestowed upon you...
This sounds to me like he needed the God's approval. To "Bestow" something is a verb, it has to be done. The ToC was completely assembled upon obtaining the final shard, so had he not required the Gods to bestow it upon him, he should logically have been able to use it immediately.
If OoT Link was the one destined to have the ToC, why does it enter TWW Link's body?
Because he obtained it. It would seem to be the same reason that LoZ Link was able to make use fo the ToW to enter Ganon's dungeon, he assembled it and made it his.
