I think there's gonna be some trouble in the streets of Durban tonight...

He probably pulled the red out by accident and then didn't want to back down.

I'm a good sport. I hope China does well.
Thanks; unfortunately, they didn't make it in, so I'll be cheering primarily for a different country.

New Zealand 1 - 1 Slovakia
Ivory Coast 0 - 0 Portugal
Brazil 2 - 1 North Korea.
Nothing between Portugal and Ivory Coast is a bad result for Calatia. Brazil failing to whoop the North Koreans, bad for Koridai. Only two more matches left in the 1st round so if you're gonna bet some posts they'll have to be in before 7.30 pm my time tomorrow.

Epic shit. Such a great effort from the Aussie's though. Ghana were the ones that looked like they had ten men by the end of it.
Have to say I disagree with you though Laz. Yes it was a harsh call but it was different from other handballs because even if it wasn't intentional, it still directly stopped a goal from being scored. Giving Ghana just a penalty kick (a "chance" to score) is not a fair trade off. So in the end, I don't begrudge the ref... just more pissed about how fucking bad our luck has been this World Cup.
Now we just need to beat Serbia 5 - nil!
Or Ghana somehow defeat Germany...

Yes you do. It's the rules. Just like if the keeper accidentally handles the ball outside his area, he's off. No debate.Yeah but you don't give them a numbers advantage because their goal was blocked by someone other than the keeper.
Kewell leaned his shoulder towards the ball, definite reflex and not a conscious effort at cheating, but he leaned in and the ball hit his arm. Red. Goodbye. No debate. Sorry.
Welcome to football.

I've watched football and these refs are being heavy-handed across the board on rules that FIFA itself is considering changing because the triple penalty illegality rule is an overkill response and a contradiction to players' legal objectives.
Penalty kick + withdrawal + suspension is not how you respond to accidental illegal moves whilst trying to defend. Yeah, he blocked an obvious shot but stopping an opponent from scoring is the key objective of any player in a defensive position. The refs have already handed out 4 or 5 red cards, a few for ball-to-hand (like Kewell) and then they give out two yellow cards for hand-to-ball. It's a joke.
I know no amount of challenging will have it reversed and FIFA is standing behind its referees but it would be nice if they at least lifted the match suspension. Or at least lift one of them, like they did Cahill, just in case we do make it to the 16s.
Plus, the ref was Italian.

I cannot believe North Korea lost to Portugal 7-nil.
The fact that North Korea placed Chinese actors dressed up as north Korean people for support seemed unbelievable to me too at first.
Still, the current results show that picking against the higher qualified teams improves your chances of winning most of the bets. France, Germany and Italia all had bizarre results... Well, France could have been expected seeing their poor qualfication, requiring hand ball to get them there in the first place.

Did you know, you can fit two regulation size football pitches inside one regulation size football pitch? With plenty of space to spare, too!

Personally, I'm not too surprised by this. China is one of North Korea's only allies, so it's reasonable that they would have requested some helpers.
