Good game! In that second match against you as soon as Cloyster hit the field I was thinking "Here comes the Rapid Spin..." but didn't have any way of stopping it; hence the new Gengar. And Ninjask manages to be faster than scarfed Abomasnow, to my relief...

Yay! I shall polish it every day to maintain four sparkly bits.

Maybe I'll type up the match

You can remember it? Because I never can! Oh, unless you can use the battle recorder thingy in Platinum. I still don't really know how that thing works.

It records the match, and you can play it back! Useful. Do you mind if I write it up, as it gives away your team a bit?

And thanks for the Lapras!

Firstly, my team:

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Now, having been beaten quite soundly with my Elite Four defeaters, I decided to train up some good pokémon; mostly ones I liked the looks of, I guess. All of these have had EV training except Gyarados, who presumably has the EVs you get from beating up a lot of Bidoof and Starly early in the game. (HP and Speed...)

Having played Vet twice before he was kind enough to show me his team, so I'm playing at a pretty huge advantage. Anyway! On to the match.

Veteran sent out RACHEL! Go! Hippowdon!

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Weavile is exerting its pressure, and Hippowdon kicks up a sand storm.

And we've got Weavile versus Hippowdon, just like last time. Now, last time he switched out straight away, presumably to keep his Focus Sash intact. Will he this time? If he does, I can get my Stealth Rock up straight away; so that's the move I go for.

Weavile used Fake Out! Hippowdon flinched!

Hippowdon cures itself with its Leftovers. Weavile is buffeted by the Sandstorm.

And I breathe a sigh of relief as the Focus Sash is blown away with the sand. Looks like Weavile's in for the long haul this time; so, he'll probably Taunt to stop my rocks. No point wasting a turn, so instead I'll attack!

Weavile used Taunt! Hippowdon fell for the Taunt! Hippowdon used Earthquake!

And Weavile's health plummets down to the red, whilst Hippowdon is back to full thanks to her Leftovers. Looks like one or two turns of the sandstorm will finish Weavile off. I go for Earthquake again to make sure of it...

Weavile used Ice Punch! It's Super Effective! Hippowdon used Earthquake! Weavile fainted!

Hippowdon drops to 59%, and recovers up to 66% with Leftovers.

And first blood goes to me. I immediately start second guessing myself here; why didn't I use Slack Off? I could have recovered all that Ice Punch damage, and hopefully Weavile would still have died to the sandstorm. Still, it might not have died; it's a little hard to tell. Oh well.

Veteran sent out CHANDLER!

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

And the weather war begins, as we swing from a sandstorm to a snowstorm.

Now, I know his Abomasnow is scarfed, and after that Ice Punch I'm doubtful Hippowdon can stand up to a Blizzard. So I switch to someone I know can; my trusty Infernape.

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Showsni sent out Infernape! Abomasnow used Blizzard!

After the hail damage, Infernape drops to 58%. Abomasnow is faster than me, but I can take another Blizzard hit without dying and get in my Flamethrower, which is 4X effective. And I have a Fire plate. And lots of Sp. Att EV. So, Flamethrower it is!

Veteran sent out PHOEBE!

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

So, Veteran obviously predicts my move and sends out a Pokémon whos water type makes up for its ice type and is neutral to fire. Still, the fire does nearly half damage, but it heals back up a bit with ice body and leftovers whilst Infernape gets buffeted by hail to 52%.

Now, knowing his moves as I do I can predict two things that might happen. He'll either Protect himself, or go for Surf and the kill. I'm pretty sure I outspeed him; so I can do two things as well! If he's going to Protect, I should Nasty Plot then kill him with Grass Knot next turn and sweep up. If he's going to Surf, I should Grass Knot now to get some damage in before the wave hits. What to do... I decide to go for the quick Grass Knot option.

Walrein used Protect! Walrein protected itself!

Walrein recovers health with Leftovers and Ice Body, whilst Infernape is buffeted to 46%.

Dang. If I'd gone the other way my Nasty Plotted Infernape could have really helped. Thinking about it, he was more likely yo go for Protect for additional healing and hail damage... Oh well. Grass Knot again, I guess?

Infernape used Grass Knot! It's Super Effective! Walrein used Surf! It's Super Effective!

Walrein's obviously been dieting against just such an occurence, as the Grass Knot only takes it into the red whilst my poor fire monkey is out for the count. And Walrein heals back up to orange. I really need to stop that, so...

Showsni sent out Hippowdon! Hippowdon whipped up a sandstorm.

Now the weather is in my favour! And Hippowdon obviously can't stay in here or she'll be surfed away. Who can resist surf?

Showsni sent out Gyarados! Walrein used Surf! It's not very effective.

So, Posted Image vs. Posted Image

That surf knocked Gyarados down to 83%, and my own sandstorm turns against me and knock me to 77%, whilst Walrein cures its sandstorm damage with Leftovers. Well, it resists all my moves except Hyper Beam, and I don't want to waste a turn, so I'll go with the strongest I have!

Veteran sent out Abomasnow! Gyarados used Hydro Pump! It's not very effective.

Abomasnow's snow warning lets us know that the weather is changing again. I blame global warming. Gyarados is buffeted by hail, and his Hydro Pump did about a quarter damage, if that.

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

What to do now? Well, Gyarados can probably take at least one hit from whatever Abomasnow chooses, so I'll leave her in for now. The best move against this icy plant is probably my Ice Fang... At least it isn't resisted.

Abomasnow used Wood Hammer! Gyarados used Ice Fang!

And both our dual types make us weak and strong against the element that hits us... Deep. But his move was probably slightly more powerful. Gyarados drops to 19% after hail, and Abomasnow is sitting in the orange with his recoil damage. Well, Gyarados won't stand for more of this. Who can I switch to? Something that resists the locked in grass move? Infernape's dead, so... Lucario?

Veteran sent out JOEY! Showsni sent out Lucario!

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Hail continues to fall!

Well, a double switch. What to do now? Lucario's faster than Cloyster, and Close Combat is a Life Orbed STABbed Super Effective...

Veteran sent out MONICA! Lucario used Close Combat! It doesn't affect Froslass.

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Oh, right, his ghost. Nice prediction there. Lucario takes more hail damage. Well, she'll probably use Thunder Wave, and I don't want Lucario paralysed. So, I'll switch in the Pokémon that's pretty much dead already!

Showsni sent out Gyarados! Froslass used Thunder Wave! Gyarados is paralysed!

And the hail buffets Gyarados down to 7%. Well, do all you can before you die!

Veteran sent out JOEY! Gyarados used Hydro Pump! Gyarados' attack missed.

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Should have gone with Surf. The hail takes me down to 1%. Well, I'm not going to get another chance, so...

Cloyster used Toxic Spikes! Gyarados used Hyper Beam!

Take that, Cloyster! Hyper Beam does almost half damage to it, then the Atrocious Pokémon keels over and dies to a bit of weather. Sure.

Showsni sent out Gengar!

I'll use my electric move! Take that, Cloyster!

Veteran sent out ROSS! Gengar used Thunderbolt! It doesn't affect Mamoswine.

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Some more nice prediction there. And I'm kicking myself; I know he runs Mamoswine, why didn't I use the other super effective move Gengar knows? The one that does more damage and hits Mamoswines? Well, there's the risk of that Froslass coming back, but I'll chance it.

Mamoswine uses Ice Shard! Gengar drops to 28%. Gengar uses Focus Blast! Mamoswine is dead.

Ha! That sure did the trick! It's a one hit wonder, as the Pokémon Stadium announcer would say! And with Mamoswine out of the way, I don't need to fear his Stealth Rock any more! The hail buffets Gengar around a bit. Can't she go incorporeal or something? I'm a little annoyed that I sent Gengar out this early; she's my secret Drumpf card for later on, so I can't let her die.

Veteran sends out JOEY!

And in the interests of not letting her die, it's time to switch. I suspect an Ice Shard, and who do I have who can resist them?

Showsni sends out Lucario! Cloyster uses Ice Shard! That was weak.

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Then some hail. Lucario's down to 70% by now. Well, Vet could keep Cloyster in but he wouldn't last long. So I'm guessing he'll try his ghost trick again. And, as such...

Veteran sent out MONICA! Lucario used Swords Dance. Lucario's Attack went way up!

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Right, I only have one attack that can hit her, so I might as well use it.

Froslass used Substitute! Lucario used Ice Punch! Lucario's attack missed.

Huh. I guess she has the snow equivalent of Sand Veil? How annoying. Lucario gets buffeted by the hail down to 58%, whilst Froslass sits behind her toy Rhydon doll and nibbles a half eaten apple. I could switch pokémon, I guess, but I want to break that substitute!

Froslass used Confuse Ray! Lucario used Ice Punch! The substitute faded.

That's what I think of your Rhydon doll! Wait, did you just confuse me? Yeah, I guess I'll switch out. Down to 52% by now.

Showsni sent out Gengar! Froslass used Substitute. Gengar is buffeted by the hail! Down to 16%.

Wait, why on earth did I send in Gengar? I guess Shadow Ball is super effective, but she's not getting through that substitute. And like I say, I have plans for her later. Come back, Gengar!

Showsni sent out Hippowdon! Hippowdon was poisoned. Hippowdon's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm! Froslass used Confuse Ray. Hippowdon became confused!

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Right, Cloyster's Toxic Spikes are still here. If Gengar had had an iron ball... No, that's silly. So, I have a confused poisoned hippo, but at least the weather's back on my side!

The sandstorm buffets Froslass, but she ignores it with her Leftovers. Hippowdon has Leftovers too, but they're not curing her poison. And this is where an epic showdown begins! Or, an epic stalemate, anyway. First, I want to get my Stealth Rock up.

Froslass used Spikes! Hippowdon hurt itself in its confusion.

Well, that's okay. I've got a lot of HP and Defence. Try again!

Froslass used Spikes! Hippowdon hurt itself in its confusion.

Hippowdon is on 47%. It beats itself up down to 41%. Leftovers take it up to 47%, then poison drops it to 34%. Okay, change of plan. I can't die here. Hippo, heal thyself!

Froslass used Spikes! Hippowdon is confused... Hippowdon used Slack Off!

Good hippo. Up to 84%! It hasn't escaped my notice that there are now three layers of spikes. Gengar can levitate and Ninjask can fly, so it's only Lucario and Hippowdon who are going to fell the pain; that's if I switch her out, anyway. So, now we have health, Stealth Rocks!

Froslass used Confuse Ray! But Hippowdon is already confused. Hippowdon snapped out of confusion! Hippowdon used Stealth Rock!

Hee hee. You can't confuse me, I'm confused! Oh wait, no I'm not. Okay, let's get to breaking that substitute. Earthquake!

Froslass used Confuse Ray! Hippowdon hurt itself in its confusion.

Confused and poisoned again. After the poison damage, Hippowdon's down to 59%. Earthquake!

Veteran sent out JOEY! Pointed rocks drove into Cloyster. (Ouch.) Hippowdon snapped out of confusion! Hippowdon used Eathquake! (Very ouch). The sandstorm rages! Cloyster is buffeted by the sandstorm! Cloyster dives into the red healthwise, and its berry activated. Useful. But aha! I know why Cloyster is here! It's time to put my secret plan into action!

Showsni sent out Gengar! Cloyster used Rapid Spin. It doesn't affect Gengar...

Or, of course, her Stealth Rocks.

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Ha ha! My plan worked like a charm! Okay, it's a pretty obvious manouevre, but still. The sandstorm is still swirling around, and Cloyster has next to no health left.

Cloyster used Ice Shard! Gengar dies.
Cloyster is buffeted by the sandstorm! Cloyster dies.

Right, my Stealth Rock is up to stay! And in the interests of avoiding the spikes all over the floor, I'll send in my as of yet unused Baton Passer.

Showsni sent out Ninjask! Veteran sent out CHANDLER!

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

And once again the weather shifts to hail. But now the Stealth Rocks show they mean business; Abomasnow is on a practically invisible amount of health after they dig in.

Ninjask used Substitute! Abomasnow used Blizzard! The substitute faded. Ninjask is buffeted by hail! Ninjask's speed boost raises its speed! Ninjask restores its health with its Leftovers.

Right, well, that answers the question of whether Ninjask is faster than a scarfed Abomasnow. I don't know why I didn't go for the kill straight off...

Ninjask used X-Scissor! It's super effective! (It is? I'm still a bit shaky on some type matchups... Yeah, I guess bugs are good against grass.) Abomasnow fainted.

Hail, leftovers and speed boosts, oh my!

Veteran sent out MONICA! The stealth rock digs in and leaves her in the orange.

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

I decide to go for a quick kill.

Ninjask used X-Scissor! Ninjask's attack missed. Curses! Froslass used Confuse Ray! Ninjask became confused! Curses again!

Froslass restores herself a bit with her leftovers. Well, I don't care! Attack, Ninjask!

Ninjask hurt itself in its confusion. Curses! Down to 52% now! Froslass used Substitute!

Okay, I've had enough of this weather. I don't care if the spikes kill it.

Showsni sent out Hippodon! Hippowdon is hurt by the spikes. Down to 28%... Well, not too bad.

Posted Image vs. Posted Image

Froslass used Confuse Ray! Hippowdon became confused!

The sandstorm rages, and after the poison damage my poor confused hippo is on 22%.

Veteran sent in PHOEBE! Stealth Rocks dig into Walrein, and it's down to something like 1HP.

Hippowdon hurt itself in its confusion! Down to 16%...

The sandstorm finished the ill fated Walrein off, and Hippowdon's poison takes it to 10%.

Veteran sent in MONICA! Stealth Rock damage hits her.

Froslass used Confuse Ray! But Hippowdon is already confused... Hippowdon snapped out of confusion! Hippowdon used Earthquake! Froslass fainted.

Didn't that happen before? And with that, Vet's last pokémon was taken down. Thanks for the game!

When I tested the ice team with you they were named after some of the Magnificent Seven!

Then I realised I had three males and three females, quite by accident, so changed their names.

As for the Showsni battle write-up: I should've switched Weavile out like I did in our previous battle. I don't really know why I kept her in this time. Maybe I thought Ice Punch would do more. She certainly wouldn't have stayed in had I known you had Slack Off!

When Abomosnow came out for the first time against Hippowdon, I knew you were going to switch. I just couldn't decide which of Blizzard or Earthquake to use. I figured that since Blizzard didn't harm your Gyarados much in the last battle, that would be what you'd bring in, so I couldn't risk a non-damaging Choice-locked EQ.

And finally, I had to keep using Confuse Ray from Froslass on an already confused enemy because none of my moves would've worked! Already had all 3 layers of Spikes up and no HP left for a Substitute.

I'm thinking of joining up with you guys for this at some point, but between the facts that I don't have a full list of Pokemon available to me (Delphi has my copy of FireRed, which is fine as I wouldn't really have a second DS available to me to trade them back and forth anyway, and I only have Pearl with me, not Platinum), and that I'm currently working on whittling down the Legendaries before the 8th gym (so sue me, I haven't really had the time to get myself back into this game for two years!), I feel a little intimidated and need to go quite a ways more to be ready. ;)

Showsni has received the Inferno Badge. It wasn't even a fair fight. I was completely destroyed from the get-go.

Congratulations

That was an incredible fight. I can tell you're gonna go places. Never let the flames of passion you get from battling die out, and you will become as powerful as the sun itself.

In addition to the Inferno, you can now use BRAG outside of battle.

Also, take this:

That Ponyta is an offspring of my own. With special moves added on. Raise it wisely

Levels don't matter, since we'll be playing online and automatically bump every pokemon up to LVL 100. Hell, most of Vet's pokemon are at around LVL 40-50.

More than anything, you wanna make sure your Effort Values are filled. You can find this out by going by the market in Sunnyshore City. If the pokemon in your first slot has all their EVs filled, she'll give them a ribbon.

EDIT: Yes, Sunnyshore. Thanks, Showni. I just know it in my head as "That city by the beach."
