Have I mentioned that I hate Nintendo of Europe?

Like, with seething rage? Yeah, screw them. Up the ass. With barbed wire.

Edit: Is the 'pre-launch teaser' video here one of the videos you're talking about? One that can be downloaded from the VC?

I think the trailer looks like shit. All I see is fighting, all I hear is music that sounds like it was ripped straight from Halo. That's not Metroid, that's the Metroid franchise bowing down to FPS expectations.

Yeah, but that's not necessarily a bad thing by any means. Besides, you obviously didn’t watch the new trailers if that’s all you saw.

Yep, and the "Pirate Battle" one. Expect the new videos to be up by tomorrow, though you could just get them off of Youtube like I did...

And I figured some of the newer screenshots of Samus in different armor looked similar to Federation Marine armor. Sure enough, the newer videos sport a title of "Fed Suit". They seem to like releasing a gameplay video along with cutscene/plot videos. Maybe Fed Suit is part of the latter.

Also, for our unfortunate European brethren who cannot experience this orgasmic broadcast to their Wii, the videos can be found at http://media.wii.ign...547/vids_1.html

"An Old Villain Returns" is a highly recommended view.

It's not so much "HOLY CRAP MOTHER BRAIN" as much as it's...

Spoiler : click to show/hide
HOLY SH*T, THERE'S POSSIBLY MORE MOTHER BRAINS!?

Kinda makes it seem that Mother Brain was an Aurora Computer that either became "too smart" and went rogue or was taken by the Space Pirates and adapted for their use, but it in turn ended up becoming too powerful and took control of them instead.

Kinda pointless since its from a public trailer, don't you think? Then again, I never spoiled anything...

Hence the "retcon" part of my post.

The original story was that Mother Brain was an organic supercomputer created by the Chozo for the sole purpose of overseeing their breeding program of Metroids needed to combat the X (Retro referenced this when they said the Aurora units were given gender identity in accordance to their designated purpose - Mother Brain is the "mother" of the Metroids on Zebes, and hence female) Now, according to the video the first Aurora was created 20 years ago, and previous canon says this was about the same time when the Space Pirates first invaded Zebes. Coincidence? Metroid Fusion's portrayal of the Federation says no. It is a retcon either way, but it is in fact quite possible someone in the Federation is the Space Pirate "High Command" mentioned in the Prime games. If true, this would indeed explain quite a bit.

As for Corruption, Nintendo long ago revealed that a Phazon virus had infected the Federation computer network. We now know exactly what that means, with thousands of Auroras under the control of Dark Samus. I'm guessing this will play into the story quite a bit.

And that last image shows an exact replica of Tourian, with Mother Brain in place. Presumably you fight her as a boss, though Retro might also use this opportunity to explain her return in Super Metroid. The other Auroras are likely clones of the original Mother Brain (similar to how the Metroids in Fusion are clones of the Hatchling) so technically she could appear in any game after this.

this doesnt look like a Metroid game.

Wheres the endless solitude? The zero human interraction? The loneliness?

If i enjoy this game the way i enjoyed Halo, i'm gonna be pissed.

I find it hilarious how people are claiming this is a 'clone of Halo' forgetting that Halo is one of the most derivative game ever, a clone of Quake, Half-Life, Doom and virtually every FPS ever.

This is Metroid Prime. The previous two games are brilliant and use a whole variety of clever, unique and original ideas. I have total faith in Retro Studios.

I agree with Fyxe.

And the only reason the trailers seem Halo-esque is because unless they make this game look like Halo, despite the fact that this is an Adventure game, not shooter, it's not gonna sell well. Halo set the fucking standard for first-person games, and it's damned hard to match it.

Does it deter Metroid fans from the game? A little, but it attracts other players as well.

I'm hoping that at least this interaction with people bit isn't widespread so much through the game. Plus, ever since the beginning, Samus has worked for the Federation. (Well, til Fusion at least) Personally, I think it's about time that we see who and where she gets her orders from, and the life and studies surrounding the Federation.

"There have been no cases of Phazon poisoning thus far."

...which of course means Samus'll have to fight some mutant Feddie soldier sometime, right?

Well Duh.

And did anyone else notice the Twitchy Feddie at the end of the clip?? I think that right there is enough proof.

If you ask me, this is going to turn into a four-front war; Samus and the Hunters, the Federation Military, the Space Pirates and then Dark Samus. Hell, depending on what the 'Mother Brains' do it could be five sided in the end.

I think I read somewhere that not only does Samus get corrupted, but all the other Hunters do as well and it slowly causes them to go insane. I'm pretty sure there's gonna be Hunter Battles.

That's true Fizzbit, that's apparently what will happen.

It's not a surprise. The fact that they added other Hunters means Samus was bound to face them. The real question is whether Sylux or any of Hunters from, um, Hunters, get involved.

Oh, and here's a bit of information... Corruption is the not the first Metroid game with in-game spoken dialogue. And no, I don't mean the opening of Super Metroid, or the computer in Fusion. There is one piece of spoken dialogue in Echoes, and I don't mean U-Mos' Luminoth speech either. If anyone can figure out where the dialogue is in the game, they can have a cookie.

The marines speak when they are attacked by the Ing.

Actually, the original Metroid Prime had much more voice work that Echoes, though most of it was reserved for the PAL version.

As for the hunters, Retro said there would be no Hunters hunters, so there probably won’t be.

Hey, I own the PAL version, and it don't remember any voice work. Maybe during the opening and ending... I forget. But no actual dialogue.

No Hunters hunters? Damn. That's not fair. Sylux at least deserves a proper backstory, he would have been a great addition.

But yes, you're right, one of the troopers speaks (possibly more, but I only heard one) when the Dark Splinters attack.

Well, yeah, I know you're British, but our American friends usually don't know about the added narrator in the intro/ending. Also, the suit says "Evacuate Immediately!" in all versions, and more in the European release, so there is some dialogue during gameplay.

And I am personally pretty happy with the amount of fan service in Corruption. The Hunters would have made sense, but they aren't really needed as far as I'm concerned.

I'm fairly unaware of the depth of the fan service, since I'm still waiting for NoE to put up those videos so I can see them properly. If they ever do such a thing. I'm aware of who appears towards the end of the opening stages though, and that Dark Samus/Metroid Prime is obviously involved.

In a way, I don't mind the lack of the Hunters hunters, I'd rather see Corruption focus more on the new guys. I think they have a lot of potential, even if Rundus's old voice-actor was ten times better than the new one.

That said, I watched the first hour of the game today, and I can tell you that the voice acting is actually pretty good. You don't have to worry about any overblown dialogue, everyone sounds very calm and collected.

Eh, the Opening and Ending narration for the PAL MP were kinda....uh, cheesy anyway, so no big loss.

While I do want Samus to have a voice - give Jennifer Hale something to do other then gasp and scream for once - I do hope she stays silent pretty much most of the time - maybe one or two lines at the end and leave it at that.

You're just jealous because you didn't get any Chozo ramblings in your bug-infested game!

Jokes aside, Jenifer Hale actually did narrate the intro at one point. The recording is still on the disc and all. It's pretty much the same thing as Super Metroid's intro. Speaking of which, I too would like to hear more Nintendo characters speak up. Hell, Samus isn't even a silent character! I dunno what's up with Tanabe and his promises to stay true to the silent protagonist "tradition", but even Koji Kondo admits that the lack of voice acting up until now has been mostly a financial issue.

Ending
Area Voice
Suit Voice

No, it's incredibly cheesy and ruins the dramatic effect of the ending especially.

No star shines brighter then that of Samus Aran? C'mon now, I realize Metroid uses regular sci fi tropes and conventions that everyone uses, but we really don't need some crazy cliched line. Honestly, Samus herself talking ala Super Metroid or Fusion would be better since then they'd be logs, and it'd make sense.

Provided they stay mostly professional and don't become her personal LJ anyway. <.<
