Moblins can obviously talk, they have done since TLoZ.
There's a talking Goriya in LA, and some major monsters talk in LA and in the Oracle games.

Well, as amusing as it is to picture Link as a mass murdering psychopath, they are *monsters*. It's not like Link kills Yeta.
But they're only monsters because that's how someone describes them. If we called a Gerudo a monster, does that suddenly make killing it okay? Link doesn't hold back against Yeta at all, and it's only really Nintendo that stops things like Yeta and Gerudo from dying. It's fine for Link to kill things that don't look human, even if they're sentient, developed beings, with a society, language, etc? Some moblins just want to hide in holes and avoid the war, and Link blackmails them.

Who says he doesn't hold back? It's not like we, as a player, have a 'don't hit too hard' button. I don't think Link ever tries to kill Gerudos or Yeta. And other monsters tend to explode before they die rather than rolling around on the floor bleeding to death.Link doesn't hold back against Yeta at all, and it's only really Nintendo that stops things like Yeta and Gerudo from dying.
Nah, I always thought that they gave Link the Rupees willingly, like the Thieves in ALttP.Some moblins just want to hide in holes and avoid the war, and Link blackmails them.

But they still do so to pay his silence, even if he didn't threaten them... right?Nah, I always thought that they gave Link the Rupees willingly, like the Thieves in ALttP.

Well they don't want others to find out that they aren't in the war.
So "Don't tell anyone."

Yeah, but that doesn't mean Link is blackmailing them.. just that he's not above taking a bribe

It was a shame this aspect wasn't played up a little bit more in TP when you...
Not that it would have been appropriate for Link to go all "Hitman" or GTA or Reservoir Dogs on him, but... you know. Link the Heavy, twisting arms to get payment.

I'm fairly sure that's how it was intended. The Rupee-giving Moblins always struck me as defectors. Don't tell the other Moblins that I'm supporting the good side, because a vast majority of them still work for that Ganon jerk.

Moblin: Ah! Someone found me! Please, don't tell anyone! I'll give you gold!
Link: Okay...
or
Link: Die, Moblin scum!
Moblin: No, save me! I'm innocent! I just want a peaceful life!
Link: Tell you what. If you give me... shall we say... a little incentive, I won't let on to Ganon's men where you are.
Moblin: This is all I have...
Link: You've made a wise decision. But next time I come, I want more! Got it?

My main idea is that Link attacks beings that try to harm him, and he just happens to be strong enough to kill them without much trouble. Maybe these monsters, or at least the ones running around the overworld, are created for the purpose of hassling the "good guys", or even just Link.
Another question that comes to mind is do the monsters cease to exist following the defeat of the main villain(s), or do they linger all the time, just in smaller numbers?

Hehe...that reminds me, have you ever beaten up cuccos in TP?But then, he can beat up cuccos all he likes. Until they go crazy.

I especially liked how killing the cucco that summoned the flock stops them swarming! Clearly they don't care as much as they lead us to believe about their brethern!

Heck, in Zelda II, the doors just essentially imploded on themselves. o.o
