Hali rubbed her head and sat up, trying to regain her vision; the blow from Steel had messed up her senses. She looked behind her to see a shelf full of scrolls... with different markings on each shelf. She took the scroll from the sensei and looked at it, seeing that it was the same symbol as on of the other scrolls. "Hmm... I wonder..." Hali thought, picking up the other scroll and looking at it. She smiled and mentally yelled, "Nice!" She then got up and spoke aloud. "Z! We don't need the sensei! This scroll has all of the translations!"
Z looked at Hali, seeing the second scroll. He raised an eyebrow, then slapped his forehead with his free hand. "Gah, how did I not notice that before...? Fine, let's go."
Hali jumped onto Z, who was using his spike chain as legs again, and kicked Gabe out of the way as she was coming into the room. Z used his lengthy, quick leaps to make a quick escape from the pagoda.

"What!? Oh, jeez... how can this be!? I found it at those ruins, I swear!" Hali complained.
"I know, I know! Wait... maybe..." Z mumbled, scanning down the scroll. It read:
"For more recipes, visit me in Glenien. I live by the port, the only house there."
"Whoever wrote this recipe must've gotten to the ruins first, and I'd wager she has what we're after." Z concluded. "I have to go and catch up with Button; he's sure to be getting impatient now. You go and get the real scroll -- and be quick, I'm sure the others are coming; leave no evidence -- and we'll meet up at the forest with Button. I may need your help when I'm done with it."
Hali smiled. "Alright. See you later." she said, giving Z a kiss on the cheek. He blushed, then they went their separate ways; Z to where Button waited, and Hali to the cook's house. Their plan was finally in motion.
----------
Z found where Button was waiting, at the doorway of the tavern where he obliterated the people in. He jumped down beside him. "Sorry it took so long."

"Sorry I took so long." said Z.
Button smiled, bringing himself up straight and brandishing the knife he had used to murder the innocents. He took it up to his tongue and licked the blood that stained the new silver. Then he smiled, and the blood had stained his teeth.
Then, as if another personality took over, Button switched from a madman to the calm, commanding persona that people had come to associate him with.
"Are you ready to leave?" asked Button.

"Important that scroll is . . . And also, fear I what they shall find if reach they the woman mentioned on the scroll . . . Saw it I did . . . interests it is in your best, after them to go. Taught you much I have. Yet much is left to learn. This I cannot teach, let experience be your tutor from now on. Go after them now, and return when you may." Steel bowed, turned, and left.

"Are you ready to leave?" asked Button.
"Yes. Let's go." Z said, walking towards the docks with the former pirate. "This fool has no idea what I'm planning... and I'm sure it will only be a minute or two until Hali is finished and long gone."
----------
Meanwhile, the woman who left the recipe was busy cooking yet another concoction, when she heard a knock on the door. She went and opened it, only to be sliced in half by one of Hali's flaming swords. The sorcerer of fire searched the room, destroying everything, until she found a secret compartment. She opened it and found exactly what she was looking for; the correct scroll. She grabbed it and put it with the translation scroll, then used her fire power to set the house aflame.
She then disappeared into the night, towards the dock.

However there is a different type of nightmare that is given no name. A nightmare that occurs all too often yet has scarcely been uttered of in the human tongue. A nightmare that grows from uncertainty and false resolve. A nightmare that is born in the far unexplored corners of the victim’s own mind.
A boy woke in his room: another victim.
Perseus crouched in the corner of the desolate room. The world was dark and the sky was red. There was no joy or happiness in this place, and despair hung over in the form of swiftly moving clouds like a blanket.
There was only one window in the room, and Perseus found himself bathing underneath the red light that streamed through it as if it were fresh water. He was imprisoned.
Suddenly he felt time lurch as he went back several days, or perhaps hours, or years. He didn’t know, it didn’t matter. The world was red.
He found himself standing over the bodies of his companions, all of them. One by one he had betrayed them, tortured them, mutilated them. The wooden floor was stained with the black blood of his wide-eyed victims.
Time lurched again, and Perseus found himself pinned to a cross, the red sun blazing, his sorry red hide. All his companions, alive and well, were at the foot of the cross brandishing spears, stabbing him, cutting him, slashing him. The pain was unbearable, and all the while they stared at him demon-like with hollow red eyes. That blended in with the atmosphere around them. He cried, he yelled. But all that came out was, not sound, but Red. A colour. Suddenly he found himself once again in the shadowy prison, but this time, he was dead, or about to die, or he had been decaying for years. Which one it was he couldn’t tell. It didn’t matter.
Perseus sat up in bed. Sweating, breathing heavily. His eyes were bloodshot as he stared into nothing, panicking.
“Laz.”

Button and Z boarded the small boat which was manned by too few a crew. Button was quiet. He was thinking to himself. Not anything in particular. His mind was on nothing. It was one of those occassions where the demented madman was reserved, and these occassions were too few, but absolutely necessary. For Button's madness was the battery that drived him.
It drove him on and on and on. He was a machine that could not be stopped until breakdown. Breakdown was the point that everything shuts down and Button becomes calm so he could recharge his madness for another round.
It was at these times, though, when he was his most dangerous. Any implication of thought nor any sort of movement would set him off. He was a machine, like what's been stated before. He wasn't to blame for any sort of action that would be taken against any obstacle in his way.
He was impassive as he watched the preparations be made for shore leave. He would be that way for some time.

Z had nothing to worry about. These pirates appeared weak and could be taken down by him or Hali if need be. They were nothing more than a speed bump to him.

Steel skidded to a stop and turned to Ken. "Ken. Z and one of what passes for a friend of his have taken one of Sensei's scrolls. I'm off to retrieve it. Join me if you will.

"That I will."
And with that, he would follow behind Steel.

(Gah! Sorry... fine, then me and Button are at... whatever port we entered from. Roslen, I think... ARGH! Someone help me out here! And btw, Z, unless Button needs to talk to me, is out of this chapter now. I'm about to finish Hali's [an NPC, just so you know] role.)OOC: Errm, DL, you may wish to check your LA geography. Glenien does not have a port, it's like 200 miles inland, and about 1000 miles from the Taj Nar mountains.
----------
Hali quickly weaved in and out buildings around the port. She eventually came across Z's and Button's ship, knowing it by spotting Z on the deck. "He'll want me close by, but out of sight." she thought. She looked around and saw a VERY small ship in the port... a life boat. While she had no idea how a life boat got into a normal dock, she couldn't really argue. Although she couldn't really do anything until Z and Button left. She decided to hide until they did went for their destination, and would follow at a distance when they did.
----------
(There; unless anyone has anything else they have planned, I'm done.)

Perseus stumbled through the hallway like a drunken man, holding his throbbing head, trying to stop the pain.
It was still the middle of the night, but perseus knew he had to get out and fly. The red nightmare was still filling his mind… consuming it. It was spreading like a blanket over his brain, slowly overtaking all reasonable thought and emotion. It was driving him mad.
He started to run through the hallways as he frantically searched for a way out. He looked left and right, opening doors, and closing them, looking for an entrance. His head was hurting more and more, as images from the nightmare filled his mind. He finally ran out into some kind of huge hall. He swiftly launched into the air, flying crazily in circles with no particular path.
He broke through the top window, finally escaping into the night sky.
He flew and he flew, trying to outrun the nightmare that was chasing him. He flew north, to Olimandius, beholding its great towers, he kept flying. Roslen, Vanadiel, Uradiel… he finally reached the fabled Tor-denma mountain, but he kept flying. His back was red and blistered, the muscles on his wings ripped and bleeding, his body was broken, he had been flying for days… yet he kept on, defying his limits to the last. He would die soon.
2 days later he awoke, finding himself flying over the Lalvican Sea…
he looked around… what was he doing here? As his senses awoke, pain shot through him like a thousand knives. His back felt like it was on fire.
His conscious mind ruling him now, his body immediately gave up…
Suddenly he felt a sickening crunch as the bones in one of his wings snapped in two with its next flap.
He fell.

"Hey, don't forget me! You still haven't answered my question!" Gabriel shouted as she ran after Steel and Ken

Steel ran into Danmir, long hair streaming behind him. He had pushed the others hard, making a journey which generally took 3 days on foot they had done in a day and a half, arriving in the town just hours after Z. Ken had stood up well, his wolf form having resilience far beyond anything a normal human could hope to master. Steel was not so sure about Gabe, however. He would ask her when he got the chance. But now was not the time. Steel stopped and focussed, honing his senses on just two entities in the twon . . . Z and Hali. There. By the docks. Hali was closer. Motioning to the others, Steel took off in that direction. He found Hali hiding behind some crates. Without a word, Steel drew his tanto and pressed it close against her neck. "Where is it little sorceress?"

Hali just grinned. "Do you honestly think I'd give it to you? Besides, cutting me won't do you any good..." she said cryptically. Without warning, her body became a raging inferno and blasted Steel back.
Z crashed into the ground in front of Hali. "You're persistence is getting irritating! Can't you just leave us alone?"

Z looked on bordely, then looked back to the port. The ship was leaving. "Aw, crud! Wait for us!" he shouted as he grabbed Hali by the arm and made a spike chain-boosted leap to the ship, careful not to wreck it upon landing.

Ken tensed up his lupine body and broke into a fast run, speeding past Gabriel and Steel. Just as he hit the edge of the dock, he kicked his legs against the dock, cuasing a a crack in the planks he hit. He managed to carry enough momentum to land just on the edge on the rear of the ship.
Ken again stopped to recover from the feat, panting. He looked up after a few seconds and bared his fangs, a low growl emitting from his throat.

Z noticed Ken and Gabriel transforming and beginning their attack, so he blocked their progress. "Didn't I tell you to get lost? Allow me to make my point a little clearer..." he said ominously. He began using what he'd learned on the Taj Nar mountains, summoning the shadows around him and forming them into tangible objects. He chose to form what looked like hundreds of needles hovering around him. The needles then shot at Ken and Gabriel without warning.
