Pokemon is hardly Zelda. And, again, you're stating opinion rather than fact. Do you have any evidence to support your idea that the pokemon games were ruined by the tv series and the movie?

Once again, you take what I say the wrong way. A film WILL NOT RUIN THE GAMES!

IT WILL CHEAPEN THE SERIES!

There IS a difference. The pokemon games are still fun to play and time consuming, however, the public hates these games. Why? They have been over marketed. The first thing they did to start this was give it its own show. Then the Movies began. Then figures and millions of other forms of these creatures appeared.

Zelda has already had a television show... A movie is the next step to ruin in the public's eye.

This is a good comment. Is it directed at me or TSA?

It was generally directed at TSA, but because this IS a forum, anyone may reply. Me being against this movie idea does not make me ignorant or un-intellegent. You see, I know many, many things about writing and storytelling, and a little about filming, stage directing and acting. I am not stupid. I simply feel that some things, games in particular should not traverse their original media. I have explained my reasoning behind this several times, the main one is that any expansion of media brings about a sort of death of credibility. How can Zelda be a leading video game series, when it is so spread out? It would be a craze at first, but then it would burn out. Not only would its new fans leave it, but some of the old fans too, who were disgusted by the sudden expansion of media. I used to be a fan of the Pokemon series, as many were. The over marketing simply got on my nerves, and though the games increased quality, I no longer had much interest in them. There is almost no hope for a burned out craze, for crazes take about twenty years to revolve back into pop culture.

Um, chronicle, I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but may I point out that the Pokemon games, which I don't particularly like, are probably the biggest thing that Nintendo has going on for them right now. The countless screen performances of Pokemon haven't done anything but help the game franchise because kids were the demographic in particular that it was aimed at. Kids want anything cool at the time. Pokemon just happened to be that thing.

Now, Zelda could do the same thing, only they have a MUCH broader demographic to please, which makes it harder for them to compete with Pokemon, for reasons already stated. However, I think it could work. If it was done properly, I seriously think that a movie would bring more people to the series. If others are driven away by it, then they weren't REAL fans of Zelda, now were they?

^I agree with Darunia. Chronicle I'm still not sure what you're basing all your claims on. You say it will "cheapen" the series and make it lose its fan base if a movie is made citing pokemon as an example; and yet all evidence states the exact opposite. It seems to me like you're seeing this whole issue and how it will affect you, instead of how it will affect the general populace, with phrases like "I used to be a fan of the Pokemon series" but "[t]he over marketing simply got on my nerves" making you lose interest in the series.

Oh, and when you say things like "[n]ot only would its new fans leave it, but some of the old fans too, who were disgusted by the sudden expansion of media" how is that anything less than ruining the series? You can't really have much of a game series if you don't have an audience, right?

erm...pokemon is not childish or aimed at the young. It's just the tv series (which i dislike) that makes it seem so. Little kids would not be able to play the games with all the strategy involved in them. There's a lot more to it than you'd think.

Anyways more to the point. Although i have a few objections to making a Zelda movie, i also think that it could be good for the Zelda series if it is done well. I also think that Darunia was right in saying that anyone who is driven away from it because of a bad movie, isn't that good a fan.

it's the -dub- and simultaneous -edit- of the tv show that makes it seem so. :P
www.dogasusbackpack.tk has the straight dope on how cool the series is without editings... and.. yeah. comparisons. ^_^

Hm. I don't mind the series that much. I don't watch it much at all, but it's nice to have a little ridiculousness now and then, you know. I think the dubbers and directors were just appealing to a specific audience.

Yes, but you're forgetting one thing. The goal of studios is to make money, and if they throw out a buttload of movies that don't sell.....you know, do the math. That's why a professional big-screen approach appeals to me more. Most adults draw back at the sight of anime.

Animated, but not anime. Also, I don't think computer animation would be very good, either. Maybe something like Batman. Or Gargoyles. *murrs happily at the thought of Greg Weisman directing such an endeavor; then remembers the horror that was Max Steel*
It seems that the best Zelda games tend to be the darkest. Both Batman and Gargoyles had that dark animation style. I'm just sayin', is all.
Plus, Batman had Harley Quinn, and Gargoyles had Demona. Yum. *g*

I actually thought of an animated Zelda once, I kind of imagined that climactic scenen in Aladdin and rearranged the characters, with Link chained to a post, and a beautifully illustrated Nabooru's assistant looking himover, sort of in that Arabian Nights thing. It's a good idea, but after we've seen LOTR done, it is nice to set your mind on higher things too.

There's an intelligent statememnt. "American" animation, yeah, the big, expensive kind that moves a lot? It's better quality than anime, sweetheart. I'm a little like thabto here, I'd rather kick off before I see an anime Zelda movie.

Meh, sorry, guess I got carried away with my rude rant about how terrible the movie could be. I just can't stand most anime (art). I still think american animation is better though.

I still don't get what's wrong with double posting. (Quadrupal... [ dunno how to spell it] I could understand, lol, but...)

It's annoying, and a habit of post-rackers. A better way to build posts is post something on the verge of spam, but not quite.

That's what I do.

Personally... an anime Zelda is the only thing that would really satisfy me. I can't think of a single live action movie based on video games that I've seen and enjoyed for being a good movie, while where anime is concerned, I can think of multiple examples.

I agree with Ben about the cast, if they did have to make a live action.

I dunno about the cast people have said so far, and I myself cant think of any right now. But if it was going to made I'd want either live action or cartoon (not anime), I found that would appeal to me more. As for the game to be based off of, I think it should be new in some respect but based on all the games in some way.

Live action could be kinda neat... However, a non-anime expensive, top notch, detailed, animated catroon.

I wouldn't make it too dark. And if it had to be like a game, OOT, definitly.

Anime just seems wrong for a Zelda movie...

Anyways, I agree with Husse.

PS I think I just realized I'n repeating myself, but... oh well.
