The albums versions will probably have more to their sound than the live ones, simply because Bellamy doesn't have to exchange between guitar and keys, so they'll be piano/keys/synth, guitar and bass at the same time.

Hmm . . . my friend's sister has the cd, maybe I'll try and borrow it . . . I've heard a couple songs, but I don't remember being too impressed, being more of a heavy guitar guy myself, I wasn't too into some of the discordant piano pieces (map of your head, Dark shines) (although dark shines was pretty sweet otherwise)Interestingly, all from Absolution... If you haven't already, listen to Origin of Symmetry, their second album, and argued by many as their best. Personally I can't decide between all three. In fact, I can't decide between four, if I include the B-Sides Cd included with the live album Hullabaloo.
Their Wiki is fairly detailed.
Me and my friend (some of you might possibly remember Ransom) made an anime music video to Stockhom Syndrome . . . I'm uploading it to youtube now, I'll post the link when it's finished. If you're a member of AMV.org, then you can find it here

Really though, there's plenty of heavy guitar in their early stuff. A good chunk of it is heavier than Absolution. I suggest you listen to New Born, Hyper Music, Plug In Baby, and the wonderfully bizarre Micro Cuts. But at the same time, don't let your preference of guitar over piano let you miss out on the freakin' excellent Dead Star.
Also, Cave from their first album is a good guitar-based piece.
Darkshines doesn't have piano... Maybe you're mixing it up with Dead Star (similar name, after all). Darkshines is full-on guitar.
Map Of Your Head is actually a B-Side (may have been a single), not one of my favourite tracks, but hey, I like anything they do.
When it comes to Absolution, my favourite tracks are often the lesser known ones. Stockholm Syndrome and Time Is Running Out are brilliant, but I personally love The Small Print and Butterflies & Hurricanes lots.

But still, Darkshines doesn't have piano, and Dead Star is another very heavy track for most of it.
Husky, Dead Star was a single, but the studio version never appeared on any of the albums. Just on the singles.

I have two singles, Hysteria, and the Dvd version of Butterflies & Hurricanes. Soon I'll have Supermassive Black Hole, come next Monday.

Hyper music does have a little piano in it. plunkity plunk. I'll have a listen to those you recommended from origin of symmetry. I don't really like guitar over piano I suppose, just an addiction to moderately heavy music in general. My all time favorite muse song is prob Hysteria, Butterflies and hurricanes close second. The album info on my version of Map of Your Head says it's from Hullaballoo Soundtrack cd1. Anyway, Youtube's finally finished loading, but I do not recommend it, as the quality is the crappiest thing I've seen in my life, Get it from AMV.org! www.youtube.com/watch?=pkb0gDqogliWell bloody hell, if you like heavy guitar, the first song (and the single) from Origin of Symmetry, New Born, is one freakin' heavy song when it gets going. You have a minute of piano-based intro, then it just goes 'bang'. It's definitely one of my favourite Muse songs of all time. Favourite ever song, even.

I didn't pick those tracks specifically because they had no piano, just that they were somewhat heavy and had plenty of twangingty twang (read: guitars).
The first Hullaballoo Cd is a collection of B-sides, and is actually an excellent album on it's own.

Heh. We'll see. I will definitely listen to the rest of it, but my first impression is not so good.
Oh, be more open minded. Muse can't do the exact same thing over and over and over. I'm glad they're trying something a bit different.
And yes, listen to Knights, it's a brilliant track.
Better yet, go ahead and listen to Origin of Symmetry, you deprived child.

Except for some people, when a band tries something different, they accuse them of "selling out".Oh, be more open minded. Muse can't do the exact same thing over and over and over. I'm glad they're trying something a bit different.

...I don't like Queen. Well, I tolerate them, but apparently everyone else in the world thinks they're great. And I don't. I just think they're sorta alright, but at the same time, sorta annoying.

Let me rephrase my answer then. I don't listen to anything majorly influenced by 80s music period except for queen. Queen is the exception because they're funny. Very funny. If the full KOC sounds like butterflies and hurricanes . . . then I am going to be wowified . . .Queen isn't eighties metal or influenced by eighties metal. They're seventies opera rock with some prog and metal elements.

The reason I think Knights will sound like Butterflies is because it sounds to me like one of those songs that will gain more oomph when they've got the fully mixed studio version. Not that the live version of Butterflies is bad, but it's one of those songs where the studio version has something extra.

I'll reserve judgment on knights till I've heard the full studio version I s'pose.

And a lot of their songs do sound very similar, which doesn't help. We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions are basically the same song but with a different beat.
The Bicycle one annoys the hell out of me because I heard it a lot when I was a kid and I thought it was stupid then, it's even *more* stupid now.
I Want To Break Free is painfully, painfully camp. Hurts.
Don't Stop Me Now is the only one I can listen to without being totally annoyed. But even that one has some problems. Repetativeness, mainly.
