The stuff that isn't 'classical' is simply 'orchestral' if I'm not mistaken?

What about symphonic rock?

Symphonic Rock is not "classical". There are more variables involved than just orchestral instruments.

I love you guys, you never cease to entertain me.

Rap music is the devil. Rock music is the Devil. Jazz music is the Devil. Big band music is the devil. Solo singers are the devil. Anything written after 1700 is the devil. Get my point?

For those that use the arguments that Rap leads teenagers to sex and violence? Really, it doesn't take much to come up with an excuse for teenagers to have sex. They'll do it to beathoven if their parents told them that it was evil.

Also, the same values were in rock music that are in Rap. Society did not become completely trashed because of rock, did it? Same with Jazz, that was thought of as the music of sex, because it refused to keep a steady rythym.

Again, I love you guys...

That post was entirely uncalled for. Stop spamming posts with your emo angst in hopes of turning attention to you. You've been warned about this, and even suspended for it.

Now.. onto the classical thing.

Quote

Classic
Main Entry: 1clas·sic
Pronunciation: 'kla-sik
Function: adjective
Etymology: French or Latin; French classique, from Latin classicus of the highest class of Roman citizens, of the first rank, from classis
1 a : serving as a standard of excellence : of recognized value b : TRADITIONAL, ENDURING ....
3 a : historically memorable b : noted because of special literary or historical associations

Quote

Classical
3 a : of or relating to music of the late 18th and early 19th centuries characterized by an emphasis on balance, clarity, and moderation b : of, relating to, or being music in the educated European tradition that includes such forms as art song, chamber music, opera, and symphony as distinguished from folk or popular music or jazz

Just because there are violin, cellos, and pianos, doesn't mean it's classical music. It has to be from the time period. A good way to tell if it's classical is if a dead German guy composed it. That's another thing - classical music isn't sung or performed - it's composed.

What is the modern equivalent of classical music called? Just symphony music or something like that?

I hate to break it to you Bond...but having violins in a piece doesn't make it classical sounding. There's violins in a lot of Evanesance songs and they're certainly not classical.

So stop this elitism "I'm so much better than you because ~I~ listen to classical sounding music!" Cuz it's REALLY ticking me off.

What classical stuff do you listen to anyways?

You could go listen to like Verdi (GOOD opera. Fun to sing too), Rachmaninov (actually a more recent composer), Mozart's always good, Tchaikovsky I basically grew up with because I danced in the Nutcracker, Puccini wrote beautiful songs, Handel's Messiah (and I mean more than the Halleuja chorus), Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries is awe inspiring.

You always have to have issues with me don't you. You always have to find out a way to dislike me. Well first of all I said they are a Classical/Pop band. DUH. OF course it doesn't sound all classical. It has a bit of classical touch in it and it has some pop in it. And no this isn't all I listen to thank you very much. I listen to any kind of classical. Now as in just classical. Not with any pop mixed in. On win amp I listen to the Internet radio everyday. And that station is called Mostly Classical. Which its just pretty much just classical music. I like bond yes, but I always listen to regular classical music all the time.

Dude. What we're saying is that "classical" music (as in, what the CD stores call "classical" music) tends not to be real classical music at all. Classical music comes from a specific time period (about 1750 to 1820 or so), and is characterized by specific stylistic elements. Hence, Beethoven, Bach, Palestrina, and Stravinsky (among many others) are NOT classical composers, while Mozart and Haydn are.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't clear. Now I look like an idiot. XD I do know that Bach is Baroque as was Vivaldi and Beethovan is Romantic era, but kind of on the edge of Classical. I'm actually more of an Early Romantic era fan, I should say. But I do like a lot of Mozart. I was studying to be a music major too, you know. ;)

I couldn't take up music (I chose art, and it ended up being too much work). A lot of things I gather about music usually ends up with someone saying is wrong, and then they say that it's something else, and what they say is the right word most people think isn't...

So are a lot of people, it seems.

But for the non-music majors, yes, we tend to lump 'classical' into one category. At least the whole Romantic, Baroque, and the like are all one thing to me. I'm not that picky, as I'm... well, not a music major. But, I do consider classical to be anything... well, really old and well known. A classic, if you will. You can't expect us people who aren't musical fanatics to know this stuff. XP

So I see where Bond is coming from, but, ah... no. His Bond ladies aren't classical, even if they cover classical compositions.

To tell you the truth bond's first album, born was banned from the classical music. Something like that. So that’s why their music is considered a mixture of pop and classical. You guys only listened to that one song. Some of the songs they do put a lot of the beats in making it not sound classical. One of their songs Lullaby they renamed it does sound a bit classical. I forgot what the original song name was.

But anyway I'm about to take violin lessons. I want to be as good as bond. Ages ago they past level 8 on their violins. That’s why they sound excellent. :D

Beethoven was a Romantic composer. Mainstream media tends to lump all historical types of music, and modern orchestral and choral music into the category "classical." They pay no attention to the fact that "classical music" is music from the Classical period. :P

And yes, Miatch.. you could.. but then I couldn't be anal about it. :P
