Dunno... I convince me dad to take me down by the mall tomorrow to get one. I just can't pick which game! Anyone have any idea what would be good for a former fanatic who stopped around the GS era?

Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald or Colluseum. You need to learn the Hoenndex before you get FireRed/LeafGreen.

The Pokedexes have different national orders now, and Colluseum is mostly stealing pokemon gold monsters off of bad trainers and turning them good again.

ETA: You added a poll, huh? Well, then Emerald since you can get all the legendaries.

Yeah, and I edited my post. Emerald, if you check my last one. I never got it (learnt from Crystal and Yellow that getting slight variations is kind of pointless).

Pearl and Diamond out later this year or next year!

G and S were my favorite series of all. ^_^ hmmmm, yes you do need the Hoenn experience, so I'd go with Emerald, as it is an upgrade in a way of the Hoenn versions.

Is this is also a good place to discuss the teams in sigs fad that 13 started?

Masa must be a pretty good breeder, then. ;)

Oh, and I'm stickin' with Emerald. *points to sig*

G and S were my favorite series of all.

Can I get an "amen"?

Oh yeah. There was so many tots and tweens that dorkified an awesome video game. We need to relcaim the pride in buying pokemon games.

Yes, Silver was the best game ever. I preferred it to Crystal even, which I just used to import pokemon into Silver and give me someone of a decent level to fight in Viridian School.

Teehee, I stopped around the GS era too! Then I recently got Emerald for my birthday and was hooked again. I go crazy trying to keep all my Pokémon at the exact same level! I also don't let my Pokémon evolve because they are just so cute the way they are! Except for Ralts, because it will eventually evolve into that pretty Pokémon with a dress in Zythe's sig. My favorites are Skitty and Marill because they are the cutest! Yesterday I caught a Minun, but for now it is staying in Someone's PC until I find a Plusle, because well you can't have a Minun without a Plusle! :D

Hey, what should my starter Pokemon be? I was thinking Torchic, since I love fire Pokemon and when it evolves it also can learn some Fighting moves. But, its evolution are kinda ugly-lookin' and I've had a Fire Pokemon as my starter in every game I have besides Yellow, so it might go with Treecko because

a) Treecko is awesome
B) Treecko's evolutions are awesome

but Mudkip has its advanteges... what do ya'll think I should pick (I can't think for myself XD) ?

I picked Torchic because, depending on when you let him evolve, you have the greatest set of moves to choose from. If you do it right you can have fighting, flying and fire moves.

Treecko just looks cool and I do like my grass starters but after a while they start growing slowly (then again, I've had a no-cheats lv. 93 Venusaur before) and their moves on a whole are pityable.

Water types are good all rounders but I find they make the game really easy and when you unlock the uber-awesome pokemon near the end you never use them again.

Blaziken rules.

Picking starting Pokemon is a tough decision sometimes. :nnsweat: I always go for the fire starters; it has been like that in every Pokemon game I've played. Torchic and its evolutions came in handy throughout the whole entire game, but the other ones could be fun as well.

Fire starters are clearly the most powerful, but be sure to teach it an electric move if you can.

Well depends....compared to older starters the Advanced starters are all equally awesome.......

Torchic to Blaziken-
Unique type and packs incredibly spcl. atk and physical attack plus good moves, devastating if you choose to do a Reversal Blaziken and also has effectiveness vs many early Gym leaders.

Mudkip to Swampert-
Thing is a TANK, its type makes it only weak to grass attacks and thats it....awesome HP and defenses and good attack. With Curse and a good Earthquake it can tank everything.

Treecko to Sceptile-
This thing is actually weak offensively but is the MOST feared pokemon in competitive play out of the starters........insane speed that puts near everything to shame. Good trait and type is unique for its offensive stats.
A Sceptile with Leech Seed/Substitute/Leaf Blade/Hidden Power Fire and Leftovers is possibly the hardest thing to bring down without a Swalot or Tentacruel. Plus when low on health it can let rip with a very potent Leaf Blade with high chance of crit.

Of course its all assuming you train them right that is

Do you train in cycles to make sure they're all the same level like what I do? My nephew only ever raises his starter so he ends up with an almost-unbeatable level 100 Blastoise/Feralgatr/Swampert and a team of level 40 creatures he caught wild. A good Mewtwo/Lugia/Rayquaza could destroy his team.

And does anyone else raise like 20 pokemon and swap them around? I keep a Ho-Oh and Kyogre and whatnot in my Ruby's PC.

I have seven Pokemon that I raise in Gold. The ones you see in the sig, and the Snorlax from Kanto. Snorlax is only on level 50 or so and I put him in the box when my Togetic had an egg. Togepi hatched with super strong attacks, and I've know raised it to level 30 in a week. The other five of my Pokemon I've had pretty much since the begining, and their all in the level 60-75 range, with Typhlosion the highest, so I guess I do what your nephew does...

Oh, and I may just pick Treecko. Not that anyone cares.

Yeah, I keep my legendaries stored away in the PC so I can level up other lower level Pokemon. I catch numerous Pokemon, but there are only about 10 which I raise at the same time, around the same levels, for the use of my team.

Yeah, I do that too. I find the ultra rare ones (Dragonite, Tyranitar, Metagross, Salamence etc.) are really powerful once you train them up some. I always love it when some people make their primary team of six: "Articuno (who's the best Legendary Something, btw), Zapdos, Moltres, Aerodactyl, Lugia and Ho-oh" because then a few ice and electric pokemon take down an otherwise awesome team XD

Yeah, the stereotype "legendary Pokemon are better because their legendary" is funny. XD

I don't like using legendaries. It makes me feel stuck-up.

Emerald's probably the best choice (I don't own that own though, I own Sapphire) although I think you're already set on that one :).

For newbies I usually recommend Fire Red or Leaf Green since they are better at starting you off but since you aren't one off to the gem versions you go ;)

I'm starting up my Leaf Green now and thus far it's kind of fun and nostalgic to go through the old areas again.
EnchantedToast's decision to go with unevolved Pokemon sounds fun (that and I do enjoy some of the pre-evolutions aesthetics more than their evolved forms :P) although I don't have the time nor patience to start up another game for it (maybe if I get Emerald I might have fun like that though, but right now I don't plan to make that purchase).

I do think the series is due for a rehaul though and I hope that the DS' Pearl & Diamond versions gives it that jolt, especially considering the features of the system makes it a perfect time for it :)

I agree with Skyreus.

If they could do a beautiful 2d overhead world with full 3d graphics in battles and a menu/item/pokedex/team/map screen on the bottom, that would rock.
