@Jasi

Oh I agree there is a limit. I've just always considered nice denim pants/skirts to be about the most casual that business casual can be, but I think that's more or less a personal judgement. Personally I hate denim, since Khakis are much lighter and more comfortable, but I think it can pass as business casual, just barely though. :P

Yeah, I've kinda had to come to terms with the fact that nice-looking, high-quality clothes are going to cost me a lot more than the $10 t-shirts I'm used to. I've been trying to buy like 1 new thing every week or every 2 weeks.. it's a slow process. x_x

ModCloth has tons of cute stuff, and they even have a slider on the sidebar where you can put your price range. This is just tops, $35 or less: http://www.modcloth....t=newest&page=1

I've checked out Mod-Cloth, but I went to this weird part where everything was literally one size fits all. For skirts. Lol no.

I shall browse some more.

I know this is long after the fact now, but

Denim skirts are rather unfashionable to be honest. Short denim skirts kind of had their day in the 2000s and they have not come back. Longer denim skirts I don't think have ever been fashionable...

I'm so excited that a real-life girl has validated my anti-denim-skirt proclivities.

The reason denim skirts are awkward is that denim is so very stiff and heavy, so it just kind of sits there in a giant shapeless block over your legs. Lighter and flowier fabrics move with your body more and aren't as visually imposing. This isn't as much of a problem with denim skirts that are knee length or shorter, though.

edit: because I am procrastinating, I decided to be Kissy's personal shopper and find some knee-length, A-line skirts that are under $30 and have fun patterns!

Old Navy has funky fits for tops in my opinion, but it's kind of hard to screw up an A-line skirt, so these are probably okay for $25:

Etsy has a ton of skirts that could be good for you. E.g.: one, two, three but there are sooo many. And you can search by price.

Forever 21 has lots of stuff that won't appeal to you (ugh, talk about sheer and tight) but if you dig through all the crap you might find something nice. How into the boho look are you? :P

For unpatterned things that are easy to wear: a black maxi skirt like this one is very versatile and could replace the function of jean skirts for you.

I also think you'd love Anthropologie. They are probably mostly out of your price range (gosh they are for me), but they have pretty good sales where their stuff drops down into the "I can conceive of spending that much money on something" range. And sometimes they have like 25% off sale items and things like that! Anyway, here is the sale section of their skirts. I bet you'd like most of them. You could ask for some for Christmas :P

I'm keeping my jean skirts. :e_e:

But those suggestions are nice! I'll probably get the second etsy one because I think it's cute.

And I like the forever 21 one. It's a miracle you even found anything there. XD

THREE real-life girls!

I also hate denim jackets. Denim in general, really. I think it's because everyone wears jeans all the time. You look at a crowd and, on average, it's just a sea of denim. I've started wearing slacks and skirts more often out of spite nowadays.

And I hate skinny jeans with a passion! Both trying them on and looking at someone else wearing them. Bring back all the bootcut and standard straight-leg jeans you little fashion designing jerks.

...

But, on the subject of teaching attire, a denim skirt would not be out of place. It's not like you're at a board meeting. I don't know if it'll stand out (and making an impression is necessary no matter what age-group you teach or what your career is because there are always a lot of people just like you gunning for the same job and no, results alone never count no matter how unfair that is), but I remember plenty of teachers wearing denim and denim skirts back when I was in school. So it should be okay.

Only if it's a denim skirt without leggings. And it's paired with a tied-off button shirt. And the boots are cowboy boots.

Otherwise fancy skirt + leggings + fashion boots is totally a city girl look.

Ok help me find cute boots like in the picture you just posted that will fit big calves and aren't eleventy-billion dollars. And a great return policy needs to be present because I need to be able to send them back if they don't fit.

How big around are your calves? Do you have a tape measure so I can know exactly? :P And can I have a real budget? Haha. Boots are expensive, it's true, but so worth it. I spent too much money on nice leather boots last year and I wear them all the damn time. Any stylistic things that you hate like buckles or straps or whatever?

I don't like them to look too cowboy-ish. I'm generally just fine with straps and buckles and stuff. Oh! And they can't have heels either. ;d A slight heel is fine but if they're too big then I can't handle wearing them for long periods of time and then I end up never wearing them and then I hate myself for spending money on boots.

My calves are a little over 19" and uhhhhhhhh I was making this face at boots that were $100. I would say $80 is my limit. >_>

PS: Buy all your boots on Black Friday or during the holidays. You will never find them cheaper. At my store, our $60+ boots go down to like $25 or $30. There's always a violent feeding frenzy.

You're tough man. These list a circumference of 18" and are $100? Haha I fail. Zappos does have free returns though.

Nordstrom's also has free returns. These are $100 and list a circumference of 16" but it has this elastic panel in the back so that it stretches. idk if it would stretch enough. But I've also read that Nordstrom's will stretch boots for you.

I dunnooooo you're a toughie!

Also there's a review on the Zappos ones that says she has a 17.6" calf and they didn't fit.. so that makes me think they would not do for a 19" calf. Sighhhhhhhhhh.

I found some on Avon.com!

Here's some low-heeled boots for about $45, and they're wide-calved!

EDIT: Here's a link to a bunch of affordable, wide-calf boots. Some are pretty cute, too!

A lot of them have that stretchy stuff in the back, so even though they say they're about 17", they can stretch some more. I saw a few 19" ones on there!

Also, what *kind* of skirts are you looking for? Do you like maxi skirts that are colorful or do you like solid colors or what. Cuz I found this maxi skirt and I think it's pretty dang cute but idk if you would like it.

That website also has boots!

I'm gonna stop procrastinating now. Maybe.

Those jean skirts look great on you! I really love them and I think it's a great and unique style. It's true that it's not something that is really "fashionable" but that's not something I've ever cared about. It looks super comfortable too and that's something I value as well.

Kissy where exactly do you shop for clothes? I'm confused by you not being able to find things that don't show cleavage and I've definitely seen options for more opaque stuff.. o.o Then again all we have here is Walmart and JCPenney.

I'm really picky on what I wear, so if I do find something that's not opaque or whatever, I think it's ugly and boring. Or it's too expensive.
I can never find anything I like at Walmart or JCPenny.
If I do find clothes, I usually find them at Khol's or Dress Barn.

The things I like generally tend to be on the expensive side. I don't know if it's just the style of it or something, but nothing I like is ever on sale. :C

I like things like this:
attachicon.gifScreen shot 2013-09-26 at 1.04.50 PM.png
attachicon.gifScreen shot 2013-09-26 at 1.06.02 PM.png
attachicon.gifScreen shot 2013-09-26 at 1.08.41 PM.png
attachicon.gifScreen shot 2013-09-26 at 1.09.36 PM.png

Pretty, fun things that are colorful and pretty and pretty.
All those things are $65+ T_T

Those all look a bit retro inspired, especially the last one. Have you ever thought about looking into some vintage clothing and/or rockabilly communities? I wonder if there might be some hidden knowledge in those niche groups about where to find inexpensive clothing with that type of 50s and 60s silhouette and length.

I do love retro clothing. I love the shape and the fullness of it, it's so classy and pretty.

Most of those were from Shabby Apple, which I would spend all of my money on if I could.

They have sales, but once it's on sale, they don't have my size, and it makes me sad. :C

And thank you, Hana. <3

SEE SOMEONE LIKES MY JEAN SKIRTS. XD
