Inside Out - Eve 6, from Eve 6

To me, this will always be the song that I knew by ehart and could recognize...but for the longest time never actually knew the name or artist. Blame it on the radio playing it all the time, I suppose, though it could've been a worse song.

Spoiler

No Leaf Clover - Metallica, from S&M

Fifth page - fifth Metallica song. The S&M coincert in and of itself was cool all around - Metallica AND a symphony playing at the same time? It's just a cool idea, even if they weren't the first to do it. The inclusion of original songs specifically made for playing by both groups at once is what made it really cool though, and that gives us this song. A song so good they play it on tour with a fake orchestra backing to try and replciate it. Still love it.

Crib/Rim Jobs Menu - Malcolm Kirby, Jr. from Saints Row The Third: The Soundtrack

So, been playing Saints Row IV, and it is awesome. SO in honor of that, a song from the last game....a song that's not licensed. As cool as the soundtrack is to these games, the oriignal stuff composed for the game is actually pretty cool too. I'm not the biggest fan of dubstep or trance or whatever, but I really dug the songs in The Third and so far like the ones in IV. Third Street forever.....though they haven't been to the Row since the second game...

Vengeance is Mine (Cash Cash RMX) - Jun Senoue, remixed by Cash Cash, from Sonic Generations Original Soundtrack: Blue Blur

Just a quickied. Just a cool little remix of an already catchy tune from Sonic Adventure 2 used in the handheld version of Sonic Generations.

Out of Time - Stone Temple Pilots featuring Chester Bennington, from....nothing really, just a single.

So, STP was great back in the day and is a staple of my road trip music, but unfortuantely, Scott Weiland can't seem to ever put the drugs down, so they kicked him out. So what did STP do? They got the guy from Linkin Park to sing for them in the meantime since they';re off right now. I have tos ay, it dopesn't sound like STP, but I kinda dig it.....after awhile anyway. Once the puzzled shock wore off, it's fine. I'd say hope for Weiland to get off the drugs, but unfortuantely, it doens't seem like he will. Alas...

While I still think the first album was the best, Skillet's always been pretty cool. Song's catchy enough and I can't complain.

Polyhymnia - Malcolm Kirby Jr, from Saints Row IV Original Soundtrack

I know I just did SR a few posts up, but I don't care, I am loving this game so much right now it's not even funny. I normally don't like dubstep - I hate it, actually - but this song is great. Part of it is ebcause this is what plays when you use the standard Dubstep gun in the game, but even without that it's kinda catchy. I like how the different styles of customization gives you different songs as well - the Industrial one's cool too, but I like this one the best.

I Hate Myself For Loving You - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, from Up Your Alley

While her speaking voice reveals her age, Joan Jett still looks freakishly younger then she actually is - I swear she murders young runaways at night and steals their youth. Anyway, she's still probably capable of kicking the ass of most current female rockers, and those she wouldn't are probably fans of hers anyway.

I was thinking of doing a whole bunch of themed songs in a row and I liked the idea, and I figured, sicne I'm on my "Finish XIII and XIII-2 even if it kills me" kick I'd do a song from every main Final Fantasy in a row....'till I realized that would be over 14 days, or two solid weeks, and that might run into fatigue. So meh, instead I'll just alternate - an FF song, then a rock song, and so on and so forth until I get to Final Fantasy XIV. I'm going to be shameless and use arrangements because...why not. Anyway, let's kick it off with...

Spoiler

Matoya's Cave - The Black Mages, from The Skies Above (Nobuo Uematsu from Final Fantasy Original Soundtrack)

It's a catchy and memorable tune from the very first game, albeit not the first one most people think of. I like thsi version for being a weird mix of acoustic and blues with the more typical Black Mages style of rock. Anyway, enjoy.

Spoiler

Rebel Army Theme - Nobuo Uematsu, from Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy

...okay, I'm cheating, this is technically just an excerpt from the Final Fantasy I, II, III Medley from the Distant Worlds album and concert series, but whatever. The Rebel Army Theme is my favorite song from the game, and this is my favorite version of it. If you're curious about the whole medly - which is pretty awesome - it's here.

Hey, it's time for a song from Final Fantasy III - the real one, not VI. So...

Spoiler

Their Spiritual Leader (Doga and Une's Palace) - Nobuo Uematsu, from Final Fantasy III: Eternal Legend of the Wind

Something a bit different from the typical arranged FF stuff. From way back in the day with the early arranged albums comes this gem. The narrator is a bit weird, I grant you that, and a little overdramatic and has a habit of stating the obvious, but it's a neat album all the same. It's kind of a shame that they stopped doing arranged albums by game after VIII, instead opting for PLUS soundtracks (IX, XIII, and XIII-2) and just putting the songs on compilations instead. Oh well, at las the Piano arranges came back.

Time for Final Fantasy IV, so...

Spoiler

Theme of Love - Nobuo Uematsu, from Final Fantasy IV: Celtic Moon

Rosa and Cecil's romance theme is nice enough as it is, but the various arrangements its recieved over the years really hlps bring it out. This one's a pretty one from way back.

Yeah, I know it's technically a cover, but whatever, have some Clapton for your Wednesday night. If I had a nighttime specific driving music playlist, this would be on it, not just ebcause of the obvious night connotations, but because it does help keep you up.

It's time! It's time! For FF Veeee...

Spoiler

Final Fantasy V Main Theme - Nobuo Uematsu, perf. by Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, from Orchestral Game Music Concert 2: The Best Selections

Long before Final Fantasy Anthology was released over here on the PSX, all I knew of Final Fantasy V was a couple of songs from this album, and it is that which sticks in my head. Dear Friends is a beautiful song, especially with the acoustic guitar, and there are some other fun ditties I'd eventually discover as I finally played the game, but the main theme rendered in this style willa lways be my favorite because it was my only known connection with th game for awhile. Helps that it's pretty grand and big as well.

Still my favorite of all the FF"s, it's time for VI.

Kefka - Nobuo Uematsu, from Final Fantasy VI: Grand Finale

Still a great version of the song - kinda wish they'd do an updated version for Distant Worlds, but I'll take what we have. Great villain theme as always, creepy and funny at the same time.

Numb/Encore/Yesterday - Linkin Park, Jay-Z, & Paul McCartney, from.....nothing, live performance.

Quite possibly one of the most unexpected mash-ups ever. Sure, LP and Jay-Z did their whole album, but throw Paul McCartney in there and it's just confusing. Mostly in here for the bizzareness of it all. Kinda wish Jay-Z quit singing when Paul came out though, the "Yeahs" and :Uh-huhs" kinda wreck an okay duet between him and Chester.

J-E-N-O-V-A(Final Fantasy VII) - Nobuo Uematsu, from Distant Worlds II: More Music from Final Fantasy

Not actually my favorite song from the game and not even my favorite version - I'm putting it in here mostly because I have to know - I'm not crazy right? This version of the song totally makes me think of surfing, those trumpets and drums sound like they're right out of Hawaii-5-0! Bah, whatever.

Hey! It's the game a lot of people hate but I actually really like a lot despite its flaws in (very) small part because way too many of its haters focus on really stupid stuff instead of the actual missteps and problems!

Spoiler

Blue Fields - Nobuo Uematsu, from Final Fantasy VIII: Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec

I admit, I actually really disliked the VIII overworld theme in the game. I was so disappointed in it since I actually dug the rest of the soundtrack, but once I heard this version I fell in love. I can just imagine myself walking through the big open fields of the world in a movie or whatever with this playing. It's sweet, slow, but very nice, and it made me appreciate the song much more. A little disappointed this never made it into the concert rotations, but alas.

Hey now, it's time for number nine...

Spoiler

Messenger of Destruction/Dark Messenger/The Darkness of Eternity - Nobuo Uematsu, from Final Fantasy IX.

It was a toss up between this and Vamo Alla Flamenco, and I went with the less obvious one. The Trance Kuja battle theme, besides sounding cool, also has a somewhat infamous name history. When the soundtrakc came out in Japan, the title was translated as either "Messenger of Destruction" or "Dark Messenger." Personally I prefered the former, but tohers liked the latter, and it was kind of a "fight" between which was correct. By the time the soudntrack cmae over here, on iTunes, as well as in Theathrythym, the debate was silenced with the winner being.....erm, "The Darkness of Eternity." Okay then.

Zanarkand (Final Fantasy X) - Nobuo Uematsu, from....no album, just the Tour de Japon DVD from about 8 years ago before it turned into the Dear Friends Concert series.

You know, in hindsight, it's pretty much just the story and characters that wasn't great about FFX, and even then a few of them could've worked fine if it had been tweaked slightly. Anyway, the music was always a strong point, and as obvious a choice as this song was, this version with the strings won it over for me. The piano original is nice too, but I am a sucker for the string section.
