Don't tackle it alone, Ransom. Don't. There will be ouchies and high repair costs.

I heeded your warning and decided to do something a bit safer. Some solo quests. Nothing with a blue name above there head can actually kill me right? I mean it should be all good!Don't tackle it alone, Ransom. Don't. There will be ouchies and high repair costs.
It was going so well until suddenly I was being raped by Half-orc Captain Awesome and his four guards.

repair costs and rage at the fucking Lone Lands spawn point ensued.

So a few months ago, I got hired at Turbine. I'm a QA tester for the company these days, with most of my time spent on Dungeons and Dragons online, but some of my time spent in Lotro. You have no idea how awesome it is to come here and find so many of my old friends playing a game I'm helping to make. And hopefully that'll increase; I'm in round 2 of interviews for a Systems Designer position on LOTRO on Thursday, so soon I may be the guy designing stuff like the Deeds, item stats, classes, etc.
Amusingly enough, my highest level character is 21, so many of you have seen more of the game than I have as a player. The experience as a QA tester is very, very different, hah.
- I can draw all enemies' attention to me within 10 metres. Although, Laz and I assaulted a level 29 troll and I couldn't turn him away from Laz. I don't know why.
Some enemies are immune to instant taunting. Not sure if this is one of those.
So yeah! If you have any problems with the game, complain about them here, and I can try to get them fixed. The smaller the problem, the more likely I can push a solution through. No promises, of course.
Showsni: The European version of the game will launch it's free 2 play servers one of these days, but you wouldn't be able to play with the same character or with everyone else, so it won't do you much good. I think you're pretty much out of luck in terms of getting any value out of the box you bought.
I can't play it. The free to play is only for Americans.
Husky: You can play on American servers. Just click the american flag on the website. Turbine doesn't care, or check. The only downside is that you might have higher latency than someone in America.

But that is awesome that you're working for these guys. Especially being able to design a bunch of the components inside the game. Very awesome.
Oh and also, there was a problem with the "Retaking Weathertop" quest. We were trying to share it with someone who has already completed it (I think they have, Darklink would have to confirm) but it kept giving us the pop-up to share a completely different quest that we had not clicked. I dunno if it was glitching or what but if they're in a Fellowship with us, are they still able to join in our instance quest even if they've completed it?

Anyways, I do have one question. I have a level 31 champion and my Clash of Swords and Flurry Skills keep switching from normal, fervor-based skills to skills that can only be triggered after I've killed an enemy. I don't recall reading anything like this in the description when I purchased the skills but even the help box descriptions change when the trigger conditions change. So maybe its working as intended and I just missed something, or there's something wrong there.
Back to game news. I just broke 6gold so I'm a day or two away from my house! Also, Harvest Festival is currently on. The list of activities on the splash page looks fun so let's take a look!

Rova, you need to get in and do some the trickster quest NAO. You can win yourself a Raven Mask.

Also, everyone do the beer quest. XD I think my character may now die shortly due to liver failure.
All the special items are bought with "Festival Tokens", which are earned from doing the festival quests.
Examples are:
- Using the correct emote in front of specifically selected npc's. (Trickster quest) Can be repeated every 3 hours.
- Completing a lap in a "horse race" within the specified time limit. Can be completed every 9 hours.
- Drinking 30+ beers at half a dozen Shire pubs within a time limit. Yep, it's a Pub Crawl....Race.
- Bobbing for apples, each of which is worth a certain amount of tokens depending on the size of the apple. Can be repeated every hour.
- Dancing with some Hobbit woman? I haven't done that one yet.
- Collecting vintage wines and ales from all over Middle Earth. Each errand can be completed every 9 hours.
- Haunted Burrow. This one is basically a new "dungeon" left behind by Bilbo, where Hobbits send you to find a list of items for them. It's crazy and easy to get lost but it's fun. You can only do one scavenger hunt at a time.
That's all I've come across so far. There are similar quests in the Shire, Bree, Thorin's Hall, and Ered Luin so plenty of points to rack up, should you find the time.

Make it so that no-one is immune if you're wearing a BITCHING HAT! XD Hats get everyone's attention.

The list of activities on the splash page ARE fun. Diel and I have been doing a couple and they are a good switch up from the normal game.

Having ran around Hobbiton looking for people to 'trick' and finding one sat on a dock with no indication of what to do, DL tells me that I have to emote, and after clicking the list of emotes for a while, many of which don't do anything, and nothing at all happens to the hobbit on the dock...

What the hell am I doing? There are real quests on my list to do. There are orcs out there that need death, orcs that give rewards. There is nothing at all in this festival that makes it worth my while.

As an example, the one on the dock says he is about to lose his temper. So use your "tantrum" emote.

I wish like LoS I had a job in the gaming industry, but as a translator... Turbine doesn't happen to be hiring Japanese-English translators? No? Didn't think so.
LoS: these things are totally out of your hands, but here's a little laundry list of reasons I would never, ever pay for LotRO
-Despite having less content and worse graphics, it is still about the same size on my HD as WoW
-Despite not having nearly the player base per server/realm/shard, and worse graphics, it is laggier than WoW. The only time I drop below 30 fps on WoW on my ancient computer (6+years) is when I'm in Dalaran, which is rather like saying "when I'm surrounded by hundreds of other players in a place the size of Bree, and all their pets, mounts, and casting animations". I have regular low frame-rates in LotRO, cannot have Firefox open in the background, and being at the festival grounds last night made the game unplayable.
-Other than outfits, most of which bore me to tears, there's not much character customization. You've got traits, and that's it. The virtue traits are all pretty much the same. Race and Class traits take a very very long time to get. Thusly, no feeling of customization, even if my Hunter is boasting uh...let's say Patience2, and another Hunter is digging Compassion3.
-Can player armor and outfits get any more boring? The environment colors are saturated, but players can only wear washed-out clothes? I get that we're not going to see some of the crazy WoW or Final Fantasy gear here, but...can I at least wear a deep purple? Other than my admittedly awesome hat, I've seen no one wearing anything that made me go "oh! awesome! I wanna wear that!".
-Actual itemization is poor. As an experienced MMO player, I looked at what attributes were good for my class, and tried to get armor accordingly. This, despite being a tailor, has been nigh impossible. I don't think I'm mistaken either. Hunters want agility, don't they?
-There's really no challenge. Combat is boring. WoW players joke about "lol facerolling", but I think in LotRO it might be true...
However! To bring some balance, here are reasons I play with Laz even though I won't pay for it and think in its current state it is an inferior product:
-I love Deeds. WoW has achievements, but you can see them in the UI right away. And while they have many many more of these things than LotRO, I love how many you can simply attain by going about your business. It gives each region a sense of completion. "I need to go back to the Shire later because I didn't finish that silly pie deed!".
-Although I think its implementation is inferior to that of Mabinogi, I do like that there is player-music in the game.
-Outfits. I love this concept, and it's well implemented to boot.
-Housing. I don't have one yet, but player housing is awesome in *any* MMO. It's also very rare. I love this. I just wish I didn't have to settle on only one type of house. I want a hobbit hole AND an elven home!
-I have mixed feelings about the profession system. I love the way it handles skilling up etc. I don't like having to choose a pre-set group of three, instead of mixing and matching how I like.

Yeah, it would be a strictly "this is my install for playing in America" and "this is my instal for playing in Europe." At least, I'm assuming I can just install it twice in two different folders... Or would one try to overwrite the other anyway?
(Well, there's always to other PC).
Haven't had much time to get on lately. I've been playing The Last Window: Secret of Cape West. (Sequel to Hotel Dusk).
I got a game over because I tried to rewind a cassette tape all the way to the beginning. A game over. I felt that was a little harsh. (Not to mention the gameovers for failing to answer the 'phone because I'm talking to somebody else, dropping a piece of glass on the floor, and choosing the wrong brand of glue).

Yays!:
Got a deluxe house (4 Stonemirk Street, Thorin's Hall Homesteads, I forget the neighborhood)
I'm back to VIP level by registering my Shadows of Angmar code!
Nays!:
I'm broke as hell (house cost me almost seven gold, leaving me with 5 silver afterwards)
House is empty (I'm teh broke ;-

I have a mortgage (150 silver to maintain my house ;-

Unfortunately school's been riding my ass so I haven't had a lot of time to play recently. When I have found the time, I've been taking advantage of the Harvest Festival. Those Raven Cloaks seem to be in demand so I'm stockpiling those to sell when they're out fo season for a healthy markup. Also, I've been harassing hobbits on behalf of the Ale Association. The Ale Association and the Inn League are basically two rival factions and as you improve your reputation with one, you simultaneously ruin it with the other. I'm trying to work my way up to kindred status with the Ale Association so I can buy their unique mount that sports some ale kegs of which it periodically partakes.
As a Kinship, we're nearing our first month, after which we get Kinship Mail, which I believe just gives us a discount on mail to other kinship members. At 3 months we can purchase a Kinship House, which will be at 5 Stonemirk Street, Thorin's Hall Homesteads, if any of you want to take a look. Damn things cost around 14 gold that I'll have to pay for. I'll eventually set up a sort of drop box for people to stash items to be sold to help pay for the Kinship house and for general item sharing/etc in one of the chests in my house.
Fun times, lol.
Speaking of fun times, since I know you're all wondering,
This is what the world looks like after about 30 beers:
