^ Yeah, most re-makes suck.
I don't so much mind a faithful re-release of a game onto a newer system, but I'm turned off when the developers start to 'update' things.

Although, there are those cases that it is acceptable even if the game is just like the original. Chrono Trigger for one was never available over in the Eurozone, so I (and I think several other people) where quite happy to see that the game finally made it over here. But that wouldn't qualify as a remake as it is the actual release in those countries. ^_~"

A remake can sometimes be a good thing if the original is hopelessly outdated and nearly inaccessible to newcomers. Try playing Metroid Fusion or Super Metroid and then go back and play the original. Seems like a giant leap backwards, doesn't it? Thus, Zero Mission was created to fix problems with the level designs of the original, update the graphics, and make the storyline more coherent (no more tiny Kraid).
Something similar could be done with the NES Zelda games, kind of like the original plans for the Oracle games.

I've long fantasized about a Final Fantasy Origins-style enhanced remake of the first Zelda game. Later games don't need them, but I'd love to see how the original story would be told with the technological possibilities not available at the time.
