...In six days time.

http://www.smashbros.com/

It'll probably be about five days when most of you read this. Yes, I know, this topic at the moment serves very little purpose, and the Nintendo homepage could have told you this, but I don't care, I just wanted to get in there early.

I have a crazy adoration for the Super Smash Bros. series.

That was awesome. Of course, it's only my massive patience that makes it so. I feel sorry for people who simply cannot wait for this, because I can still feel a bit of that myself.

Excitmement and over-hype ruins everything. ^^ I think I would feel more excited if I actually had a Wii. But still, SSB is aweome. Hope they reveal a new character.

That's what I'm afraid of. But I'm looking forward to other games over this, it helps calm you down. But SSBX was never something to be hyped about. In my case, at least.

You need to choose when to hype something. TP was overhyped, because, well, OoT is overhyped. Most sequels are overhyped often because the *original* games are overhyped.

However, this game could simply be Melee with a few extra characters and I wouldn't give a monkeys. I can tell effort is being put into this game. It'll show, and even if it doesn't, it's designed around the Melee gameplay engine so it's pretty much impossible for it to be bad.

Touch wood.

Now that just ain't possible. I know Superman64 was bad, just by looking at the screenshots. That age old cartridge full of junk won't and never will hold a candle to Brawl.

...dammit, Fyxe, you tease.

Even if it is overhyped, it's still SSB, and if there is even close to the same amount of improvement between SSBM and SSBB that there was between SSB and SSBM then the hype will be worth it.

Dude, trying to make yourself come across more legitimate and in-the-know after the fact just has the opposite effect.

Whatever the case, cool, though I'm guessing this is going to be a horribly disappointing update - much like SE's announcement that we're getting Parasite Eve 3.

....on cell phones. Blech.

It could be worse. It could be PS3.

On a more serious note I wouldn't be surprised if we see an actual update.

-SSBB website apparentally went offline for a overhaul and now has a timer counting down to 4 days time.
-Hideo Kojima apparentally already playtested it and in his opinion its already good to be released if they wanted to. Its nothing more than tweaking the game and hyping up now pretty much.

It's going to be a set of major updates leading up to release when they do the overhaul - much like what they did with Melee's website in Japan. They've done this before, and they said they were planning to do it again, so this is the start of it.

Sety, where did you hear that the game is 'good to be released'? That sounds a bit fishy to me, I know they've been working on it for awhile now and it already had the basic game engine in place, but it seems a bit swift for them to have effectively done everything. Playtesting and 'tweaking' takes a loooong time and never really stops until release. I suppose it's possible for them to have all the characters and stages implimented, but the idea that there's nothing but a few tweaks here and there is a bit much. It's a fighting game - there's a lot of variables to deal with.

Anyway, I don't think people should expect the jump that Melee offered the series. If Brawl was that much of a jump from Melee, it would take them years to do such a thing - Melee had an incredible amount more than the original game had, most of the game was new stuff, if they added the same amount to Brawl, it'd take forever. No, I expect Brawl to simply be what Soul Calibur III was to Soul Calibur II. I think the jump is going to be more on that sort of scale.

Hm, maybe a bit more than that, SCIII wasn't THAT much different from II... Brawl already looks set to add a whole chunk of new stuff.

Oh well, lets just wait and see, personally I'd pay for Melee with the five new Brawl characters and the new stages alone and I'd be happy. Huzzah for Pit and Meta Knight.

*shudder* I hope not. From what I heard, SCIII was utter crap. If that's how Brawl ends up, I'll might actually write a complaint letter to Nintendo.

Kojima (that Metal Gear dude) said it. He got a chance to play it a few weeks ago and said it was already solid enough to be released and do well.

http://kotaku.com/ga...nion-255724.php

The game already feels very complete, it's already a lot of fun and that you guys (Sakurai's studio) could put it out now, and it would sell millions of copies.

Another version I read just in case you want another source.

Kojima: SSBB Looks 'Very Complete'

Metal Gear Solid creator and head of Kojima Productions Hideo Kojima recently had a chance to play the latest build of Nintendo's upcoming Super Smash Brothers Brawl and came away impressed with its progress.

Kojima is quoted as saying in a recent podcast that the hotly anticipated Wii brawler feels "very complete" and that if Nintendo wanted to, the game could be released tomorrow.

Kojima and SSBB director Masahiro Sakurai brawled at the Snake Vs. Zombie event in Japan, held earlier this month. Kojima naturally chose Solid Snake as his character, while Sakurai took Mario as his fighter. Kojima said he had to take it easy on Mario due to the mustachioed plumber's friendly appearance.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl does not yet have an official release date.

Source: CVG

Reason you might not have heard of it is because the Nintendo showing was a unscheduled informal visit, on impulse if you like.

From what I heard, SCIII was utter crap.

It wasn't, it was just very similar to SCII with a few spiffy extra things (character creation being a big one, and a more in-depth story mode). The fact that it remains so similar to SCIII means it couldn't possibly be utter crap - I've played it, it isn't, unless you think SCII was utter crap, but it wasn't, so that's moot.

Interesting words from Kojima. I think he's overegging it slightly - he is prone to being more than a little overenthusiastic about anything Nintendo (he's a big fan). But I'll take his word for it that it 'feels complete', but I expect if he played it for longer he'd find that there's plenty of stuff left for them to do to make it a properly polished game (I would be surprised if they rushed the release).

If he thinks it feels complete, that's a good sign for the quality of the finished product.

SCIII is a perfectly good, fine game - it's just that it's more of the same rather then a big jump over SCII, though in that regard SCII was the same thing to SC. Neither was the huge leap that occured between Soul Edge/Blade and Soul Calibur. SCIII was only funky because it was designed for home consoles first, so some of the game got wacky before they balanced it out in the arcade edition. The only niggling thing is that, while the backgrounds and stages are superb and beautiful, if you played either the X-Box or Gamecube version of SCII, the character models took a small but noticeable hit in quality - the faces for one just aren't nearly as expressive as the ones in SCII and even seem a little "flatter" in comparison.

If the site is set to automatically update on the hour, then the site should update in an hour's time.

If not, it'll be sometime in the morning Japan time.

After all this wait, it'll probably be just a fancy new layout and nothing else or something. ¬,¬

I don't want to get too excited over Brawl...and I really don't want to know too much about it until the game comes out! Any more character info would ruin the game: It was one thing to show who they did, including Snake, but it would be a lot more fun to wait for the game, and see the character menu in person, to see just how many empty slots there are, than for them to show every non-hidden character now. Same goes with the stages; we've seen enough, all we need to do now is wait.
