EDIT: I would really call Kaplan a big NOA exec... she's just a PR person after all so it's not really "big" like vice president of marketing big. That said we can listen to her since she's a big company "representative"
Oh I know, by "big" I meant within the context of the industry. They're obviously people higher up on the NOA chain of command, but in terms of news/E3/Nintendo/etc, Kaplan and Reggie are the only important ones. =P
EDIT - I was going to add a picture to this thread, but the uploading on this board sucks. Oh well...

Seriously, I don't care what it's called, I'm going to get one. I just hope the name doesn't adversely affect sales.

Wii or Revolution. True, Revolution sounds better. However, I don't think either are marketable names. Since Nintendo, has decided on Wii, I suggest a very hard maketing campaign and decent sized library of games available for launch--and I don't just mean downloadable classics.
Somehow I doubt that's gonna happen, especialy here in Europe. Nintendo hasn't really been renowned for its advertisements.

This is nintendo kicking itself in the butt. or the wii. they will be pounded by the competitors/assholes, and is totally unmarketable. When they said they would change their name, I thought it would be resonable! This sucks uber....

I've even been co-erced to have "We are the nerds who play... Wii!" in my MSN Messenger name, all because the name Wii reminded someone of the Knights of Ni.

I'd also like to know how some people can be so assuming as to know exactly what consumers will like and respond to. The fact is you don't know. You're spouting off opinions from the point of view of a gamer. And, if I recall correctly, Nintendo isn't interested in marketing just to gamers anymore.
The way I see it, it all boils down to this: you can hate the name as much as you want. You can despise it. Spit on it. Set it on fire and throw it off a bridge. But if you're posting in this forum, on this topic, then that means you're at least half-interested in seeing what their system is capable of.
None of you here are stupid. Perhaps some are impulsive, but none stupid. So just everybody relax. Let the name sink in. Ponder it for a few minutes and then get on with the rest of your day.

They've been trying quite hard with the DS, to give them some credit... All that in touch with original comedy stuff...Somehow I doubt that's gonna happen, especialy here in Europe. Nintendo hasn't really been renowned for its advertisements.
Not in the UK. Which makes it especially bad...Actually you'd have to double the name first
I'm sure most of us don't really care too deeply, and the name wouldn't stop me buying it. "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet," and all that. But it's still an... odd choice. All of you doomsayers need to calm the hell down. The announcement was barely made. Give it a chance to breathe for a change, perhaps walk around a little.

Sink in? How is thinking about it going to make the name better? It's terrible! Laughable even.

Your opinion isn't the problem. The repetition of it is. Ok. We get it. You don't like the name. Boo hoo. If you don't have anything new to say then why are you still submitting posts?So....... I should not post any opinion at all? Interesting strategy.

So if by hating the name "Wii" and thinking Nintendo has gone off the deep end shows that were interested in the system. Well that's certainly interesting.
And if Nintendo isn't interested in marketing to gamers, then what are they doing? They're alienating gamers, who've kept them alive for 20 years, and at the same time trying to appeal to non-gamers who, by definition, won't be drawn to a gaming console (let alone one called "Wii")? What an excellent business decision.

Sorry. We'll never make fun of an obviously funny name again. Bah, lighten up.
*and from way above* Knights Who Say Wii? This may be a marketing strategy they might actually be able to use! XD

It's been said before, but at least people will be talking about it, and though I'm not to fond of the apple rip off colour scheme (give me bright purple any day) if they pump enough money into it, it would be a strange and wonderful marketing strategy full of glorious puns!
Oh, and the fan boy inside me is getting up tomorrow morning to post A5 versions of these around my uni, on all the notice boards, around the Games Design department, and especially above urinals.
