And Link and Zelda allready seem to know each other at the beginning of ALttP. That is why Oracles and LA come before ALttP in my Timeline Theory.
"Link... my name is Zelda...". Sounds like an introduction to me. If they knew each other previously, she would say something like "Link, it's me, Zelda!".

On the fourth day the Hero met with Princess Zelda again at the sanctuary. There she insisted to come along for the last part of this quest so that she could translate the Ancient Stone tablets and solve their riddle. Thus the hero protected Princess Zelda as she joined the search for the seventh Stone Tablet. Upon finding it, the hero was advised to venture into the woods and claim the Master Sword. The Legendary Blade was supposed to sleep forever, yet it stirred as the people of Hyrule once again prayed for a savior. Destiny had strayed from its path, Hyrule's fate once again linked to another world. And the sword was awakened one more time to right this wrong.
So, was it not supposed to be drawn? Does that make this a gaiden ... or mean something about what was meant to happen ... not happening. Like... an alternate universe where destiny wasn't followed. So... I'm just toying now (jatiatw)... but what if in the "destined" reality the sword did sleep forever, and so Ganon broke free or got resurrected or what have you and set the scene for LoZ?

Actually, she says "My name is Zelda." when she contacts Link's Uncle prior to Link waking up. When Link actually gets to her cell, she greets him by name and talks as if their familiar. And I know because I just played the intro of ALttP yesterday.

Where as in the US version of ALttP, Zelda says. "Thank you Link. I thought I sensed you coming." How could she sense him coming if she didn't know what his psychic presence felt like? They are obvioulsy familiar.

Even if they didn know each other before the start of aLttP, that doesn't mean another game had to come before it - after all, Link's Uncle might have had constant contact with the Royal Family, being a member of the Knights bloodline and all. Link could have been raised as a childhood friend of Zelda's, like in tMC.

Hey, it is possible. Especially considering that I doubt Capcom knows the story like Miyamoto does.
