You can't really expect anything less from it as they're both set in a sort of Fantasy Medieval time period. However personally I don't really mind the look, and the fact is the LotR games never looked or played as good as this it seems.Another thing I like, is the bosses and the lens of truth and the dragons. But, they seem to be going very Sony with this, LOTRification.

Since it comes out later this year, and Reggie himself said the game would launch this holiday season, my guess is either...
A) A worldwide release around the same time (only happened once, with OoT)
or
B) The game is released in Japan in October or November, with the American version coming out in December.
I mean, if the final version will be ready at E3 this year, then what else, besides localizing the game for American and European gamers, will Nintendo be doing for the six months between E3 and the holidays?

My local stores all tell me that it's shipping in early October, but I've found that every single person who sells video games withing forty miles of my house is a liar. I have never once been told the truth by any of them.
"Do you have a used PS2?"
"No, we ran out of those around last week. If you sold us one, we'd have it."
"But you just told that man you've got ten in the back."
"Yeah, he's not getting one, either. Want a Mario-shaped Lollipop instead?"
"OK."
"Too bad."
But I digress. In those six months, Nintendo will be making us wait for it. Not as evil as deliberately undershipping, but evil none the less.

Zelda + GCN realistic graphics = a game that looks like LOTOR because there's no other way it can look.
Don't be ridiculous. Even if this game WAS photorealistic (which it's not, and obviously not even attempting to be), there would still be plenty of room for it to differentiate itself from LOTR. For all practical purposes, there is infinite room for stylistic variety among fantasy worlds. One just haas to compare the world of Warcraft to that of Fable, or LOTR itself, or Zelda: OoT, or MM. All of these are set in pseudo-medieval times, none of them are trying to be celshaded cartoons like tWW, and yet none of them are really alike at all. Even OoT and MM, who used most of the same graphics models, managed two wildly different styles.
But this? This trailor seems to lack any sort of distinctive or good style at all, to me. It just comes off as a LOTR-wannabe.

While I had previously been as disappointed as l-o-s, this new trailer has restored my faith a bit. In the old trailer, Link was fighting what was clearly a Balrog, and riding that horse (which is a stupid, boring animal) far too much. It flet like a bad LOTR rip-off, and had convinced me that Nintendo had sold out.
This new trailer changed all that. The wolf scene and the ghost scene would not have been as effective using TWW graphics, no matter how much I love them. This is the appropriate style for this game. I look forward to the contrast of Young Link with bright graphics in one game, only to grow up and have pseudo-realistic graphics. It works well. I especially like the giant, reminds me of MM.
Though if we never get another cel-shaded 3D game, I will be mad.

The entire neo-RPG Hero's quest with angry green monsters Paradigm is ripping of LotR, it's been that way forever. OoT was too, you know that. Compare Rivendell, whose Elven inhabitants are protected and preserved by a powerful magic in their forest home, to the Kokiri Forest, whose Elven inhabitants are protected and preserved by a powerful magic in their forest home.
LotR rocks extremely hard.
They almost only show large battle sequences in this trailer because, really, people don't care about story or anything, they buy it because they want to kick ass. This also helps it look like LotR, which was largely popular not because of the cinematography, acting, or story, but because it contained more digitally-enhanced ass-kicking per frame (DEAK/FIB) in it's battle sequences than anything else.
Looking like LotR and having a lot of fighting in the trailer and early images is inevitable.
