we know that sheik is zelda in diguise, but when zelda becomes sheik, does she actually become a guy? i think that when she uses magic to change herself, her body actually changes into a male body. notice that sheik's chest is rather square, his arm muscles look musculine, and the eye changes color from blue to red. in early development sheik's eyes were green, but they were changed to red in order to be the same as the other sheikah in the game, impa. this also supports that zelda physically changes into a sheikah. one thing that implies that zelda is actually just wearing a costume it the head thingie. why would sheik hide so much of his/her face if he/she wasn't still pysically zelda? maybe its just to make the character more mysterious. and just for reference, a pic:

I think it's a glamour. It is actually Zelda, just to the eye and touch (think "Shallow Hal") it's Sheik who is a man. Strange, yes.

EDIT: You just reminded me of how cool Sheik is and made me want to play a game AS Sheik. Just great.

Since Sheik is Zelda, Shiek is a female in a male's skin.

Well, when you see Ruto in the Water Temple, she says that she was rescued by a young man if I remember correctly. I wonder if that is a hint that Sheik is Zelda, but in a male form.

To me Sheik still kind of looked like Zelda. It's something about the face.

Ruto does refer to sheik as a young man, but on some parts it seemed like Sheik was a female. Remember the scene at the well, Sheik either has a high voice or is just female.

Sheik is female but the way the custome was made I think Zelda intended to potray herself as a boy.

What is gender anyways? Is it defined by what's between our legs? Our hormones? Or is there some deeper pschological meaning to the word?

No, there's not. You're either born a boy or a girl, and that's what you really are. No exceptions.

And personally, I think that it's still Zelda in there, just under the "Shallow Hal" thoery, as Zythe mentioned. She probably based herself upon some old portraits of the Sheikah, or even one of somebody actually named Sheik...

Yeah, that would make sense as well. Maybe she wanted to look like a boy to fool Ganondorf and everyone else. I do think that Sheik does have a lot more muscle then Zelda. I said she might have took the form of a boy. That doesn't mean that she isn't still a girl mentally.

And where do hermaphrodites fit in?

Personally, I think it's a magical transformation. When Zelda reveals herself, she doesn't just take off her mask; she eminates blinding golden light, and is instantly a female.

Hermaphrodites like to hang out at the Happy Mask Shop.

About the transformation thing, good point. Kind of like in WW, when she transformed from Tetra to Zelda.

Hey now, this isn't a convo in Life about the deeper meanings of boys/girls/in-betweens. ;)

I figure Sheik's just Zelda with a glamour, as said before. She didn't have much chest to begin with, and it isn't hard to tape it down. Of course she had to hide her identity from Ganondorf, and that's about all there is to it. Even if she looks fairly muscular and we know she's strong- the girl was raised by Impa, after all- and she knew being weak would only get her killed.

Not that any of her strength mattered in the end, cause no one woulda stood for her fighting alongside Link in the final battle, eh? XP

She didn't change genders really. It is just really her pretending to be a man.

Even though she did in TWW... as much as wandering around shooting easily block/dodgable arrows that are useless anyway can be considered "fighting."

Yeah..plus, other then taping down her chest..she could easily wear contacts or a spell to change her eye color. The blinding light was probably so we wouldnt see her naked as she changed into her Zelda clothes XD XD XD I dont think..she would change her gender just to preserve her 'game' I figure it was just..a disguise of clothing and such.

I take it off as Zelda just trying to throw herself as a boy, like some have mentioned. She needed a disguise, something that would hide her from the Evil King, and Impa realized this, and most likely taught her Shiekah magic. Ganondorf was looking for Zelda, and probably would have never suspected the shiekah named Shiek who looked like a guy to actually be the Princess Zelda. It sounds a bit odd, but really the princess is nothing more than a crossdresser.

Look at the official art, and the in-game stuff. Zelda has narrow shoulders, Sheik has wide shoulders and narrow hips. For that to just be 'glamour' is a skeletal impossibility.
believe me, if sheik were a taped-down girl, i'd have noticed straightaway. ever since DragonSlayer I'm always on the lookout for that stuff.
then again, there is still the voice.. but anime dudes have voices like that all the time. XD

Maybe it's just the power of the ToW. After all, she would already have it at this point, correct?

LOL! I knew it!

This is one of those things no one can tell, but IMO, she actually, (ick,) had a sex change, or at least a body change. You know, Zelda IF she'd been born a guy. Her skin color, eye color, HEIGHT, (no one's noticed?) shoulders, and build are all different.

Sex change. Yep. Magic'll do it for you.

she's not flat, her dress is just loose around the tummy.

i agree, because the triforce on zelda's hand glows when she transforms back.

maybe its like the sailor starlights in sailor moon sailor stars (anime, not manga) where they are girls when they're sailor senshi, but when they become regular people they turn into guys physically and actually act and think like boys, like an alter ego. wait, thats the exact word they usually use when talking about sheik in ssbm! maybe sheik is a completely different person seperate from zelda, with different thoughts and fellings, but they are the same person!

Now THAT's a little extreme. It's fairly obvious that whatever Shiek is, it's Zelda desperately trying to stay under wraps. One person, whether bodies were shifted or not.

But wouldn't he have felt the ToW emenating from her? I base this off of in TMC, Vaati mentions that he feels some of the power still in Zelda. True, she could have shown him some of it, but it still remains to be seen whether or not other triforce holders can sense someone else that holds a piece, kind of like how in Highlander the Series, each immortal could tell when another was nearby.

I know, a lame example, but I thought it applied nicely here. :)
