It just goes to show, it's not about wanting kids to spend more time outside. It's about wanting kids to have the same interests as them.
I am pretty sure this is precisely it.
One elder on facebook, who I usually like but sometimes disagree with, asked why kids don't just play things like baseball or red rover anymore. And how she's prefer it if all her grandkids either crafted or read books. She doesn't like when people argue on her posts, so I'm going to leave it. But seriously. Parents barely allow their kids outside. It's not the kids. Kids would be happy to run around and play if left to their own devices. It's in their nature. But they can't do any of those things if nervous paranoid parents never let them be free outside.
