OK, make or break question:

Should I watch weekly or just let it build up and binge? Leaked episodes aside, this is a matter to consider because although I love the week by week excitement, cliffhangers can be an absolute killer. I'm leaning towards weekly watching but I figured I'd take a poll on the matter.

I mean, you're gonna have to wait til like June, and if you're someone who doesn't like spoilers that's a long time to try to avoid them. But if you don't care then sure go for it. :P

The last leaked episode ends on a preeeetty big cliffhanger. For two characters, at least.

I am unfortunately very aware of which characters you're talking about. I'm hoping that'll be the end of my spoiled plot lines for GoT.

Oh. Well, other than that, there aren't many other "OMG" cliffhangers. Everything's mostly setup or building action or boobs right now.

Still, as much as everyone likes to binge and as handy as it is there is something to be said for watching it the "right" way. There's always something to look forward to, and you can dodge spoilers without sticking your fingers in your ears and going "Lalalala" all the time.

Honestly even for Netflix shows or shows I have on disc I'll watch 2 or 3 at most before walking away. It's tempting but it's nice to take the time to pause and really think about what just happened.

I'm with DJ. There is very much a beauty to wondering what will happen next, and making your own theories, instead of immediately consuming the next bit.

I'm not. Give me Netflix-style binging or give me death. :victory:

The only negative thing I can say about watching all 4 of those episodes at once is it's hard for me to remember what happened in which episode so I don't know what to talk about now rofl. I guess that's what wiki summaries are for. :P

Oh I forgot to ask: was this the first time the shadow of Stannis has been mentioned since Renly's death?

Because no one seems to talk about the hellish birthing ceremony. Is it not sufficiently weird the would-be-King's right-hand woman vagina-farted the smoke monster from Lost? This should be a big deal.

My impression is that pretty much nobody knows about it other than Stannis, Mel, and Davos so I don't expect anyone to be referencing it. Most people think Brienne killed Renly.

Yeah, nobody knows about shadow-assassin except for those who were directly involved. And I'm pretty sure it just vanished after doing the deed, so there's no evidence to clear Brienne's name. Davos doesn't trust Mel as far as he can throw her, though.

That said, there's a single Melisandre POV chapter in the most recent book which I found pretty interesting. It definitely sounds like she believes she's a champion of goodness, and that everything she does is meant to be the "right thing" in her eyes. As opposed to her just using Stannis for personal gain.

Hmm, then colour me a little disappointed. I was sort of hoping she was a fraud and had an ulterior motive. Like working for the white walkers or something.

Ah well, that leaves just good old Roose Bolton on my 'I hope they get away with it' list.

That one episode where she talks to Stannis's wife and kid makes Mel suddenly seem awesome to me. Where she admits that most of her potions are tricks to trick people into believing in the right thing, and is a "gnostic badass" (a friend's words) in her lecture to Shireen. I used to dislike her, but now she seems legit.

I think Mel's very creepy but very interesting, both on the show and in the books. Her POV chapter was one of my favorites in ADWD. I wouldn't call her one of my favorite characters. But she's certainly interesting.

This isn't technically a spoiler, but rather a theory on some stuff in the books, so read at your own discretion:

Spoiler

Rewatched episode 2 'cause it was on tonight. I'm surprised that they brought "Jaqen" back for Arya's training. He's somewhere else in the books. But I guess you can argue that Arya's trainer isn't really the dude from Season 2. He's just another guy using the Jaqen-mask.

Episode 3! Rewatched to refresh my memory.

Oh, Stannis. Nobody ever wants to follow you. Shame that for all your competence, you have the personality of a wet dishrag. The scene with Arya and Needle was very well executed, I thought. Especially with the strategic "The North Remembers" music / Stark theme. And Margaery. She is a goddamn smooth operator. Her back and forth with Cersei is always fun.

And Sansa. You are a tragic song that never ends. But hopefully you'll kill Ramsay and take back the North.

What do you think Cersei wants from Littlefinger?

Book spoilers below. The show writers revealed why they changed Sansa's arc.

I LOVED this episode. Man.

I've been rooting for Sansa to snap and murder everyone around her since season 2, so it'd be so perfect to see it finally happen. Although Ramsay's harem seems to have something to say about it, don't they. And yes I can't wait for Theon and Sansa to interact. Ohhhhh man. I know it's different from the books but it's a very exciting plot point.

I know I'm probably wading into dangerous water by daring to do this, but I'm choosing to be slightly hopeful about Sansa's new storyline. I mean, this is LF we're talking about, he's not gonna dump his most prized chest piece in the middle of batshit crazy town and fuck off to nowhere without having a lot of safeguards and plans in tact, yeah? And that one servant lady with "the North Remembers"?? I feel like there's about to be some awesome shit going down and fuck me I hope I'm not wrong because I know this is GoT we're talking about, king of the lets-put-as-much-rape-in-this-show-as-we-can, but... idk. THIS IS ALL I HAVE, DON'T TAKE THIS FROM ME T_T

I can't handle the horrific shit that happened to Jeyne happening to Sansa, so if it goes in that direction I'll probably just go into another room and have Ben tell me what happened. :s

Anyway...

I don't quite remember the circumstances surrounding LF's flight from King's Landing last season. Isn't he highly suspicious for just fucking off right after Joffrey died? And that Sansa disappeared at the same time too? Maybe all of his HEY EVERYONE WE'VE GOT SANSA HERE, SANSA, YOU KNOW SANSA STARK? SHE'S WITH ME, I HAVE THE LAST OF THE STARKS RIGHT HERE finally caught up with him and Cersei heard about it. But if that's the case I feel like she'd do more than just send him a letter, I don't know.

Cersei had dispatched him to go marry Lysa -- with the intent of forging an alliance between the Lannisters and the Vale -- so that's his alibi for disappearing shortly before the wedding. Her letter was originally meant for the Eyrie (how it ended up in Winterfell is ????). So she might be calling on him to rally his troops, should Dorne try something? I don't know.

I am very hopeful for Sansa, too. There's way more hints at Stark loyalists sticking around Winterfell in the TV show. Makes it seem like they'll rise up for her. I'm pretty sure that's the direction they're heading. I think Littlefinger's hedging his bets on a revolution for Sansa, actually. He's technically in charge of the Riverlands now (via Harrenhal). And he's got the Vale. If he gets Sansa in charge of Winterfell, he presumes that he can use her as a puppet and have the North on his side. That would make him the most powerful lord in Westeros.

...

UNTIL SHE SHANKS HIS ASS.

Because think of Sansa's sheer potential power once Littlefinger's dead.

  • She controls the North.
  • Stannis will back her claim because he wants a Stark in Winterfell, so that's Team Dragonstone on her side.
  • The Vale would support her either due to family ties (Lysa), and/or 'cause Robin's sweet on her.
  • The Riverlands would support her due to family ties, should Edmure get put back in charge.
  • Her girlfriend Margaery likely wouldn't let anything bad happen to her, so she might even get the goddamn Reach on her side.
  • Dorne's neutral and only worried about the Lannisters.

Any faction that wouldn't overtly support her would at least be neutral. That means her only real enemies are the Lannisters and Freys -- the former already dealing with a ton of shit, and the latter being pretty inept without Tywin's backing. That's an extremely powerful position after everything's that happened.

...All hail the Queen in the North!

The Boltons being in Winterfell is just wrong.

I think he had already left for the Vale before the wedding, so no one would have known about him sneaking back to save Sansa.

Boltons can go suck down a huge chode. Just saying. That family is the only one I hate more than the Lannisters. And yes, I've also considered Walder Frey as well on the Chode sucking list.

Ohhhhhh riiiiiiight I forgot skipping off to the Vale and marrying Lysa wasn't all his idea. Ok. Now idk what the hell Cersei wants, if that's even where he's going. Could all be a cover for something else. o3o

I'm glad I'm not the only Sansa fangirl that wants her to be queen of everything forever.

...

DAQUEENINDANORF!!

The only thing that trips me up is someone important (idk who, but don't think it was GRRM) said there's a "controversial chapter" for Sansa in the books and we have no idea what that means. I just hope it's not something-bad-happens-to-her controversial and rather she-does-something-bad controversial. I don't know. Sansa's actress talked about filming a "traumatic" scene too, so that worries me. :s

I think the new catchphrase between my dad, Washu, and I has been "Poor Sansa" since we started watching the show and reading the books.

My husband hasn't read the booms so he's quite gleeful that he and I are now almost on the same footing concerning spoilers.

Like with the end part of this week's episode. Which Queen did he mean?! I don't know anymore because I can't trust my book knowledge!

It's gotta be Dany. I highly doubt they'd send Tyrion all the way over there with Varys and all the foreshadowing about meeting Dany just to send him straight back. It wouldn't be like GRRM evil, it would just be dumb.

edit: Jorah could be capturing Tyrion because Cersei has a warrant out for him, but bringing him to Dany to use as a bargaining chip or something like that.

I've been thinking of this and the only person I can come up with is maybe Stannis? I can't remember if he'd fucked off by the time Ned was taken prisoner or not. The only other person it could be that's still in Westeros is Cersei.
