Hot damn! I will be all over both of those if they get a Europe release.

Nintendo are on a roll with their emails to me - if I register Majora's Mask on Club Nintendo before the end of the month they'll send me a Skull Kid figurine! Awesome.

And now I've realised I never talked about the NN3DS.

nn3ds.jpg

nn3ds-compare.jpg

The size is noticeably larger than the original 3DS but it's still annoyingly smaller than a DSi. The DSi was the sweet spot and is the most comfortable iteration of them all for me. The NN3DS is better than the first 3DS at least. It's also more comfortable for virtual console games.

The C-stick I'm not sure about. It's got an abrasive surface and I imagine will take some getting used to. Obviously I haven't experimented with it too much as they're no games yet, so we'll see once MM arrives.

On the whole though I haven't been bothered about the reduction in screen size coming from an XL and I think I will end up loving this little guy! I was gonna buy the Luigi faceplates but will now wait for those Zelda ones.

I was thinking that since the normal model New 3DS isn't coming out in America, I'd be satisfied just getting the Majora's Mask Edition.

Spoiler

Evidently, I was wrong.... =/

I would trade my MM3DS in for an American Black small 3DS and the faceplate on the right in a FUCKING HEARTBEAT.  :(

I nearly threw my hands up into the air and shouted "What the fuck are you doing, Nintendo!?" when I saw that not only were we not getting the regular-sized NN3DS, but also that the XL version didn't have the interchangeable backplates. With all the new personalization options that the regular 3DS has already with more coming by the day, it comes across as a little backhanded to us Westerners. Part of the reason I was looking for the Majora's Mask edition was so I wouldn't have something so plain for once, and it's my favourite game of all time, so hey.

Still so bummed I won't get the MM New 3DS.  :(  I know I sound like a whiny loser, but it was such a major downer not to get one.

At least I got the game though.

Now I'm also in total old fogey mode:  "You dang kids!  I liked Majora's Mask when it came out in 2000 and everyone else was all like 'aw, this game sucks there's a time limit' and now suddenly everyone's all 'Majora's Mask is so cool brah it has BEN DROWNED in it I'm buyin' that phat 3DS and screw you working people go buy it on eBay for 10,000,000 dollars lol'

...or something like that.

Been playing the game and it is lovely so far.  The updated graphics and animations are really quite nice to see.  Don't want to go too in depth for the sake of those who haven't had a bash at it yet.

I haven't played this game in 13 years.  Back on the N64, I got fucking EVERYTHING in this game.  All the heart Pieces, the Great Fairy Sword, the Gilded Sword, the Fierce Deity Mask.  Now, I'll be lucky if I remember half of that stuff.  XD

They have made a few changes. Nothing major, but a thing here and a thing there to keep you on your toes. Also, Majora looks fantastic with 3D, even on low settings.

Word of warning: travelling back in time does NOT SAVE anymore, which caused me to lose some progress once and is a bit annoying. I believe all saving is done through Owl statues, which are more common now than they used to be.

My only real gripe is that the 3DS doesn't quite have the shaders needed to make the graphics really shine. There are a couple jagged sprite edges here and there.

I had the chance to dick around with a new 3DS. I played a demo of Smash at Gamestop on one just to see how it felt and HOLY SHIT I didn't realize how amazing that C-Stick would be as an addition to the controls. It's weird though because it doesn't shift around like you'd expect a stick control to, kind of like one of those cursor buttons on old laptops before the dawn of the touch pad. Nostalgic and new at the same time. I'm curious how playing Majora's Mask on 3DS is going to be with and without it.

Yeah. Majora's Mask is one of three Zelda games I actually did everything for. (The other two bend TWW and ALttP)

I am very eager to revisit my old friend after all this time. :(

All I've heard is people appreciating the addition of the camera controls and I just can't see it. I tried it once to test the button and thought "huh, okay" and never touched it again.

I never need to move the camera. Maybe it's because the original didn't have it? I don't know. I just press L and the camera is where I want it.

My Majora 3DS arrived in the mail today!

...No, really, the mail. It was stuffed into my cold, cold mailbox rather than sent to my door. I was more than a little concerned since I barely check the mail, but thankfully everything is working as intended.

Now I just need the charge cradle, AC cable and 32GB microSD card to arrive... and the microSD hasn't even begun shipping yet despite being ordered a week ago. :deadlink:

As for my old 3DS... I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it once everything is transferred off of it. I'm considering selling it and its own charge cradle, AC cable and 32GB SD card as a package, or I may just give it to my brother if he wants it.

I think the camera controls work fine with the traditional Z-targeting. Z-targeting may not be as great as two analog sticks and I can see how the C-nub might help, but it also works well enough, especially with the gyroscope. And I actually suspect I know what delayed Majora now; motion blur and 3D are hard to combine.

Thusfar most of the changes I've seen are minor and beneficial. I think it's a shame Grezzo made Majora as faithfully as they did--I've shared my ideas for how I would have done things elsewhere, they have made an excellent and faithful adaptation with a few subtle and smart changes.

Well I know I rotate the camera with the c-stick constantly in Zelda games that have that function, so I'd probably appreciate it. It's not so much that I *have* to, but just because I like to look around.

Actually, we know why MM3D had such a long development; there were many reasons for delays which were explained in the latest "Iwata Asks": http://iwataasks.nin...ras-mask-3d/0/0

No sane person would ever do that. It looks like the fallout of an apocalyptic breakup to me, which makes me feel sad indeed.

Nah, it's the same bullshit counter-culture as "Smash my *blank*", filming the destruction of the latest tech in view of people waiting in line on release day.

I made the mistake of clicking on his eBay option, and now the ads are appearing in my fucking Facebook News Feed.

That....was not what I expected from the Shin Megami Tensei/Fire Emblem crossover game. Huh. Still, I wasn't expecting any more news at all about the new proper FE game, so that was nice.

Mewtwo turning into Mega Y makes sense since that's the Mega Evolution in the movie, and oh look, you can give them $5.00 for it if you didn't buy both games. Who knew? Lucas as DLC is a nice surprise, which I know will now give the internet false hope for everyone else. Ah well.

Lots of good news overall. I'm not sure how 200 cc MK8 will be, though it's free so I'm not complaining.

I've just finished watching today's Nintendo Direct and this has to be one of the best in a long time. Finally Mario Maker has a release window for September, although I'm disappointed that the Mario All-Stars graphics are not available as an option, since that's the game I grew up with. Nintendo 64 games are finally coming to Wii U, and Donkey Kong 64 is now confirmed. Also Mario Kart 8's second DLC is finally coming out at the end of this month AND a 200cc speed is being added for free. Mewtwo is coming to Smash Bros this month and Lucas has been confirmed for future DLC.

All in all a good day. And enough to make up for Zelda Wii U being delayed until 2016.

200cc Mario Kart 8 looks incredibly fun. I cannot wait for that update to come out.

Also, just as a Smash Bros related PSA, if you're interested in casting a vote for potential, future DLC characters, here's the link.

I was going to post a summary of the Direct, but I screwed up and accidentally hit the Back button in the middle of typing it, so I lost everything. Welp.

The Lucas DLC was a pleasant surprise that pretty much made the Direct for me. I can't wait until June now.

200cc Mario Kart looks glorious.

Fire Emblem x SMT was... not what I expected. And I don't mean that in a good way. I thought crossovers were supposed to resemble a mishmash of both IPs, but when I saw that trailer the first thing that came to mind was Persona rather than any mainstream SMT or FE games. My interest in it nosedived pretty fast.

...Is it just me, or does the Direct just go to shit as soon as Iwata stops presenting? The only thing he didn't present that interested me was the new Fire Emblem game (which they haven't named yet).

I would happily, and foolishly, drop £9 on DK64 but it looks like the game's locked into 4:3 despite the original having widescreen support.

I'll wait for a sale. I bought Metroid Zero Mission instead.

I can confirm this is true. Widescreen doesn't work. However, this version does at least run at its proper speed, unlike the original PAL game which ran slower. It's not an ideal port but given the choice, I'd rather have it running at its proper speed. After all, you do A LOT of running in DK64.

PS: I'd also like to add that Mario Kart DS looks pretty great with screen-smoothing on. It helps that the game maintains a constant 60fps.

I just find the way they handled the SMT x FE trailer incredibly odd. We all know that SMT and FE are known for war and demons and the like, and the trailer did contain some of that. The strange thing is that these things only showed up for a second or two, seemingly glanced over while the trailer actively highlighted the anime and slice-of-life elements of the game. Considering that Nintendo and Atlus must have known that players of both series would want a war strategy game, I'm more than a little baffled that they did it this way.

Thing is, Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem smashed together was such a weird bizarre idea that ending up with such a weird bizarre concept shown in the trailer is basically what most people should've expected. And it was just an initial trailer, it really didn't show....anything, beyond it having a seemingly Persona like "overworld" and an underground fighting ring.

I did really like Bill Trinen thanking people for sitting through it though.
