WaitWut. A $50 discount toward an XL? If that's off MSRP...a Majora's Mask 3DS it is not, but that's not a cheapy offer, either.

I don't know, I'd honestly prefer my down payment back in this situation.

To the people who had their Best Buy order cancelled, even if they only ordered one system, someone over at zelda informer called a BB customer service lady and got some info on why it happened:"My order didn't get cancelled. I was scared though so I just called best buy and spoke to a very nice lady who told me I was one of the lucky ones. She said the reason this is happening is because Nintendo pulled out on 2000 units that they said they would ship to best buy. So 2000 people got screwed. I'm sorry for those of you who missed out."
So apparently we have Nintendo to blame for this one. Feeling slightly better that I missed Best Buy's pre-order window now.

They did refund me. o.o Or rather, I don't think they ever charged me, 'cause it's not showing up on my card.

Nintendo is still a scumbag. XD

Oh, well then this is an ideal situation then considering.

Yeah but Zelda is hugely popular, and people have been begging for Majora's Mask on 3ds for ages. They had to know a MM N3DS would fly off the shelves.

GJ GG.
Too bad that apparently doesn't apply for their EB Games incarnation here in Canada though.
Guess I'll keep browsing other sites...
Speaking of which, ozgameshop is doing the same thing as Play-Asia and has announced their desire to sell the handheld but haven't opened up pre-orders just yet. They're about as reputable as Play-Asia from what I've seen, so I'm keeping a close eye on both websites with my fingers crossed.
Just got a reply back from an inquiry about ozgameshop's listing; their model is the PAL version. This may or may not be a deal-breaker for any of you. If you're not bothered, more power to you, but if you're deadset on the North American version then you'd best keep an eye on Play-Asia's listing.

I received an email today from Nintendo saying the MM console is back in stock at the official UK online shop.
So you never know, it might become available again for the US.
But yeah, this is the first time I've ever considered the PAL region superior to NTSC.

Well, it's official. I have preordered the game.
Just a word to Nintendo: I do not preorder lightly.

Also, my friend wants to get me clearly addicted to something with a crack-like intensity. So he's been pestering me to get into Monster Hunter. I intend to pick up MH4 alongside MM3D. This should be an interesting experiment.

I can vouch that Monster Hunter is good and addicting. It's basically Dark Souls with more multiplayer focus and (much) less grimdark.

I imagine I might like Monster Hunter on a console rather than a handheld, had a bad experience with the 3DS version a while back at PAX east. Just didn't control right.

Sir, defend this statement!
I played a demo of Monster Hunter 3 and saw zero resemblance in the short time I played it, but I'm interested in hearing your reasoning.
To clarify my objection: Monster Hunter appeared to be incredibly slow-paced and grindy. I felt like I spent the entire demo chasing around this one monster with a ridiculous hit bar until I got bored and quit. I saw nothing of the sense of exploration and discovery, piecing together the history of the world, or exciting and high-stakes combat that I so very much loved about Dark Souls.

I think I need to make some random non-important posts right now....
I tried playing Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii when it first came out. Yeah, I REALLY tried but could not see the appeal at all, at least for me. With all the precision open campfire roasting to eat food and loot grinding and everything it kinda felt like an RPG where they never updated the mechanics and just kept making it look prettier. Plus the world, while big, didn't make me go "I want to explore and find stuff, this looks cool!" so much as "So much to trudge through to find material and grind...eh...."
I think the Dark Souls comparison is flawed, but it probably has to do with how the monster fights require you to memorize patterns and stick to it and remember how long it takes for your attack animations to cycle and being able to pull off attacks and dodges between each swing to bring a monster or boss down. That's....really it.

Yeah, that was what I meant. I admit that I probably made too broad of a comparison, my bad. I'll also admit that Monster Hunter is a bit of an acquired taste, but I tried it and I loved it.
The demo version isn't that representative of the game at large though. Yes, the basis of the gameplay is that you are hunting a giant monster, but their ridiculous HP is mitigated by the weapons you can make in the full game that are far superior to the junk you get in the demo. As for the "MH3U on the 3DS" thing, it's meant to be used with two directional sticks, which the 3DS didn't have. I also stuck with the console version because of this, though MH4U coming out with the New 3DS looks much better (and if you're not getting that, it works with the Circle Pad Pro on the original 3DS). In my mind the game really shows its fun side when you're doing multiplayer and working together to get some better gear and take down some stronger monsters.

Have your Majora 3DS and eat it too.
Posted 07 February 2015 - 11:41 PM
I was thinking that since the normal model New 3DS isn't coming out in America, I'd be satisfied just getting the Majora's Mask Edition.
Evidently, I was wrong.... =/
I would trade my MM3DS in for an American Black small 3DS and the faceplate on the right in a FUCKING HEARTBEAT.

Now that is an attractive piece of hardware.
