Okay so a craptonne of news dropped today from Nintendo mostly regarding the New 3DS.

It's out February 13th, along with Majora's Mask.

Europe gets both sizes, NA gets only the XL version. No swappable face plates for 'Murica. :(

A first for NA people - it doesn't come with a charger.

There's a Majora themed XL version and a Monster Hunter one.

Xenoblade.

Wii downloads coming to Wii U (Mario Galaxy 2 out now for £8.99/$9.99, Metroid Prime Trilogy within the month).

More amiibos.

But what made me use this topic title is on Friday just gone I received an email from Nintendo saying I was eligible to purchase an exclusive Ambassador version of the regular-sized New 3DS - the one with the SNES buttons. Oh god how I love those buttons.  :O.o:  It's exclusive in that it comes with unique face plates and is an early release.

They asked for £179.99.

I gave it to them.

It's sat at my grandmother's right now waiting for me to get there this coming Sunday to pick it up. Why I'm not there right now I don't know.

I didn't need the console. I might be a collector but I value my money, or rather I thought I did. I just got through blowing my christmas money on all manner of Wii U stuff. I buy Xbox games years after they come out for stupidly cheap prices. Hell, I bought Metroid Other M a couple of days ago for £4 brand new, possibly never to play because it's so bad. I have the Link Between Worlds 3DS XL which I love. I have a 2DS because it was cheap and thought (erroneously) they might become rare. So it's not like I need this new one to trade Pokemon with myself or something.

But those buttons though.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

We did.

I KNOW! I LOVE YOU!

We know.

That Majora's Mask New 3DS may be the reason I needed to upgrade.

Looks like I know what to get myself for my birthday. I think I might get the Majora's Mask one, it'll fit with my Ocarina of Time 3DS.

I don't plan on getting the New 3DS.  North America only gets the XL version, which makes me kind of sad because I recently swapped out my 3DS for an XL and kind of miss the smaller version.  The other issue is exclusives.  It will take more than XenoJRPG to make me buy something.

But in more important news, Fire Emblem!  Awakening saved the series and now the characters have earned their feet.  It is a glorious day.  It looks like Dual Strike and/or Pair Up is back in some capacity, and I love it so much.  I always favored tight formations in FE, so dual strikes were awesome for me.  Plus the decision between having a smaller number of super-units vs a larger number of weaker ones was an interesting trade-off.  Even though by the end game, the correct option was to always pair up a high-defense character with a high attack dual striker.  My goodness, my tanks and mages got paired off FAST in that game.

The point of all this: HYPE

Splatoon continues to look like it will make me happy.  Not sure about Project STEAM.  Something about the 19th century historical/fictional figure match up bothers me for some reason, but the gameplay looks like it could work out.

Whoa!

I am genuinely torn. I want a PS4 with Bloodborne. I want that new 3DS. I want a Wii U to play Xenoblade X. I have money to afford one of those, perhaps two.

GAH. Decisions.

Ugh. I am finally thisclose to having enough money to spare to get a Wii U (could've had one already if I hadn't spent so much on Christmas for my family), but I want that Majora's Mask 3D. I am assuming it will not be compatible with my existing 3DS. Which I only JUST got when ALBW came out. Now I have to prioritize.

Checked out the quietest of the handful of Gamestops in the immediate vicinity during lunch break while picking up food.

Sold out within 15 minutes of opening. Not liking my chances of getting that 3DS. I don't really need the upgrade now, but if I can get that version...

And you I'm pretty sure Majora's Mask will work fine with the Not-New 3DS.

Sadly, looks like the Majora New 3DS has gone the way of Villager Amiibos and the Skull Kid Figure, and is super sold out.

I hate to sound like such a whiny bellyacher, but I'm really super upset about this because I really really really wanted one, was looking forward to it, but now I don't get to have one because I have to work during the day and can't drop everything to go pre-order things.  Big frowny faces all around.  :( :( :(

Yeah, I went to Gamestop at around 2PM.  Gu said they sold out within 5 minutes of opening.  He's had to turn away about a dozen people before me.  Genuinely sad about that.  =/

Thanks to one of Fish's friends posting about it on Facebook I was able to pre-order one through Best Buy. But now they're sold out too. D:

Also yeah wispy Majora's Mask 3D should definitely work on the 'old' 3DS. I think this is just so they can hype the 'new' one. And good god did it work. I would not have bought one if it weren't for this. xD

I was sort of tempted to buy two, so I could sell the other on eBay. :P Those things are already going for $450, dang.

Majora's Mask hasn't been announced to be a New 3DS exclusive. You'll most likely be able to play it on your normal 3DS. The only game we know of so far that will only be playable on New 3DS is Xenoblade Chronicles.

That's why they're already sold out. People have been scalping them.

I'm so excited for the new Amiibos (LUCINA AND NESS = GREAT SUCCESS) but not so much for shiny new Majora's Mask. Don't get me wrong, I damn near died when I saw that 3DS but I'm holding off getting a new 3DS as long as I can. Still enjoy the golden one I got with A Link Between Worlds and I hate the idea of replacing it at the moment.

See, I have the original 3DS...the red one.  I've been considering getting the New 3DS because I've found the smaller one is actually a bit cramped for me.  I'm the type of player whose hands tense up a lot, also I have longer nails, so between that and the way I place my fingers on the console, I actually start to cramp up on smaller controllers.  I even had to stop playing OOT3D for a while because it made my hands hurt.  ALBW was wonderful, but alas, the cramping was not fun. The Majora special edition N3DS was basically the excuse/reason I'd decided to get the New 3DS.  If I can't get it, I really can't convince myself to get an entire new system.

It's so absolutely dumb of me, and I don't understand why something like this is hitting me so hard, but I'm truly super bummed about this, like in a day-ruining kind of way.

I'm amazingly sad because I could've pre-ordered that the second it was launched since I saw the Nintendo Direct, but I didn't because I immediately went to sleep afterward because my sleep schedule is completely backwards.

I can't find proper pre-orders for it anywhere now; the cheapest I've found it on eBay is $357 CAD, and Amazon has the price skyrocketed up to $800. Bloody hell.

Because it was literally only on preorder for that day. You're 100% only finding scalpers now.

I would love for in-store stock of these systems to double at the time of release, just so scalpers are now stuck with extras that they just can't unload.

Nintendo has always been restrained about supply. They were very reluctant to print more Xenoblade Chronicles, even when the used price hit $90.

Play-Asia is going to accept pre-orders for the Majora 3DS XL soon - the North American version, which is a surprise given the site name. I'm not sure what the deal is since I've never used Play-Asia, but I'm willing to try it since they take PayPal instead of forcing me to use a credit card.

I don't know. I'd probably trade in my old 3DS to get a discount on the new 3DS, but how will I transfer the data over from old to new if I've got rid of the old one?

Two ways: convince them to let you transfer in store (rife with uncertainties) or buy back your old one after trading in, do the transfer, then get a refund.

Alternatively, buy an extra SD card and transfer your data on there, or just swap the cards entirely. It would be a small additional cost to ensure your game data.

I'm certain the folks at Gamestop would understand the nature of this kind of thing and let you do a transfer in store. Not sure how a store like Target or Best Buy would handle it.

You can't transfer purchases with an SD card. Everything's locked to the hardware.

No, I've come across a better idea. Buy the New 3DS, do the transfer, then trade the old 3DS to Amazon for a gift voucher. It's worth more on Amazon. It's only worth £59.99 to GAME but it's worth a £64.99 gift voucher on Amazon.

Now the only question is: why do I want one? It only comes in white or black, the new screen appears to be darker than the old one, there's only one extra hour of battery life and I don't know what games I'd want for the old 3DS, let alone the new 3DS. I've bought so many games that turned out to be such duds that I'm wary of buying anything when it first comes out. The more I think about the New 3DS, the less I want one.

Says GameStop PR: "I can confirm that we have opened a very limited quantity of pre-orders for the Zelda 3DS XL, and are taking steps to ensure that customers across the country have a fair shot at this exciting product."

I'm heading to MAGfest this morning at the National Harbor in Maryland (I live about an hour away), and I'm sitting in the lobby, when I read that at Kotaku.  I say "fuck" and tell my friends (who I drove to the convention) that I gotta go back to my neck of the woods to make the preorder.  Halfway to the car, I realize that my dad's off today and I ask him to make the run, promising to pay him back the instant I got home.  He gets there and the phone is just ringing off the hook over this thing.  Any skepticism he had about running out immediately to grab this $200 purchase are silenced.  He puts the money down and the order is made, to be shipped directly to our house, 2 days after launch.

GJ GG.

Too bad that apparently doesn't apply for their EB Games incarnation here in Canada though. :( Guess I'll keep browsing other sites...

Speaking of which, ozgameshop is doing the same thing as Play-Asia and has announced their desire to sell the handheld but haven't opened up pre-orders just yet. They're about as reputable as Play-Asia from what I've seen, so I'm keeping a close eye on both websites with my fingers crossed.

IMPORTANT EDIT: This listing is for the PAL version, not the US version. Stick to Play-Asia if you're looking for the US version.
