Well, good thing I've never been worried about what others think -- I'm perfectly okay with having bad taste. Are we all really gonna shit on each other's show preferences? :P

Maybe Firefly is just one of those shows where if you don't like it, then you get extra sick of hearing about it all the time. I don't know. It's one of those shows you either connect with, or you don't. People have that kind of reaction to stuff like Seinfeld and Game of Thrones, too. The big popular things that not everyone clicks with.

All I ever wanted to do was explain the appeal of Arrested Development! No one was even talking about Firefly until you baited me into talking about not liking it.

With that one, I was mostly replying to Pook (and Fin).

I only brought up Firefly as a joke about you "disowning" Rova for not liking AD and insisting she give it another shot, since it amusingly paralleled your experience with not liking Firefly. I only got serious-business after your reply, because I thought it sounded kinda... yeah. I'm more than okay with you not liking Firefly. I get why it's not appealing to everyone.

Not that I'm implying I'm on any kind of high ground because of it, but I just want to say that this is why I try to always state my opinions as "I like" or "don't like" rather than saying that it's "good" or "bad". Even if it's meant to be lighthearted. Because then you get into the whole issue of preference versus objectivity, and it gets really easy to be misunderstood or to accidentally offend people. Something CAN be objectively good or bad due to certain merits, such as acting talent and delivery, if the writing is sharp or if its lazy, if the whole thing is well put-together or if it's just a mess. But even then not everyone will agree and it's always an argument rather than a fact, no matter how much you have to back it up. And it's also possible to like something you think is objectively bad or dislike something that's objectively good, just due to whether or not you're interested in the genre or if you can relate to the characters or things like that. I actually do that pretty often.

I don't think anyone should shit on another's opinion, but we all are guilty of doing that from time to time. I'm perfectly happy disagreeing with someone and not letting it interfere.

We could all talk ourselves blue (LOL AD fans, I think I just blue myself) about it, but all in all, no one's going to 'win'. We like what we do. I just wanted to know what people were into these days.

I'm totally cool with that! Actually, DJ's rant about internet critics definitely resonated with me, even as someone who actually quite likes net critics. I've certainly gotten tired over the last few years of the attitude that people who don't agree with your personal taste are idiots or deficient in some way. Stating your opinion in strong terms is one thing. Implying your superiority for having that opinion is another thing altogether.

I watch Littlest Pet Shop also, with my sister. Just got done with the second series, it's quality for a kids show. And the pets are very cute.

As for myself, my favourite show is Cheers. It's old and a lot of the jokes you can see coming from a mile away, but it has that feeling that I'm somehow there when I watch it, giving me a warm feeling. It's as much about the characters interacting than the comedy. I don't watch it anymore since I watched *every* episode, but I'll probably come back to it some time.

Frasier I like too, not as much as Cheers, since it had less variety in characters and a less convivial atmosphere, being more a house (or apartment) sitcom, on the other hand the jokes are a bit more current. I've seen every episode of that also.

I really like a TV show called Unsung, which does profiles on soul and r&b artists and groups from back in the day that are "unsung". Watching music docs can really reaffirm your faith in trying to do music as a profession I feel. And it's turned me on to a lot of great artists I never heard before.

None of these shows I actually watch on a TV set obviously... mine doesn't even work anymore since the UK switched to digital some years ago. I just use it for playing Gamecube.

I'm sad nobody mentioned Bob's Burgers. I think that show is hilarious - mostly for Tina and Louise, but Gene, Linda, and Bob are hilarious in their own ways too.

Uh, let's see. Lately Chik and I have been watching Frasier together on Netflix. I've never seen it before, but I really like it. Niles cracks me up. I'm bad about watching Doctor Who, but it does entertain me until I get tired of the deus ex machina episode endings. That 70's Show is always good for easy watching.

We've also been watching the reality show Ink Master, because why not have some ugly tattoos and cocky tattoo artists face critique for our amusement. Trashy TV I know, but hey. On the opposite end of the spectrum I do enjoy some Top Gear from time to time. And I'm still pissed that Netflix removed most of How It's Made - that show is my drug.

...geez, I don't watch much anymore. Uh. Chik watches many more series than I do... I'm super behind/have never even started many popular series like The Office, AD, Parks and Rec, etc. I guess all the internet fawning over Michael Scott and what's-his-face-with-the-glasses, AD blue-boy and Incest-Cera, and Parks and Rec macho-American-carnivore-mustache have kinda turned me off of the appeal of a lot of these types of shows, mostly because I'd hate to be associated with those rabid fanbases.

Oh! I started House of Cards not too long ago and I was entertained, so I need to get to watching more than the 4 episodes I've seen.

I tend to binge on animation whenever I get the chance. I recently had the chance to start and catch up on Korra and Gravity Falls, letting the latter build more episodes up to (again) binge some more. Used to watch Steven Universe but I sort of lost interest a while back and Regular Show I'll catch up on eventually. I also watch Adventure Time, which has been a fun series to keep up with. On the anime side, I haven't gotten into any longer series since early college but grab whatever I deem interesting enough around the 12-24 episode range. It's been hit or miss, I always seem to find the ones with over-abundant teen scheen drama and crappy writing and logic. Currently watching Captain Harlock for the first time, maybe something older for a different change of pace. Aside from active television, I'm currently waiting for new Rick and Morty, Venture Bros., Archer, China IL and (lord willing) Aqua Teen.

For live action, Community is my solid choice for comedy, has been for a while though it's been a shaky couple of seasons till we got to this point. The Eric Andre Show is a blessing to the world and everyone should watch it. Doctor Who has been fun as well, especially this new season so far. Looking forward to the new John Constantine show (Hellblazer? I don't know what it'll be called) and will more than likely grab it as soon as I can. Game of Thrones, for the obvious reasons. Finally, I got into Broadchurch a while back, watched the first season and currently waiting for season 2. Decent mystery series, though the beginning was a bit slow (which is surprising because it's a show about solving a murder case).

Firefly, Bob's Burgers and Always Sunny are shows I watch but usually when someone else is playing them on netflix.

Yes absolutely. They rearrange the relationships after season 1 and it works way better.

Ah I just noticed Toan's remark about Parks and Rec. I wanna say that Ron Swanson's exaggerated character isn't really an adequate representation of the show's type of humor. Especially without context. The reason he's funny in the show is because of the irony of having a libertarian ultra-macho guy who is totally against government spending being the head of a local government department, and how he manages to become close friends with the sensitive ultra-liberal Leslie despite disagreeing with her on nearly everything. It's faaaar from just "MURICA AND MEAT FUCK YEAH"

I agree, I feel like Ron Swanson is really misrepresented by the fandom. Maybe it changes in later seasons, but he's not nearly as over the top as everyone makes him out to be. Thanks to all the gifs and stuff I'd seen of him previously I was really prepared to not like that character but I actually do like him a lot.

For shows that are still around, even if they're off currently season:

- Game of Thrones

- Arrow

- Archer

- Parks and Recreations

- Community

- Legend of Korra

- Venture Bros.

- Agents of SHIELD

- Brooklyn Nine-Nine

- Doctor Who

- Moone Boy

- Once Upon A Time (though I have a feeling I won't bother with next season)

- Supernatural (until I quit again!)

I won't bother listing off all the stuff I've already watched and liked, because that would be tiring! But recently I finished Psych (rip) and Clone Wars, as well as rewatched (part of ) Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scrubs, and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. All come highly recommended!

Archer gets funnier and funnier the more I watch it. Anyway I swear I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, but I have a more informed perspective now that I'm more into Archer.

I'm well into the second season Megan. I mean it's not totally horrible, it's watchable when I don't have anything else to do (it's usually what I watch while I'm on the potty lol), I'm just saying I don't really see the reason for the huge following it seems to have. A lot of the jokes just seem really forced or unfunny or totally predictable.

Archer doesn't seem at all comparable to me. Just that the lady that plays Lucille voices Archer's mom.

Really? What about the other AD cast members that have made guest appearances on Archer? Jeffery Tambor? David Cross?

COME ON!

For real like the whole AD cast is in Archer. Judy Greer also—the woman that plays Cheryl is Kitty on AD. Judy Greer, Jessica Walter, and Jeffrey Tambour are all basically the same character in both shows. Now that I'm in the 2nd season of Archer I can say that for sure I think the sense of humor is pretty similar to Arrested Development, especially with regards to pacing and delivery. Maybe the topics of the humor are a little different? Like I think Arrested Development has more humor based around awkward situations (more like the Office), and Archer has more sex jokes . But there's a lot of overlap, especially with all the jokes based on upper vs. lower class and the amount of witty repartee. Also in both of them, the funny part isn't the storyline but just how the characters interact.

Just started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender tonight with my sister and her fiance. Five episodes in already and it's awesome. Really looking forward to when the overarching story gets rolling again. Also started watching The Simpsons from the beginning a little while ago. I'm in the middle of season two right now and planning to keep going until maybe season nine. And I'm in the middle of rewatching Cowboy Bebop. I'm also between seasons two and three of Borgen, planning to get back to that soon.

Ha, I actually just re-watched the entirety of Gundam Wing over the summer, so I kinda know how it feels. Those guys talk way too much about stuff they could say with half the words, but I couldn't help but feel all nice watching it again.

Let's see, I've been re-watching Attack on Titan in English and they do a pretty good job, and now that I've read the manga from the part where the anime stopped, going over these earlier scenes with that knowledge in mind is very interesting. Watched the two subbed episodes of Ghost in the Shell Arise on Netflix, not bad, I still think SAC is my favorite version of the story, though I also liked the levity that the manga sometimes had.

Saw the first episode of Gotham a couple nights ago. Not terrible, though it remains to be seen if it'll be any good. Not digging how they keep pointing out all the would be future villains, and I think it'd have been better if they didn't show us the Waynes getting murdered and the first shot of Bruce would've been Gordon meeting him. Also needs to decide if it's going to be gritty cop drama or embrace the fact that it's a superhero origin show and be okay with being a little over dramatic now and then. I also don't like how they're hinting that the murderer was someone special and not just a random lowlife thug, which is what made it so poignant in the original version. Never liked it when it was the Joker in the Burton Batman, and I still don't like it now.

Oh, been catching up on Season 4 of the Walking Dead now that the Blu-rays came out and finishing up the first season of Sleepy Hollow. The former is....something, and thew latter I'm kinda digging so far, so hopefully it doesn't turn to crap by the end of the season.

While I kinda like Modern Family and The Goldbergs, I'm just not feeling sitcoms anymore. The last one I watched and loved was My Name is Earl and that died on the vine, so other then hoping we get another season of Arrested Development on Netflix I'm probably away from that for now.

I wish they would add more episodes of Antiques Roadshow to Netflix.
