Seems as though Generation V flew by, since they just announced Generation VI this morning. At the moment, all we have is a trailer showing the new starters and version mascots. Hopefully they'll show us a few more new pokemon in the upcoming months. Pokemon X & Y are set to be released world-wide this October.

Booooo, I don't have a 3DS. :C

..Also the starters look retarded. I think they're finally running out of ideas. >>;

Hmmm...so will we get a Pokemon Z, or a Pokemon X2/Y2?

Still, it was inevitable and I'm eager to see a fully 3DS version of the series now.

Until more info comes out I'm kinda siding with Rova.

I completely agree, just not about pokemon. :P

I'll admit that the starters and mascots aren't quite as a good as last generation, but I don't think they're bad. The only one I don't really care for at the moment is the grass starter. Besides, even if these ones aren't that good, there's bound to be some great ones later on.

To someone who dropped out in Generation III, the Pokemon X&Y trailer interests me more than anything else I've seen since I stopped playing. I mean, its finally 3d, and good 3d, which I didn't think was possible on a handheld. And to my untrained eyes those starters don't look any worse than what we've come to expect. Doesn't mean I'll go anywhere near it but still.

OH MY GOD I'M SO EXCITED.

I need to purchase a 3DS.

And I think the starters look fine. Grass is a little rough, but the Fire one is excellent.

Most importantly, new camera angles and fancy new graphical updates, bridging the gap between 2D and 3D games? Yes please.

I'm pretty sure it'll be Pokémon XX and Pokémon XY.

I feel they are rushing the current generation out of the limelight a bit here, is Nintendo really in dire straits that they feel that they have to release their games this soon?

On a serious note, if they don't upgrade the battle system to something a little bit less turn-based, I might get the game.

I always had a feeling that Gen V was going to be short. It was released at the end of its system's life, and from what I read the anime moved at a fast pace. I think it was kinda meant to "fill the gap", though happily the quality wasn't compromised.

I gotta say, as a sprite lover I had some serious reservations about moving Pokemon into the 3rd dimension. I'm happy to say that I think they're doing it right. The style is much more fitting than the Stadium/Colosseum-style models.

I hope they don't remove sprites completely, since I also really like them. I'm hoping for the pokedex to stil use sprites rather than the 3D models, although I know that could very likely not happen.

Happy to see these starters looking better than last gen. Can only pray to Arceus they have some different final typings.

The age of sprites has been coming to an end for a long time now, their last bastion was the handheld market. But with the graphics these suckers can pump out now, it's not unlikely that we'll see more and more 3-D models instead. It's indeed a dark time for spriteing communities everywhere.

Not directed at people here, but it figures that now that Pokemon has finally gone and taken a step up in terms of game look and design, the very same people complaining that Black2/White 2 was too similar to past games are now bemoaning how they ditched the "classic" look and cowtowed to people for 3-D graphics. Oy.

Anyway, as someone who at worst was disappointed but still liked Emerald and flat out loved everything else, I can't wait. The worldwide release might gtive us over here a chance to play the game without already knowing all the spoilers and secre....oh who am I kidding, we'll know all the "secret" Pokemon within minutes of release.

Actually, Gen V isn't really any shorter than usual. All generations have lasted between 3 and 4 years. This one feels shorter for us in the west because of the worldwide release, but there's really no difference.

Also, can't say I agree with those disliking the starter designs; I think they're better than they've been in quite a while. I never got into gen IV and V (although I did get Soul Silver), but this looks really interesting.

Gen V was nirvana for me, gameplay wise. The games became so convenient to play. It's like a luxury cruiseliner of small animal pitfighting.

So I just watched the trailer again and I think the starters are as such:

Grass/Dark
Fire/Psychic
Water/Fighting

Is anyone else as excited about this as I am?

This seems to be what a lot of people are thinking, including myself. If that's the case, then I am almost definitely going with the Fire starter, since it's a type combination that I've always wanted.

I might just break my 14 year tradition of starting with grass in the first game of a generation. I'm liking that fox.

God I hope so. The last time we did all this speculation it was a huge disappointment.

EDIT: Serebii is saying the mascots are called Xerneas and Yveltal.

I would also very much approve of this. Having starters that were definitively superior to each other and always giving said superior one to your rival was getting boring. I'd like a level playing field for a change.

I'd also love another Fire/Psychic type. The only one that currently exists is Victini, which is a Legendary and is thus banned in most rulesets.

Doesn't having Dark as a counter to Psychic seem a bit unbalanced, though? After all, Psychic moves can't even touch Dark-type Pokémon.
