Spider silk is an amazing material; pound for pound, it's stronger than steel and tougher than Kevlar. If we could produce it in the quantities Spiderman can, it could be used for all kinds of things - clothing, engineering, ropes, etc... The only problem with his silk is, as he says, it biodegrades incredibly quickly. Presumably that was a failsafe he built in so as not to leave cobwebs everywhere, so maybe it could be worked out.
