Welcome young trainer to the exciting world of Pokemon battling!

Green Goblin and I have become Gym Leaders of a certain type in order to show you what you're missing if you've never battled competitively with your Pokemon, or if you feel overwhelmed by the in-depth workings of the game and the time you perhaps need to invest in training.

By sticking to just one type, GG and I hope to have given you just enough of an edge to win. We're not going to make it easy! ;) But you should at least have some idea of which Pokemon to expect on our teams.

If you beat one of us, you'll earn a Gym Badge and a shiny Pokemon for you to keep!

If you lose, you'll hopefully start to gain an interest in how to make your Pokemon more powerful by focussing on its growth, so you can come back and whoop our asses. This is ultimately what we would like to get out of all this - give more people the battling bug! :P

Eventually we plan on building more teams of each type to build the league up, and as you get better at battling over time you could also become a gym leader if you wish!

EDIT (03/14/2010): GG and I are delighted to welcome Showsni as a Gym Leader!

Okay then. If you see either GG, Showsni or myself on LA's active user list, simply PM either of us and ask for a battle along with your friend code. If we've got time, we'll happily oblige!

There are rules to competitive battling though. Don't think you can turn up with six Arceus and walk off with your free shiny!

___________________Rules___________________

* Your team must consist of 6 pokemon.

* Battles are conducted at level 100. The game will automatically level up your team when on wifi, so don't worry about level grinding or Rare Candying up.

* No duplicate pokemon on a team (each pokemon must be different).

* No hacked pokemon, for example a Spiritomb with Wonder Guard.

* No moves that reduce accuracy or raise evasion (Sand-Attack, Minimize, Double Team etc). Moves that affect either as a secondary effect, such as Mud Bomb, are allowed as well as Acupressure.

* No one-hit knock-out moves (Sheer Cold, Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill).

* Two or more Pokémon on a team cannot be asleep at the same time. Self-induced sleep via Rest is not applicable.

* The following hold items are banned:

- King's Rock
- Brightpowder
- Lax Incense
- Quick Claw
- Razor Claw
- Razor Fang
- Scope Lens
- Focus Band
- Soul Dew

* The following pokemon are banned:

- Mewtwo
- Mew
- Lugia
- Ho-Oh
- Kyogre
- Groudon
- Rayquaza
- Deoxys
- Dialga
- Palkia
- Giratina
- Darkrai
- Arceus
- Wobbuffet
- Wynaut

* The following pokemon are banned for Gym Leaders only:

- Garchomp
- Latios
- Manaphy

Well, all I have is my Elite Four beating team (beat them yesterday!), but this sounds fun!

Though I think I'd have to find a different item for Staraptor.

Once I finish everything up and get my team ready, I'll eventually challenge you, although I don't think I have internet for the DS...

If I were to ever become a gym leader though, it would probably be dragon.

^Same. All steel teams are so much fun.

I'm ready to battle Vet.

If i can work my way up, I wouldn't mind being a gym leader. I have teams entirely composed of ever different type so i can do w/e.

Well, I don't know how many of you know about this site, but it's pretty cool, it let's you make your own pokemon trainer card.

Here's a link if you're interested.

The incentive here is really to encourage your guys to battle a bit more competitively. These teams won't be our very best, but you should definately bring your A game if you expect to come out on top. If you don't, we're always able to offer tips and help when you need them.

As an added bonus, after you guys battle us, regardless of the outcome, if you ever need a specific TM or berry, let me know and I'll hook you up.

I needed to do that. Someone needed to say it.

Uhm. I left my DS charger at home, like an idiot. So I'm left off very early on in the game. I'll catch up while this is still on though! I swear!

:P

 I remember the first time we battled I kept saying "hello? hello?" and Australian answer there came none. :P Nah, I had to keep it down, others were asleep in the next room, despite it being relatively early in the night when we battled.

First taste of help: free hold items. Some of the more useful hold items for you pokemon can be found for free in your game. Others you have to buy in the Battle Park/Frontier, but we'll look at those later.

Focus Sash - Can survive a potentially fatal attack with 1 HP if HP is full. Only works once. Talk to a man in a house on route 221 and bring him any pokemon of the level he desires.

Choice Specs - these increase the special attack stat by 50% but allow only one move to be used until the user is switched out. Talk to a man in the medicine shop of Celestic Town in the morning to get the item.

Leftovers - regain 1/16th of max HP every turn. Found in post-Elite Four area of Victory Road.

Shell Bell - regain 1/8th HP of the damage dealt to the opponent. Found in Hearthome City.

Expert Belt - increases power of super-effective moves by 20%. Talk to a man in a house on route 221 and bring him any pokemon of the level he desires.

Life Orb - increases power of moves by 30% at a cost of 10% max HP whenever an attacking move is used (except on an opposing Substitute). Found in Stark Mountain.

Light Clay - increases the duration of Reflect and Light Screen from 5 to 8 turns. Found in Mt. Coronet.

Big Root - increases drained HP from moves such as Giga Drain and Leech Seed by 30%. Found on route 214.

Wide Lens - increases accuracy of moves by 10%. Veilstone Game Corner, 1000 coins.

Shed Shell - allows you to switch out despite trapping moves and abilities. Only works once. Found on route 228.

This is just a small section of useful items available.

Don't forget the type-boosting items such as Charcoal and NeverMeltIce, as well as the Plates, which boost moves of a particular type by 20%.

no, no, no. JUST accuracy and evasion. You can still lower or raise attack, defense, speed, special attack or special defense.
These are the standard wifi battling rules. Best to teach you guys to adhere to them if you are to earn glory on the battlefield

That's actually a design flaw in the game. The Elite Four are about twice as hard as anything else in the game, leaving nowhere to effectively level your team to be strong enough to fight them. You're supposed to grind them into submission.

The Elite Four is hard now? That's a far cry from the early games, where the starter pokemon, if made to fight every wild pokemon and trainer battle you come across, is often strong enough to beat the Elite Four by itself.
