Miyamoto confirms new era for next Wii Zelda

All new era and older than ever Link! (Or at least approaching adult-hood... was he really 16 in OoT and TP?)
After Solid Snake, is Old Man Link next? (Just kidding)
Also the absence of the sword in the undisclosed (kinda leaked) artwork IS apparently significant (which I'm not sure I'm too thrilled about).
...and there won't be swords in the multiplayer mode of ST either. Going pacifist now?
Ah well, it IS Shigsy so take everything with a half dozen bags of salt.

Mh... at this point I think either we get a wider choice of weapons (swordS, battleaxes etc.) or the girl really is the sword.he did say to think about Zelda when we sword fight in Wii Sports Resort, so a sword will probably still be in the game.

Remember the old "Midna is the Master Sword" theory from 2005?

Maybe Link's been taking lessons from Rygar...

Maybe they've taken the complaints about Zelda being too easy to heart and made the Second Quest not have a sword. And you only have one heart the whole time. And no shield. And only Deku Sticks. With limited ammo. On a timer.Hey, people have been using game glitches for years to get a swordless Link in OOT, and heck, there's a "Swordless Challenge" for the original NES Zelda. Maybe Nintendo's just pandering to the fanbase?
Maybe Link's been taking lessons from Rygar...

Maybe it's the "Zelda with guns" that everybody was talking about a few years ago? Although he did say to think about Zelda when we sword fight in Wii Sports Resort, so a sword will probably still be in the game. As for the older Link, maybe it's a dystopian future steampunk Frank Miller-esque world where Link must ride his motorcycle and dual-wield shotguns to fight GanonCorp?
I hope not... that would suck

Well, I just saw that Nintendo officially released the artwork. I don't see how Link looks any "older" than TP Link, but that blue girl does look an awful lot like the Master Sword. Maybe Duke Serkol's theory is right...
Well when I first looked at it, she looked like the Great Fairy Queen from TWW. But then I looked again. And again. Everytime I keep looking she kept reminding me of the master sword. Sounds crazy but people said Zelda with trains was crazy and then looked what popped up on DS! Are gun's next.
He also said this was a new era with an older Link but this looks just like TP Link. Then again we have several incarnations of the TWW Link.
I don't know... she looks goofy to me. I'd have to see her in the game. For all I know that silly looking cape she's in might look awesome in combat or when summoning spells or whatever the heck she does. But a part of me is hoping that's not the final version of her.

Well, either way, as long as he has a shield, he'll have a weapon. I hope we don't start seeing Hyrule with crazy technological advances now. First, trains. Then, spaceships.
Man I hope they don't decide to make crazy Zelda games which would mess up our timeline theories. However, Aonuma said he wanted to put all the games together storywise sooooo.....

Ah, what am I thinking? I need to get into bed and let this soak in. But seriously, with Miyamoto not caring as much about the timeline and that cryptic "last of its kind" quote about TP, maybe the old canon is going to be abandoned and a fresh reboot is starting? It would certainly make continuity a lot more manageable.

A reboot would probably ignore the entire Seal War story and go with something new. And the FSA/ALttP plothole is actually pretty minor if you consider Palace of the Four Sword canon (not that it explains how he got the Triforce, but whatever).Actually, I wouldn't mind a reboot, so long as they made a game that fixed the FSA/LttP plothole.
In my mind, a Zelda reboot wouldn't exactly be a cold reboot, but would only consider the "main" games canon with the 2D games considered apocryphal. Really if you think about it every argument anyone has ever had about the timeline has been getting the 2D games to match up with the 3D games. Because Nintendo has confirmed timeline placements for OoT, MM,TWW, TP, PH, and maybe ST if Gametrailers wasn't making it up, we'd have a decent timeline to go on right there.

Well, personally, if she does turn into a sword I don't think it'll be the Master Sword but a new one. And whether she does or not, I do believe she can be safely assumed to be a great fairy/fairy queen.Well when I first looked at it, she looked like the Great Fairy Queen from TWW. But then I looked again. And again. Everytime I keep looking she kept reminding me of the master sword.

Yeah, doesn't seem any older to me either.an older Link but this looks just like TP Link.
...so much old man Solid Link *lol*

Which I wouldn't mind seeing for only one or two games at most. You know, so we could see the story fo the Hero of Men from MC's background. But then that would definitely -have- to be the first game in the timeline (or at least the first Link).Link without his sword is like Link without his hat

Sounds kinky.I'm willing to bet that blue girl there is the sword and transforms into it when you unsheathe her.
Person, on Jun 5 2009, 09:23 AM, said:
But no one said it has to be the Master Sword. As for this wholly new aspect of the Master Sword, they're going to have a heckuva time retconning it into canon, that's for sure.
Though if it was, I don't see the problem really. The sword already displayed a will of its own in the past.

When was that?
He might be referring to the NOA translations, which said things like "Link was chosen by the Master Sword" (Japanese translation says the goddesses chose him, as I recall).

PS: Okay, the fairy creature may be a weapon, but the Master Sword in particular? Unlikely, I think.

I have to disagree Raien, even if you don't think she'll end up being either of those things the resemblance between her and the sword and Fairy Queen is undeniable.
She looks like A sword. But every highlighted part of the fairy's design simply does not look like the equivalent highlighted part of the Master Sword. And the positions of those highlighted boxes are completely wrong. The handle is supposed to be the fairy's head, but the hilt is supposed to be her leggings? Where does the blade fit in?

I agree that they're not placed exactly right. But I thought you were also saying she doesn't look lke a fairy, when it seems pretty clear that she's at least based on the Fairy Queen of TWW and FSA.
No, I can accept the Fairy Queen similarity. I can accept that the jewel and dress look like the hilt of a sword. I just don't think it looks like the Master Sword; that's all. Sorry about the confusion.

Might be. I was thinking of a quote from OoT in which it was said that the Master Sword determined Link was not ready and had to be sealed in the Temple of Light. He might be referring to the NOA translations, which said things like "Link was chosen by the Master Sword" (Japanese translation says the goddesses chose him, as I recall).
Also in AST it is said that the sword chooses whether to be drawn out of its pedestal or not.

Is that a problem? I mean, they are fairies, they probably can make themselves look whatever they wish.man, the fairies appearances are so inconsistent. We have the human ones, the alien ones, and the glowy orbs.

Yeah, that was the quote I was thinking of. But upon double-checking, I was wrong. The Japanese says "chosen by the Master Sword" as well.
