I gotta say the story is shaping up to be much better than the original series. I do prefer the characterisations from the original though.

I think the original anime did a better job with some of the scenes that were depicted in some of the more recent episodes, episode 5 for example. I remember watching the same scene(s) from the first anime and getting a stronger reaction from it but the new showing just seemed like it was . . . lacking.

That may have something to do with the fact that you already know what's going to happen. I think the series will really pick off when we stray off into territory not covered by the original Anime.

I think it's also that this series only spent one episode with those specific events. The original had more of a build up in which more familiarity could be achieved. Also the original had some really good music in there. That always helps.

Tell you what, though, the Manga's getting very exciting right about now. Its finale is going to be a lot more exciting than the Anime's.

This adaptation better have a massive story, cos it's just eating through the original timeline:episode ratio.

I'm pretty sure they're going to slow it down to normal pacing once it gets past the part the original anime already did.

They have to. It'd be pretty boring otherwise if they didn't. The new series would be exactly the same as the original Anime. I'm pretty bored with the first few episodes as of right now. I just can't wait till they get to the bit where the original Anime diverged away from the Manga storyline properly.

Yeah these major events - such as that one - just don't seem to be delivering the same emotive response value as the original. I know I've seen it all before but still, it seemed.....rushed, you know?

Well, of course. To be fair on them, if they spent far too long on the early events, we'd get pretty bored. After all, we've all seen it before in the original Anime series. Things should start diverting away from the original Anime pretty soon, so they should be slowing down their pace... unless they're trying to cram the entire Manga into 52 episodes.

Episode 14: Those who Lurk Below.

The new series diverges here. They're bound to slow down now, although they've still left out certain bits of the Manga like another scene which reinforces the Fuhrer's affable nature.

Because I can no longer watch Funimation's subbed version, I'm left to watching fansubs. Episode 15 was horribly subbed, though. Quite a few sentences didn't make any sense and someone had squashed the ratio down to 4:3.

I quite like Ling's voice actor, though. He was very good.

that's what I felt. . .they didn't depict the emotion well enough. Even watching the original anime again has a stronger feeling, even thought I know what's going to happen.

Perhaps they're getting complacent. I thought it was a bad idea to redo the Anime, myself. I just knew the first episodes wouldn't be really that good.

Still, the recent ones aren't that bad. Did you watch the episode where Ed apologises to Gracia?

I remember reading the manga chapter when he does that.

I hated how in the first series Ed and Al have no idea about what happened to Hughes until the middle of the second season. And after they found out, all they did was get mad about it for 2 minutes and just move along. But maybe the fact that the Elric brothers, who were constantly looking for the truth, always seem to find themselves behind shielded from it or just plain lied to has always annoyed me.

Yeah, in that sense I like the manga portrayal better. It seems as if in the Manga, Ed and Al face up to a lot of their problems and learn from them. As evidenced in the most recent Episode (no. 19) in the battle against Lust.

Spoiler : click to show/hide
Al takes a stand and says, 'no more'. He stands in front of Riza and protects her from Lust, even though there's no hope of him surviving.

The Anime depiction of the battle really rams home how terrifying Roy's powers can be.

My favourite scene in the latest episode was when Yoki broke into the Armstrong household. It's nice to see they're alluding to events that never got shown in this version of the story.

The manga is just one chapter away from finishing and that's pretty epic. Can't quite imagine how awesome it will be in the Anime.

And yes, I agree... Bradley kicks tank butt.

I see this series ending somewhere around 60 episodes. They move the story along pretty well in each episode.

It really isn't that far away. The Wikipedia article lists 60 episodes in total.

The current episode (Number 56) corresponds to manga chapter 97/98. There are 107 manga chapters so far and the manga should end with Chapter 108.

Loving how the episodes are going as of late. Greed is sucking up all the screen time and the doctor with the gold tooth makes one dastardly move with one of Roy's "chesspieces".

Somehow, even Dante from the 2003 Anime manages to get a cameo.

Episode 58. There's a scene with an old couple talking about the brilliant light and Radio Capital. Look at the elderly woman. She's never referred to by name, but she does look like Dante. Not Lyra mind you, but Dante.

Posted Image

Mind you, it's only a very abrupt scene and merely a cameo appearance. Also, we don't get to see her too close up, so it could just be any old woman with a slight passing resemblance but it's similar enough.
