I just finished watching the first episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Anyone in North America who is interested in watching it legally, should keep an eye out on the Funimation website. It will stream on 9th April, 12 pm. Click here for a list of where you can view it.

Quite frankly, I liked it. The map in the first scene was evidence (as far as I was concerned) that this series will be following the Manga far more closely than the original Anime series. It was nice that the first episode featured an entirely new story not in the Manga, as that would have made it seem too much like the original Anime.

They kind of spoiled things a bit for those who haven't read the Manga by featuring two scenes that feature far too much overshadowing. For those of you who've read the manga, you'll know what I'm talking about...

Also, I loved the visuals for the ending theme. Gluttony never looked so cute!

Yes, you're absolutely right.

What I meant to say was that the map can be taken as evidence that this new season will follow the plot of the Manga more closely than the original Anime series. And that can only mean one thing... This Anime's going to be far more epic than the original. The threat from the main villain will be far more clear cut and sinister than in the original Anime.

The animation and voice-acting is so close to the original (perhaps even the same staff?) that I found it hard separating it from the original. Like meeting certain characters for the first time but in different situations, I had to keep reminding myself, no they don't already know this guy.

Ed and Al I know have the same voice actors from the first series. But I just finished watching the first episode and I was very much pleased.

Oh yeah I really liked it. I'm almost excited at having a new story come along for an anime that I know for certain is good. Mustang's voice is higher than in the original. Makes him seem less womanizing. Bradley sounds very much the same so he could be the same voice actor.

Which makes me wonder whether they're going to include the technically non-canonical "miniskirt" comment in this particular series.

I mean, let's face it, the miniskirt comment didn't even feature in the main plot of the manga. It appeared in a four strip comic near the end of Volume 3 and in its sequel, Mustang's men executed him for suggesting he would fire all the men and turn the Army into his own personal harem.

Also, I'm eager to see how this plays out...seeing as the manga is kickaaaass and the anime...kinda went crazy after a while, although it stayed amusing in its own way.

They kinda overdid the stereotypical Anime overreactions, though. I guess that was to sort of let us know the difference between this one and emo Ed from the original Anime.

oh... i'm interested but dont have the money to invest on a second take of Fullmetal xD i was completely happy with the first one (enough so that it rivaled my favorite anime of all time for a while)

why do that when you can watch it legally on funanimations website? with only one advertisement before anime starts which really surprised me

anyways! yes..i finally got around to watching the now TWO posted episodes of this show..and yeah I agree with everyone here that I was quite impressed. While the first episode was absolutely divergent from the original plot of the anime I did quite enjoy it. I thought it was a great start to the series since it explained many key elements of the series (such as the philosophers stone, how it is created, the sin Ed & Al committed, Ed's "fullmetalness", his hatred for short jokes, etc, etc).

Also, clearly by the mention of "buying a ticket to Loire" I enjoyed that it even explained it's actual key moment in the FMA timeline. For those of new to the FMA series..Loire is the introductory town in both the anime and the manga. SO at least I couldnt completely throw this episode out..as not in context since it did place itself as "before the plot."

The second episode I thought..was brilliant. Now, while they choose to have their "Ed and Al" flashback before it's place in the manga the way it was set up was great. I enjoyed the nostalgic train ride not to mention.. just how on key it was with the manga. Everything that was there was in the manga..down to Ed's conversation about Stew.

All and all..I am very, VERY, impressed by this anime @__@ if they continue to stay on the course of the manga i may in fact have to call it the most on key anime with the manga. Not to mention it gets double points for having the original voice cast from the first anime *_* well.. minus the voice actor for Roy.

Because I didn't realise that they'd archive the stuff. Besides, what I said earlier is no longer true. It's now rather difficult to find a free copy of it floating on the 'net, which is why I thank Funimation for keeping those episodes available.

I presume those episodes will be taken off air once they put it on DVD or something like that.

I have yet to watch the second episode, but I still have enough time.

EDIT: Just finished watching the second episode. It's nice to know that Ed is back to his original evil self from the Manga. Quite frankly, the original Anime version wasn't quite as fun. Also, it's good to know that they've decided to follow the Manga plot line properly.

From what I've seen it's very good. I personally am a huge fan of the original series, so I was feeling a little down on this series having a different director and staff but viewing what we have so far put my fears to rest. The manga has fantastic plotting so it's good to see it will be more manga based. However, there was a couple of things I felt were done better in the first anime than the manga, such as the development of Lust's character and the depiction of the relationship the Elrics had with Shou and his family. I'll definitely miss these things but I'm trying not to suspect them. I'm really looking forward to seeing Armstrong's kickass sister.

I've watched it again and I find it strange that they're referring to Xingese Alkahestry in the sub. It seems a strange thing to call it. In fact, I worry that this series is foreshadowing future events far too early.

A friend introduced me to this series just today. I've been aware that FMA was a popular series but I never got into it because I'm not used to the downloading scene. But thanks to the Funimation website's hosting of this series, I watched all three episodes and can happily say that it was incredible. Particularly the second episode, which was powerful in its concept and execution.

The only flaw is the constant height jokes. It wasn't funny the first time, so to hear it so often in the space of a few minutes is just annoying.

I quite liked the second episode too, even though it missed out one part from the Manga that I thought was rather crucial i.e. Edward's comment about Roy after the examination. Then again, they did kind of have time constraits, I realise that.

Does anybody else like the fact that Ed seems more evil in this version of the Anime?

Well, he reminds me so much of the Manga version, who really did have his evil moments. Well, cruel, anyway. I look forward to seeing the next episode. I have a day off on Friday, so maybe I'll watch it then.

So, just finished watching the 4th episode (Ninja and Shou Tucker) last night. Spot on with the manga, especially Ed's reactions to discovering Tucker's secrets. It did include the battle with General Gran, though, as the original anime did but the manga left out except by mentioning it. This show is getting increasingly bloody....just the way it was meant to be, frankly. XP

Just finished watching the fifth episode myself. They embellished the story in the Manga quite nicely, without inventing extra stuff that would have merely overcomplicated things. Maybe, it's just me, though, but it seems as if the Anime is deliberately shying away from depicting some of the original scenes in the Manga.

Or is it just that my imagination makes the Manga seem more vivid than it actually is?

I think the original anime did a better job with some of the scenes that were depicted in some of the more recent episodes, episode 5 for example. I remember watching the same scene(s) from the first anime and getting a stronger reaction from it but the new showing just seemed like it was . . . lacking.
