By my reckoning we've gone over 32.

JR, it might dilute the calibre of nominations but it may also increase the epic - you could raise the threshold to 48 nominations. It would leave 3 nominations in the final poll.

We're at what, 37? Another 11 isn't that unattainable.

If we can't get all 48 I'm sure some people have ideas that they couldn't nominate. For example, I had a third person I wished to nominate but, alas, could not. I think if things start to slow down we could just open up the nominations to the people that already nominated. Everyone gets 3 sounds like it would work to me...

either that or you could accept just the first 32 submissions. kinda harsh for those who submitted later, but that way it doesn't matter and we can get the show on the road!

^ Agreed, surely it can't be hard for people to each nominate at least one more participant. 48 will be reached easily.

Maybe you guys should wait and see what JRP thinks of it all before you do it, though. You don't have to run the thing, after all. I imagine that the usual number is a decent amount of work as it is. ;)

Hello everyone, I'm sorry I haven't checked up on the tourney. I was in Montreal for the last couple of days so I have a good excuse.

I am also pretty torn up about this overwhelming outcome for nominations. I am willing to make a compromise with everyone here:

If the total of combatants grows to 48 by Saturday (USA's Saturday), then I will try out this new method for the tournament. However, if the numbers aren't met, then I will have no choice but to have people who nominated two combatants choose which one of their choices they want to keep.

However, there is a third option. I might consider raising the combatant numbers to 64. If you guys raise around 48, then I will look into this option but I want your opinion about this choice. There hasn't been a 64 seed contest since the very first Grand Tournament.

And BTW, I've always liked the Mother/Earthbound Zero form of Gigyas (technically called Giegue):

48 will be easy to reach. to get to 64 are you going to allow people to submit 4 entrants or keep it at 3 (or are we still stuck at 2 per person??) and hope we have more people want to submit?

Name:
Sailor Moon

Origin:
Sailor Moon

Description:
Tsukino Usagi is an ordinary schoolgirl who magically transforms into a superheroine. As the Pretty Soldier of Love and Justice, Sailor Moon, she protects the Earth from the many enemies she faces. These include:
Queen Beryl, who is the ruler of the Dark Kingdom and is possessed by an evil energy being named Queen Metallia;
Death Phantom, who leads the Black Moon Clan from the planet Nemesis in the future;
Pharaoh 90, an alien creature with the power to destroy the entire world who is summoned by the Messiah of Silence, Mistress 9;
Queen Nehellenia, who is consumed with vanity and uses the Dead Moon Circus to try to obtain the Golden Crystal (which protects the dreams of the people of Earth) so she can be granted eternal beauty by it;
and Sailor Galaxia who leads the Shadow Galactica and is possessed by Sailor Moon's ultimate enemy, Chaos.

Usagi is the 20th century reincarnation of Princess Serenity of the Moon Kingdom, which was destroyed by Queen Beryl long ago during the Silver Millenium. In the future in the 30th Century, Sailor Moon is known as Neo Queen Serenity, and is the ruler of the new Silver Millennium on Earth centered in Crystal Tokyo. Sailor Moon also transforms into Super Sailor Moon, at first when using the Holy Grail, and then later with an upgrade to her brooch given by the Guardian of Dreams, Pegasus. In the final series, Sailor Moon takes the form of Eternal Sailor Moon. In the manga, Sailor Moon's ultimate form from far in the future, Sailor Cosmos, appears during the final battle of the series when Eternal Sailor Moon faces Chaos at the Galaxy Cauldron. Having traveled from a desolate future ravaged by a long battle with Chaos, she pleads with her past self to destroy the Galaxy Cauldron and be rid of Chaos while she still has the chance. Eternal Sailor Moon refuses because that would mean that no more stars could be born and the Galaxy would have no future. Instead she risks her own life and goes into the Cauldron to seal Chaos away.

A question you might want to save for if we actually get that far, NK. And speaking of which, my 3rd nominee:

--------------------

Name: Lucas

Origin: Mother 3 -- Mother/Earthbound

Description: A young boy with a tragic past who is much more powerful than he realizes. After losing his mother to a beast that was turned into a chimera, he forced himself to mature and fight against the force that made the creature. The timid boy's fear was ever-present, but he didn't let this stop him from making sure what happened to his mother didn't happen to anyone else. Unfortunately, the opposition included his brainwashed and somewhat-mechanized brother, who had foolishly sought revenge against that chimera and was defeated and taken by the evil army. After several confrontations, he and the evil king of the army were eventually defeated by Lucas. After releasing a mythical creature said to be able to restore the world, he now tries to rebuild his shattered life. He tries not to let past events get him down however, even going so far as to participate in the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament and now the Grand Tournament.

Alright, let's get more submissions going!

If Dr. Horrible is up, then that means that Captain Hammer must be close behind.

Name: Nathan Fillion

Origin: The Joss Whedon universe

Description:
Nathan Fillion is the space-travelling cowboy Mal Reynolds, the captain of the ship Firefly which saved the universe from the murdering, cannibalistic Reavers. He also goes by the name Captain Hammer, city-protecting superhero whose arch-nemesis is the abominable but incapable Dr. Horrible. In short, he is a god among men. Also, he can sing.

Name:The Doctor

Origin: The planet Gallifrey, or England if you prefer.

Description: A nine-hundred year old alien space and time traveller whose weapon of choice is a screwdriver, sidekicks are often hapless female humans, spaceship is a blue police call box called the Tardis (which happens to be bigger on the inside than it is on the outside), and enemies range from destructive garbage cans to Satan himself. He knows all of history, has seen empires fall, saves the planet Earth -- if not the universe itself -- weekly, and enjoys dancing, jelly babies, and edible ball bearings.

Name: Shinra

Origin: Ikaruga

Description:
A reckless young man with an unshaking faith in his beliefs. Despite his ferocious appearence, he actually has a fairly even temper. He pursues his ideals with zeal, so that he will have no regrets when he finally passes away. Because of this, many believe he is eager to die. Shinra sought freedom and fought against the nation of Hourai, which held claim to the power of gods.

After surviving the destruction of the Tenkaku organization which opposed Hourai, Shinra was helped by the people of Ikaruga village who were exiled by Hourai. It was there that Shinra became the pilot of the Ikaruga, a fighter built by the villagers with the unique ability to absorb and switch between the two polarities on which Hourai's weapons were based. He also gained a comrade in the form of Kagari, a Hourai pilot which Shinra shot down. Kagari joined Shinra, her fighter Ginkei eventually equipped with the same polarity switching mechanisms as Ikaruga. The two fought through the forces of Hourai, reaching the source of Hourai's power, the Stone-Like God. There, Shinra and Kagari shot every last reserve of energy in the Ikaruga and Ginkei into the Stone-Like God. The two fighters fell apart from the energy drain, disapearing from the face of the earth along with their pilots.

Name: Jason Statham

Posted Image

Origin: Frank Martin in The Transporter, Chev Chelios in Crank, several others - all are nothing to the real man

Description: Complete, total, 100% manly man and bad ass in general. He knows what he does well, and sticks to it - fortunately for the amsses, that would be starring in fluffy popcorn flicks where he beats up several dozen other people throughout with laughably bad dialogue and senseless plots. Which is why he is awesome. Need to kick ass using melons? Sure. Fight Jet Li with terrible dialogue? Why not? Be crackpot psycho who has to do stunts in order to live long enough to fight someone on a helicopter? Sure thing. Hell, even remaking an already tacky B movie into something even more random and gratuitous isn't below the man. In short, yeah, the movies he makes are awful, but they're the awesome kind of terrible. And he's the awesome kind of awesome.

</internet fanboy>

All right, seriously, he's a tough dude, and he's pretty cool.

Damnit Chik, I was gonna post The Doctor (I've edited your post since you named him "Doctor Who" :P)!

Hmmm, since we have Chuck Norris and Rick Astley already, it makes sense to nominate:

Posted Image

Name: Vin Diesel

Origin: Action hero

Description: Vin Diesel has two speeds: walk and kill.
An anagram of Vin Diesel is "I end lives".
Vin Diesel played Russian Roulete with a fully loaded gun and won.
It takes 14 puppeteers to make Vin Diesel smile, but only 2 to make him destroy an orphanage.
When Vin Diesel was born, the nurse said, "Holy crap! That's Vin Diesel!" Then she had had sex with him. At that point, she was the third girl he had slept with.

Introducing the most evil character of them all. Tremble in fear at...

Barney The Dinosaur

Born: 1987

Birthplace: Dallas, Texas

Best Known As: Big purple star of Barney and Friends
A six-foot purple dinosaur, Barney stars in the children's TV show Barney and Friends. The character got his start in 1987 in direct-sale videos created by Dallas teacher Sheryl Leach. The tapes caught the eye of the Public Broadcasting System, who put Barney and Friends on the air in 1992. The big purple dinosaur quickly became a public phenomenon, joining Mister Rogers and Jim Henson's Muppets as PBS stars. Barney is a cuddly, friendly Tyrannosaurus Rex; he often is joined by his chums Baby Bop (a baby Triceratops) and her brother B.J. (a Protoceratops). He starred in a 1997 feature film, Barney's Great Adventure.

Description: To quote EncyclopediaDramatica:

Wandering onto /b/ in the Summer of 2008, the so-called Advice Dog (Also known as Persuasive Puppy, Advice Puppy, Bad Advice Dog, Subversive Dog, Wisdom Dog, Danger Dog, and Crafty Clever Canine of Conscience Corruption, that fucking rainbow dog) came to /b/ to grace its ignorant and misguided inhabitants with His infinite wisdom. Back when there were only 32 slots I figured it wasn't worth my effort...but now that there's a good chance they'll be 64...WELL.

Name: Leon S. Kennedy

Origin: Resident Evil 2 and 4

Description: Leon was a policeman for a whole day. Unfortunately, the viral outbreak in Raccoon City happened on his first day on the job. After surviving the incident he was trained and hired to help protect the President and his family. He just about always has a combat knife on his person and specializes in using it (either for slashing or throwing) and in head-shots with his favorite weapon; a pistol. He is very experienced in fighting opponents orders of magnitude faster and more powerful than he is , and can do well in such fights even when his ammunition supply is low.

Name: Miria

Origin: Claymore

Description: Miria was, like most Claymores, originally an orphan. Claymore (a.k.a "The Organization") drafted her and put her through anatomic and genetic therapy to make her into a "hybrid" (half-human, half-monster.) She did well once she became a warrior, but only excelled under the mentoring of Helga, who eventually became a close friend. Eventually, Miria had to kill Helga after she becoming a monster (one of the hazards of being a hybrid.) Miria took Helga's death personally and eventually rebelled against Claymore because she holds it responsible for her friends death and believes Claymore is taking advantage of the commoners.

Miria is very well informed and is extremely intelligent. She also was so fast she was capable of a "phantom mirage" technique (a burst of speed so fast it leaves a residual image of her in her opponent's retina.) Originally, she could only use the technique around 30 times a day. After she rebelled, she spent seven years training it and can now use a slower and shorter range technique indefinitely which projects several images going in different directions rather than a single residual image. Her swordsmanship itself is quite good, but it increasingly relies on her superior speed to run circles around her opponent.
