Besides, I'm pretty sure Jesus said a whole lot of things. Not just "Hey, I'm a nice guy."
"You should be nice too."

Well they weren't called "Christian ideals."
So what? He was just using that phrase as a reference so that we could all be on the same page. It doesn't matter what they were called. Whatever phrase you use, it simplifies to "Jesus good."
To put an end to this strange tangent, the translation is as follows: "Just because Jesus was good does not mean he is the supreme power of the universe made human." That was mainly the intended message, so if we're going to bicker with each other over Toast's post, then let's bicker over that and refocus.
God isn't Zeus and Jesus isn't Dionysus, though comparisons aren't unprecedented.
Hey, Zeus and God are one thing, but Dionysus and Jesus? That one's scary. If not unprecedented, then hopefully rare. The closest match to a proto-Jesus I've seen in mythology was a girl, actually. But I hardly think she actually influenced those stories. She's too old.
Now look, the myth mode almost got switched on there for a second. It's a dangerous thing.

I've heard the Dionysus as a parallel to Jesus argument before. Both are males given a feminine influence (Jesus being a pseudo-maternal figure for humanity and Dionysus being the god of wine and fertility). http://en.wikipedia....th_Christianity

Personally...I believe that there has to be more to the human race in their meaning, and that we weren't placed on this earth simply to breed and die.
I like to think there is a higher power; the God, if you will.
"It doesn't matter. If you're gonna make them sick, why only fix a few?"
This concept did strike my attention. It leads to the will of humans versus the will of a higher authority.
That perhaps it is the the comparison point of the workings of both a God and a man...
This could possibly be a lasting proof where man has failed and God has succeeded.
Perhaps in by the death of others we can see where mankind is weak.
And perhaps in by people dying of illness, it shows the flaw and futility of humanity's struggle for survival.
Just a thought.
I'll go back to lurking now.

Or.... Maybe the idea behind that is, if everyone lived perfect lives without horrors or illness or death, we would feel invincible, like we don't need God. When the thing about God is, when you find out that God is all you've got left, you'll also find that God is all you need.
