While I would love nothing more then a movie that has nothing but Autobots and Decepticons running around, it alas would never be picked up. Unfortunately, Hollywood is in the same state as the Japanese are when it comes to Transformers, as shown by the movie. Even if you make the robots actual characters - and you can't deny that Bumblebee was a real character, and even Optimus Prime's character was made crystal clear and solid when he first showed up - they both insist that ther need to be puny flesh creatures for people to attatch to. Considering how the two msot revered TF series either had filler, random humans (Season 1 and 2 of G1) or no humans whatsoever (BW), and the more revilved ones (Armada) have humans hogging the spotlight....yeah. If it had better writing for the meatbags, then it probably would've worked better - Sam only came across pretty good due to Shia's acting.

Best human is still Spike - there to mostly just to ask the "Hey, what's that" question, occasionally bring Soundwave into the Autobot base, then....um, do the nasty with Carly so his kid could be in Season 3. All right, that last one takes him down a notch, but still!

Wasn't Sam supposed to be Spike in the movie? I can see why they would change the names around, but it seems they were both essentially the same character.

And chances are that someone has mentioned this before in this thead.

Yes, Sam is basically Spike, as promotional material list his Dad as Ron "Sparkplug" Witwicky - Sparkplug being Spike's dad in the show.

I'm a bit torn now though. After watching the Transformers movie, I left with a "That was awesome" feeling. However, after reading that VG Cats strip, I can see his point on how the movie was. It should of had more Transformer action, but the fleshy human side of the story wasn't TOO bad.

I fail to see how there were too many humans. I don't see how there can be. Did no one else ever wonder where all the humans were in the cartoon? How do you have robots that are several stories high and at war with eachother not end up in major population centers causing trillions of dollares in damage? How would humans not get caught up in it? How would they not choose a side?

Who cares, it's giant fighting robots.

I just saw the old cartoon movie on Tv the other day. Now THAT was a film. I also noticed that it appeared to be Eric Idle doing a voice. I was like 'whaaaa'.

I just saw Transformers and I thought it was awesome. I really don't understand why so many people complain. Since when did movies have to do more than entertain people? It's as if people go to a movie expect their whole life to be changed. Ugh! What I think is worse is the people who've already decided it will suck before even watching it. People need to lighten up.

I'm also shocked that DJ has hardly any complaints at all. If anyone would have any legitimate complaints it would be him.

The only real complaint I have is how friggin WHITE those soldiers teeth were in the intro scene. I swear I was almost blinded. I'm suing. :P

G1 Transformers: Entertaining for the time cartoon whose sole goal is to make money by selling toys by having robots fight.

Movie: Entertaining for the time movie whose sole goal is to make money by exposing those who aren't above to it and selling merchendise that goes with it, which includes toys, by having robots fight.

I'm failing to see where it failed to uphold the "spirit" of Transformers here. Yes, the writers did always occasionally TRY to make something more as far as stories go for the shows - this was especially true for Beast Wars - but in the end, they're made so little kids will pester their parents about buying them Optimus Prime and Megatron. The movie is just another interepretation of the frnchise, and as a result, it didn't do anything wrong in its attempts to reach a new audience.

I, other TransFans, and the more sci-fi/high fantasy saavy audience would probably love a story withjust the Autobots and Decepticons on Cybertron - but the vast majority of joe-schmoes won't bat an eye, no matter how well written or how good the characterizations are. And that....would be like the anal anime fans who want it so anime is enver dubbed and only subbed. But doing that, sure, it'll make you happy, but it'll guarantee that it will never, ever be popular beyond a very small niche and in the end, most companies won't bother since it wouldn't be worth the money.

Basically, you have to take a hit. TransFans should already know this fromt he toyline. Both the Alternators and Titanium series TF's were pretty complicated toys, and while Hasbro did their best to market them at the little kids who bought Cybertron and such, it ended up just being the collectors who bought them, and mostly on-line since brick & mortar stores were so packed of the first wave that little kids didn't want that they enver ordered anymore.

And now, both are cancelled. For good. One would think that'd be enough to show TransFans that despite all the fanwank Hasbro does give us at BotCon and whatnot, we are but an insignificant dropin the bucket comapred to the actual target - little kids and, in the case of this movie, the general public.

If it were only directed at us, we'd be lucky for this to be a comicbook.

Eric Idle, indeed, played Wreck-Gar the Junkion, who only speaks in quotes from tv or radio. It was later referenced in the comicbook when he saw Megatron floating through space and said "Bring out your dead!"

Megatron, of course, replies "I'm not dead yet."

There are quite a few names in that original movie, with Orsen Wells and Leonard Nimoy being the most obvious ones - hell, an amusing drunken game to play is to watch the Breakfast Club with your eyes closed and imagine everything Judd Nelson says is coming from Hot Rod. <.<

Ethan, try not to respond in threads with the same response, like you did here and in the Simpsons thread. Give some insight on why the movie was "awesome". What was your favorite part, for instance? Otherwise it kinda comes across as spam, and spam breaks The Rules.

Thanks!
