I know this theory probably has been posted before ;) but I am just wondering what everbody thinks of it.

They say that Rauru is Gaebora Kaepora in Oot. He sometimes takes the shape of an owl.
If you notice on Oot's ending Gaebora Kaepora is flying around. Later when the sages stand on the mountaintop Gaebora Kaepora is not there.

still, it is just a theory. Does anybody have any other imformtion about this?

am I spelling his name right? ;)

Well, the only canon information we have about him is that he's very good natured and that the rumors say that Kaepora Gaebora is an ancient sage.

It also also a canon fact that his name is Kaebora Gaebora, not the other way around. :P

It's also a fact that in Japan, last name comes before first. =P

Anyways, I always liked the idea that the owl was Ganon's agent, stringing Link along in order to open the Sacred Realm.

I always beleived he was one of the seven ancient sages, of which we know of: Fado, Laruto, Kaepora Gaebora and Rauru.

And of those, only the latter two have been said to be ancient Sages.

and in case anyone's confused about pronunciation.. his kana-ized name is kepora gebora.. so it goes 'ei' at least i think so.. i read it in a guide which had forgotten to translate some of the names (akindo nut, and so on) so.. yeah. they called him kepola..

Wouldn't it be Kepora though? No L in Japanese...

No r in Japanese, either. They have one letter that's halfway between our R and L, so no matter what, if someone pronounces an English word with a Japanese accent, it sounds like he's saying the other letter.

Hence, Engrish and Elic Crapton.

I thought there was an R in Japanese, and that it could sound like the English L when you rolled it.

It sounds a lot like Spanish's soft r.

Anyway...yeah, I always thought Kaepora was Rauru in disguise. They have the same nature, same look, how else can his character be developed?, and when the Sages gather on the mountain, old Rauru isn't there. Kaepora, however, is seen flying away...

It's still the same in Japan (Kaepora first, then Gaebora).

Rauru can't be Kaepora Gaebora, because KG is a REINCARNATION of an ancient Sage. That means he has died and been reincarnated as an owl. An the fact that one of the Gossip Stones says that he's good natured proves that he's not a bad guy.

It could be possible that Rauru was already a spirit from the start of OOT. Notice we never see a younger version of him in the past portion of OOT, nor do we see him at all in the past, like we do the other sages. Then again, why would Rauru need to be awakened like the other sages...if he's already awakened and flying around as an owl?

Haven't you noticed that the owl's face looks like Rauru's

I don't remember where I heard that Rauru is the only one remaining from the ancient sages.

Pleae don't make any Rauru=Ganondorf theories, anyway its WW Ganon he looks like and so does Nohansen.

Is Rauru the King... no.

the gossip stones said kg is a reincarnation of an ancient sage. reincarnation as in dead > alive again

rauru seems to be very much alive, they even went so far to make him breath (which is purely nonessential detail, seeing how many OoT characters don't). this suggests to me that they're two seperate characters

I never got how people thought they were one in the same, unless you apply the possibility that one is the Astral Projection of the other.

yeah.. the owl is a weird talking owl guy but he's definitely an owl.. too odd to be human or some astral projection/reincarnation-of-a-guy-who's-still-around..

Exactly, there was a massive debate in the old LA about the Ancient Sages who forged the Master Sword and Temple of Time. We kind of went over these theories a couple times, any returning members know them well (but that's no reason to stop discussing).

I really don't know how this theory came to be. There is no absolute proof but it just seemed to make sense.

Perhaps he is the owl from Link's Awakening. That was the guardian of the Wind Fish's dream. Once the Wind fish was woken, he was out of a job, so got a new position as pretend ancient sage in Hyrule.
