I have not been able to get the butterflies to turn into fairies with the deku stick. i was wondering if there is any location that works best or a certain technique? do you walk into them with the stick, hit them with the stick or roll with the stick? on a seperate topic, there is a man in green clothes on his knees in hyrule town (child) and kakariko village (adult) who says "sell with c" but i have not been able to sell him anything. what does he buy?

i haven't dkone the butterfly thingeither, but the guy will buy a fish or bug from you. (or a fairy, but who would sell that?) i think he buys anything you put in a bottle, actually, but don't take my word for it, i'm not entirely sure...

He only buys creatures like fish, bugs or Fairies.
As for the butterfly thing, it is VERY difficult, I forget how exactly you do it, but I think you just need to walk with the stick and touch a butterfly with the tip of it. But don't quote me on that, I forget exactly, maybe you just have to whack it.
You don't have to roll, I don't remember doing that.

I did it once. Outside of Hyrule Castle, where Malon gives you that egg. There's some butterflies floating around there near the tree in the corner to your left as you first come in. Also, if you can manage it without getting caught, there's some butterflies floating up near the flowers just up on the higher part of ground, where the guards are all patrolling. I did it down on the lower ground, but I did see it happen up in the gardens, I can't remember who did it though.
All you need do is whip out your Deku Stick and walk around until you touch a butterfly with the tip. As Fyxe said it is really difficult cos the butterflies are all over the place when they fly, and so you're best option is to walk really slowly.
And if you haven't caught all of the Gold Skulltulas yet and wanna make some fast money, use that guy. He buys bugs for 50 rupees.
Catch a bug, and set all your C's to bottles. When you empty out the bug on the ground, it becomes 3 bugs, so you really quickly catch all three, then go sell them except for one. Go empty that one out again, and again it becomes 3. Catch them all again, sell except for one, repeat.

He eats them. Lots of protein and fibre.
Of course after you catch all the skulltulas, you can just fill up your wallet from the cursed man. But hey, bugs are good if you're not that far in.

He doesn't buy fairies. I don't think there's anywhere you can sell fairies. Anywhere.

i just wanted to let you guys know, i finally got the butterfly trick to work. thanks for everyone's suggestions. with advice from everyone and a little experminting, i found a consistent, fast and fairly easy way to to get it to work. the following method works great the circle of stones near the entrance of zora's river and at the hyrule castle field near the western wall. with deku out, position your self so the buttefly is between you and a wall. just walk SLOWLY up to the butterfly so that it will fly into the wall, it will be stuck near the wall and your stick will touch it.
