Alright, I figured that you used some grunge-ish brushes or likewise for the background..
And what do you mean about the render?

I made a new Banner!

Oh, yeah, that's how I figured you did the picture, I just didn't know what the terminology was
.
I have quite a few sets of grunge brushes, although I don't use them as much as I should, since I usually end up filtering patterns as layers, too (rendering clouds and working from there).. I actually find that blood spatter brushes work well as grunge brushes, too.

i use of abstract brushes, and i really love blendign the pics in the sig, like the samus.
a great way of blending it is making a colour balance layer on top of all layers
and the render will be really nice with it i will make a tutorial on staturday.

Grunge brushes are pretty much abstract brushes, aye?
Yeah, building up lots of layers is fun, although you have to keep them distinct enough from each other so you don't lose it all.
And yes, colour balance layers do help quite a bit to make it all blend together, i've expirimented a bit with that.. Or a colorized layer that's screen or hue mode... It'll be interesting to see exactly what your techniques are, once you write the tutorial.
.. And if you don't mind, give some feedback on the couple of tutorials that I made in the tutorial thread we have here, I've been trying to get the glass effect to work...

Probably the latter, it's just they're both so awesome.
