Someone should fire the whole naming department.

"Alpha Sapphire" in particular is really awkward to say.

Alpha Sapphire makes the game sound like it's an early development version.

Other than that, I guess it was somewhat expected, even if the last Pokémon generation skipped the remakes.  Maybe the idea is to make remakes for the second handheld generation from the original release.

I'm worried that they're promising a super dramatic adventure. Literally 0 people play these for the nonexistent story.

You know, I wonder if there's something else to this game given how there's absolutely nothing told in that trailer. It may well be just a rush job given the typical but bad financial news they just released (everything but 3DS software doing poorly for Nintendo, 240 million dollar loss for the quarter) but I wonder.

EDIT: Yeah, I figured they were saving the Ruby/Sapphire remake for if the chips were down. Can't say I'll be picking it up, I miss when Pokémon games had more than just 9 months time between each others.

Meh.

Honestly, Gen III was my least liked.  Mainly, I think from the lack of the ability to bring my 40 different LVL 100s and Pokerus up from Gold and SIlver.  But also, I felt like the lack of the weekly schedule was a step back, as was the lack of any effects to show the transition from day to night (most people didn't even realize Ruby and Sapphire HAD an internal clock).

I logged the most time into Ruby/Saph, but it also wasn't my favorite gen. It introduced my bro Milotic, though.

It's funny, I always thought that Gen III was the least liked or remembered of the games but a ton of people are totally into it, judging by the reactions. I honestly didn't care and didn't get into it 'till Emerald, and even then I never actually beat the Elite Four until after I was almost done with Pearl. Oddly, Rayquaza is still my favorite Legendary and I liked the myth for that trio, though even for the series it's my least favorite overall storyline.

Maybe it'll end up being a sequel to X/Y that takes place in Hoenn, but I doubt it.

Gen III is my favourite as I never had the patience or inclination to level up Gen II pokemon past beating Red so I wasn't disappointed with the fresh start. I can rattle off a list of awesomeness right now:

Natures

Abilities

Berries

3 great starter lines

Crazy type combos

Metagross

More dragons

Large routes (Johto's routes have not aged well)

Super rare encounters (Feebas and Chimecho)

Weather

Metagross

Double battles

10 legendaries and 2 pseudo-legendaries

Metagross

Since we already have Mega Blaziken the other two are pretty much guaranteed, and if that means a Grass/Dragon then Nintendo can take my money now.

Metagross.

Metagross has been neat in theory, but I never had the patience for it. Raising Beldum is painful.

He's also one of the pseudo-legendaries, which are always popular, regardless of the generation.  Shit, I got 3 trained up myself (One of them is even Shiny).

For me, Vet, Gen IV was the big jump up.  The separating of physical and special away from the element of the attack really evolved the competitive nature of the game.  That and actually being able to beat you from across the Atlantic Ocean.  :P

If I get one of these for Christmas, it will be exactly nine years since I first played Pokémon Emerald.

The important questions are: Will May be in it? And will her hairstyle change?

Also I bet the reason for the abrupt announcement was so they could mention these games at their Investors Meeting yesterday.

I've had an urge to replay FireRed and Emerald lately, but I've been a bit burnt out on Pokemon the past couple of years. Still going to be picking up one of these regardless though, leaning towards Omega Ruby at the moment.

Serebii has Corocoro scans.

To the surprise of......no one, Mega Sceptile (Grass/Dragon) and Mega Swampert (Has Swift Swim). Little disappointed that the Team Aqua/Magma divide follows the original games rather then finds a way to keep both in like Emerald though.

I thought a confirmed Grass/Dragon would decide it, but they had to present me a Hulkpert to make the choice once again agonising!

Team Aqua and Magma's redesigns are ridiculous. Looks like the outfit set for some goofy anime, despite that Pokémon could very well be (and sometimes is) just that.

Looking at the pics again, did the guy following Sugimori's model sheets get drunk and accidentally start drawing the back of May's head before catching it and try to fix it instead of starting again? It kinda makes her look even goofier then before.

Scans over at serebii have given us:

Mega Altaria, Dragon/Fairy with Pixilate
Mega Lopunny, Normal/Fighting with Scrappy
Mega Salamence, type unchanged, Aerilate.

Come on Mega Milotic, pretty please. :3:

So, there's a demo coming out in the next few weeks. Not too big a deal and kinda pointless, but apparently one of the Pokemon you're given can be transferred to your real game, as can whatever bonus item you get after completing it. Not much, but it's something.
