But, isnt it entirely possible that Jesus's followers filtered out 3 days after because they had gotten over the loss of their friend and leader and were going out into the world in order too spread the word of Christianity?
Also, people talked about Jesus all the time back then, especially after his death, isnt it possible and probable that these people formed up into a group on Pentecost and claimed there beleif in the "Messiah"?

We've convinced you that Jesus is the Messiah?
Evidence, 1, Alak, 0
For the record, I'm not talking about the Jesus part, I'm talking about the convicing thing.

But it really seems like something major mush have happened on that Sunday. The apostles had completely given up and were hiding for their lives. The decision to go public again would not have been made lightly, because their very lives were at stake.
Also, history tells us that Jews from all over the Roman Empire had gathered in Jerusalem, so these Jews were not people who were extremely familiar with Jesus. At the time of his life, Jesus was only really known in Judea. Outside of that, very few people knew of him, so many of these converts had never heard his name before. Pentecost was the first day that Christianity spread outside of Judea in any significant ammount.

Then explain how a group of Jews could possibly think that a human being, who didn't free Israel from the Romans, could possibly be Messiah and God? Alak has already explained: Jews don't believe that God becomes a man, and the Messiah is supposed to be a political (possibly military) leader.Originally posted by Loki Tsin Dante@Sep 16 2004, 09:08 PM
Word of Mouth?
So if Jesus was so different, why would Jews believe him?

Well one of the prophets who came very recently (considering humanity's relatively long 270,000 year existence) is going to come back real soon. Unfortunately, he'll be too busy kicking ass to explain anything.Originally posted by Alakhriveion@Sep 17 2004, 08:45 AM
You know what we need? We need another prophet or something. Someone to make all this crap make sense. I mean, from the outside, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are basically just massive sects of one screwed-up religion. If there's a god, can't he just step in already?

Mind you, I'm thinking pluralistically, so don't jump down my throat for mixing.

The truh is, word of mouth happened later-- Paul went around preachin' up a storm and sowing the seeds of Christianity. Without him, word of mouth might never have gotten out to the extent that it did.
But remember-- Paul was gung-ho anti-christian one day and gung-ho Christian the next. The Apostles were shaking in their boots beieving that they were wrong one day, and preaching a message that could get them killed the next. Thes things don't just happen overnight without some sort of catalyst. And if it's not God, then what?
