I want to be excited, but honestly I can't really say that I am. If they chose to remake MM or any of the first four games in 3D, I would have been really excited, but WW is tied with the Oracles as my least favorite Zelda game. It's by no means a bad game, it just lacked any real challenge, save for the Triforce Shards, which was just plain annoying. Who knows, maybe the remake will have more a challenge, only time will tell.

Well the video at least answered my question as to why they're making a remake before a new game.

SFU TOOM! YOU DON'T COUNT! And while I agree I would have preferred MM more than WW, I still love WW.
I didn't see the Nintendo Direct, just the zelda thing. Now I want a Wii U even more than I did before D: I NEED MONEYS.
I hope the yoshi game is good, we haven't had one in a long time.
And also damn, I wish I could go to E3. I've wanted to go forever, but this one has playable Mario and Kart, and at least screens of the New SSB game.

I'm disappointed it's not on the 3DS but this will probably be a "Nintendo, take my money, take it!" game and make me buy a Wii U.
Can't help it. That's christmas decided.

The only downside of the video was that Aonuma stated "our new Zelda title (Zelda Wii U) looks like it is going to take some time to complete"
Edit: Here's the video:

Don't get me wrong; Wind Waker is one of my favorite Zelda games, but it also strikes me as the one which will benefit the *least* from the remake because of the art style, even after updating the textures to HD.
Remakes should ONLY be considered if a game meets at least two of these three criteria:
1.) It is a game which is not aging well. Either the graphics or the control scheme make the game unplayable to new players.
2.) It is a game with a cult following who want to play the game again.
3.) Content is either improved or added into the remake.
Ocarina? It's aging decently, but could be ported easily to the 3DS via emulator, so I'd argue they didn't update the content enough to justify the remake. Wind Waker? HA! The cel-shaded graphics don't look washed out compared to either Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess, and the control scheme is almost identical. There is absolutely no need for this remake; just port the game over to the e-shop and sell it for $10-15 so it undercuts the used Wind Waker copies hovering around $20. Maybe add some additional sidequest material if you're feeling generous.
That said, there is another game which easily fits the first two criteria. In fact, it blows WW out of the water in those regards.
A Link to the Past.
An icon of Zelda games with a cult following which remains unplayed because so many players (like me) can't get over playing a 2D game. It practically screams the need for a remake.
What I would have done:
Remake ALttP for 3DS
Recreate* MM for Wii U
Port Ocarina to 3DS and Wii U e-shop.
*By "recreate" I mean a remake which goes back to the drawing board to improve the game's gameplay and script. Remakes typically have little or nothing "creative" done to their content.
What Nintendo did:
Remake Ocarina for 3DS
Remake of Wind Waker for Wii U
???
Definitely not enough for me to be able to hop on anything. I've kept my GameCube for a reason.

It was called Ocarina of Time. And The Wind Waker. And Twilight Princess. And Skyward Sword.

I think I have a better understanding as to why Square-Enix refuses to remake FFVII, despite the outcry from the fans.

It helps that Ocarina of Time 3D did well, too.
They already made a remake of A Link to the Past.
It was called Ocarina of Time. And The Wind Waker. And Twilight Princess. And Skyward Sword.
Eh...sort of. Similar? Yes, but Zelda games have always been that way to a fault, with the possible exceptions of Zelda II and Majora's Mask. I've played enough of ALttP to say that Ocarina was not a 3D version of it. Among other notable differences, Ocarina's script was substantially simpler.

But Ocarina of Time is different because there is no history set in place. Sure we have the creation story and the Origins of the Triforce but that is it. But I'm not too upset about this because the events of OoT feature many of the legends that are mentioned in A Link to the Past. This time we are making the historical events of the older games come to pass and when you think about it in the grand scheme of things, that's really exciting. And a lot of the newer Zelda titles have featured that same angle, that these game stories are doing a part in writing that history as a new Link on a new adventure.
I don't think there should be a remake to A Link to the Past only because I feel that remakes for the sake of nostalgia are a terrible idea. If anything, I'd like to see new adventures that take place further down the timeline. We have our decline of Hyrule, perhaps we can see it's restoration.

Perhaps they could have tided us over until the new game with a new Four Swords Adventures type thing. Remember how in the original you played on screen and then went onto the Gameboy Advance screen for going underground and stuff? Isn't that exactly what you can do with the WiiU controller?
