I doubt my computer could run it, and I don't have any console newer than a Gamecube, so... :(

But I do like that picture Synile showed me! "Wispmother." I need to know more. Is she as awesome as she looks?

Last night:

Run errands. Get Skyrim and a new XBox later in the afternoon. Skyrim. Dinner? Oh right. More Skyrim. Go out with friends and socialize, or keep playing nerdy adventure game? ....Mental debate. Go out with friends. Wishing I'd stayed home and played Skyrim. Come home at midnight. Bed? No. Skyrim. Go to sleep at 4 AM.

Today:

Wake up. Skyrim. Lunch. Skyrim. Skyrim. Realize that evening is rapidly approaching out of nowhere. Skyrim. Drag self away to make dinner. Soon there will be more Skyrim.

I haven't yet run into these wispmother creatures. I'm too busy joining LoD. I mean. The Dark Brotherhood.

There's just so much.... STUFF. ;___;

Thought when I got it that I'd tinker around with different skill sets this time. Nope - went straight back to my Oblivion-type character. Stealthy, but armed with a greatsword. Because no one said sneaky had to mean discreet. I do appreciate the dual wielding, though. And limited magic. Though it feels a little Bioshock-y. Not that that's a bad thing.

I'm making a point to play and finish Zelda first before even looking at Skyrim. There's no way I can possibly divide up my time between those two games, and since Skyrim is substantially longer, I'll go for Skyward Sword. Fear not, it shall be devoured in time.

As it stands, I still have Sonic Generations and the Riddler Challenges in Arkham City to finish up in a week, and possibly transfer (I mean, "Transfar") my Peacewalker save to the PS3 to finally play that game. So nergh. <.<

Lena, your play schedule mirrors my own. Except last night my PS3 and I went to a friends house, at his request. We marveled at the game until 5am, and so long today I was nearly late for my 5pm shift.

One of my friends had the impropriety to schedule a wedding on Skyrim Day, and even though I gave the bride months worth of notice, she wouldn't listen to reason. I'm happy to announce, however, that Skyrim with a hangover is still awesome.

I'm really enjoying the scenery and how they streamlined character growth. Not quite sold on the perks system, but I'm coming around. Kind of stressed about all the quests I'm already signed up for. Accidentally joined a werewolf fraternity (I actually pegged them as vampires at first). Once thing I noticed is that they may have fixed the difficulty shenanigans that were the only major issue with Oblivion. In my wanderings, I happened across a giant and got squished in two hits. It was really kind of refreshing. I also like how they seem to have made a pure mage viable.

Ever since Morrowind, I've settled on One-Handed Weapons (typically longswords, but I mixed it up for this game and went with Axes for the DoT), Shield, Heavy armor, Destruction and Restoration. It makes for a very scrappy build.

Yeah, I've noticed the difference in difficulty too. I rarely died in Oblivion. With Skyrim, if I wander where a newborn adventurer ought not wander, bad things happen. "What a pretty snow lion OH MY GOD."

I also like how they've done character development in this one. It can be a little overwhelming to choose from all those perks, though. At least when you fist look at what they have to offer. I had my first random dragon encounter earlier today - a small one attacked Winterhelm while I was trying to shop. I have a feeling the random behavior will be good fun.

(How dare someone plan a wedding on Skyrim Day!)

edit: voice acting also much better

I won't be getting the game. My computer doesn't have the power to run the game, and to buy the nessessary upgrade costs almost as much as buying a new computer. I won't get it for the Xbox 360 either, as with the previous Elder Scrolls games the PC version will eventually have mods made to fix and improve what's in the game (and, like last with Oblivion, people will call me an idiot).

Yeah, I had two similar experiences (in addition to the giant). Once, I was minding my own business (trying to circumvent the giant this time), looked away from the screen long enough to take a sip of water, looked back and OMG MAMMOTH! Fortunately, it's easy to just back away from them. Then later on, I was doing my usual cliff jumping to discover new areas and landed inside a Sabre Cat's lair. That was unpleasant.

Also, I found another giant later on. "This time, I'm level seven," said I. "Things will go different this time."

He uppercutted me so hard with his club that my character could have flown over a mountain. No joke. My save could have finished loading long before he hit the ground.

EDIT: Oh! And Ice Wraiths! I wandered into a standing stone, and got murdered by ice wraiths (first time I saw them). So I came back in with a very potent AoE fireblast scroll. One punch!

No random dragons for me yet. I'm still trying to figure out how my perk plan is going to work out. I think my character is a little too unfocused right now. Has anyone found a lockpicking spell, because that would save me a lot of perks.

Don't worry Husky. My computer can play the game, but we won't be getting it any time soon. We opted for the Zelda CE (we didn't have a Motion Plus anything anyway, so it actually saves us $20!). Skyrim will be very easy to find for years to come, so we prioritize things like CEs or our obscure titles from Atlus, NIS, and XSeed. Skyrim's on the Christmas list though. ^^

I probably won't be able to get the game for a couple of years, until the kind of graphics card needed for the game become much cheaper (at the moment they're like £200-£400), and for almost every game except the newest my computer can run them on full settings better than the Xbox 360 can. It'll probably be one of the first games I get when I get a new computer (like I did with Oblivion, and Morrowind before it).

Hmm, random dragons seem to flee an area sometimes. Came across one flying over a small village, nicked it with my bow, and it got all huffy and flew away instead of staying to fight.

As for the civil war.... you know, both the Empire and the Stormcloaks are dickish. Empire's all about unity and prosperity, but they're unfeeling tyrants who put promising heroes on the execution block. Stormcloaks promote independence, but are also racist asshats.

I always end up sneaking in every game where it's possible to be stealthy. Whenever I'm exploring a bandit-ridden cave, Metal Gear songs start playing through my head. Custom soundtrack.

Steve: I've only found potions of lockpicking; no spells. So far.

I fought my first random encounter dragon. I had too much weight in bones and scales, so I sold them. I didn't know if my supply was going to be limited or not.

As far as perk building, my character is real impulsive thus far (surprise). I'm not really planning on actually charting out in advance what sort of skills I want access to. It was only this morning I thought to read up on if it was possible to max everything or not. <_<

The Sightless Pit is bad news for low level characters. Full of Falmer. No retreat.

After a series of 5-second fights against the same two guys, I had no choice but to notch down the difficulty and go cry in the shower for 40 minutes.

I've been raising chickens as undead minions to throw against the random dragon attacks. They last about a half a second each, but it makes me giggle everytime one of them goes up in smoke. Plus, since they are undead, they turn into piles of ashes once dead so I can pretend the dragon incinerated them.

As for dragons randomly flying off during combat.... once dragons are angered, they tend to attack everything on the ground within their flight pattern. I had a dragon fly over a hill, take out a giant, then come back to do a strafing run on me, before flying over another hill to attack a wolf. They're kinda angry at the world, which makes them hard to pin down sometimes.

Also.... stealth mage with flamethrower hands ftw :3

Let me ask now before too many spoiler-ish things fall in here - while I'm going to get the game regardless, is there anything at all like the Oblivion Gates here? Because I gotta tell you, that one thing is what really soured me on the last game as opposed to Morrowind. I mean, yeah, I ended up playing it for awhile too, but I just dreaded seeing one of those gates that was in the storyline. Hell, I hated it so much I out and out refused to do any of the optional ones and in quite possibly the only time in any of this sort of game, I whizzed past the main game before going out and exploring.

I've been avoiding the main quest, but I haven't seen anything like it. I know what you meant about Oblivion. The gates sucked you out of a gorgeous world and plopped you into drab demon-land with recycled layouts. I think the closest is dragon encounters, which is far more excellent.

P.S. The gates DID give those enchanting stones that were worth the trouble.

No, nothing like the Oblivion gates. At least not yet (but I've only finished "act 1" according to the UESPWiki). I hated those too. I used to get covered in speed enchantment stuff, drink about twenty skooma, and just sprint through.

Bordering level 16 now. Just did a rather large dungeon-crawling quest to retrieve a lost weapon. Grueling battle at the end of it, low on healing potions after the fact. Grab the quest item and then head outside to relax. Immediately upon leaving the cave, a DRAGON LANDS ON TOP OF ME. :rage: Survived and killed it, though. It was just immediate. Loading screen finished and BAM.

end of day edit:

Working my way through the Dark Brotherhood quest line. Just like last time, you'll get a free horse at some point. A horse that bitchslapped a dragon while I was en route to a murder job. I like this horse.

However, it's hard to ignore the fact that nobody understands that I'm obviously evil. I'm wandering through town in Brotherhood armor. I'm riding a black horse with eyes that are glowing red. Nobody is bothered or curious about it.

I follow someone to a dimly lit section of a large room. I kill that person while technically 'hidden.' The other people in the building come running when they see my victim's body. Me hovering over it. With a bloody knife sheathed at my hip. Nobody suspects me. "Oh my, what happened here?"

I really need to locate the brotherhood.

In the meantime, I love smithing. o____o love it. I go mining (or stealing) and use the ore to make an assload. There's a city where a family by the name of the Silver-bloods live. I looted all their silver, made a shitload of amulets and rings, and have been living off the profits for awhile. Even bought a house.

Okay, so, Dawnstar is the unluckiest town ever. At least in my game. I've only been there two or three times. Each time, a dragon has attacked it. And they all died at pretty much the same spot. Is anyone else getting harassed by dragons as much as I am? Almost very time I turn around, it's like "OH HELLO. ;d" I think I have about 8 dragon souls in reserve, and... five shouts at this point?

Also, dragons apparently fight each other.

I don't know if there's a main quest that leads you to more dragon shouts, but it's hell trying to find where the words are. At least without looking at a guide - most of which are incomplete at this stage, anyway. Scattered all over! Mostly finding them in ruins - especially barrows.
