I've been wanting to make a thread about this for some time now, but I've never gotten around to it until now.

I used to have a strange habit of browsing the archives to try and learn about LA's history, but I can only find out so much, due to the fact that a lot is gone due to previous hacks and what not. What I'm hoping for in this thread, is that some of the older members will tell about LA's history (the farther back the better, but I'm not sure we have anyone from when it started). Anything worth telling about, previous dorms, old notable members, events, etc.

I joined in 01, and I honestly never really considered myself one of the older members...but I guess compared to the members now, I actually am one of the old members (via join date, not real age thank you! )

But I wouldn't be able to give you an accurate history of LA, as I really tended to stay in just my dorm for a long time...or the commons. What exactly are you wanting for a 'history' of LA anyways? Its basically the same stuff you see now, except a bit more activity, and topics that were relevant for the time frame....

Fun Fact: I've never dormed it up. Dunno why, I just never got around to it, and by then I decided it was more fun being a hobo for some reason. I think I was originally here in '02, at least until we had that major hack explodey thing that went down. I was usually just here for the Zelda stuff, and then school got in the way for a while...I only hit 1,000 posts like...2 years ago.

LA started in.... 2000 or so? I joined in early 2003, so I'm only just a 'middle aged' member.


2003:

Dorms were The Labyrinth of Doom (LoD), Hall of Heroes (HoH), and Kakariko Village (Kak). I was quickly placed into LoD, which was ruled by Chik and DevilPaladin. I immediately began to try and usurp Chik's power and seize control of the dorm. She fought back. Endless catfighting and making out ensued. It was clearly the best dorm - full of activity and family bonding and insanity and perversion. The Hall was full of sarcastic do-gooders and Kakariko was full of jaded artists. DJ will correct me on their full description.

The rest of the forum was largely the same, give or take some sections. We had a Nature section and Romance was somewhat different. Contro didn't exist when I joined. We created a forum called "Lifestyles" to serve as a controversial section. Initial posts in there were all essay-sized and intense.


2004:

Dorms were re-shuffled. The Labyrinth stayed as it was, but the Hall and Kakariko were disbanded. Their members were mixed up and redistributed into The Desert of Mystery (DoM) and the Chamber of Sages (CoS). DoM was pretty active, almost as much as LoD. Very sarcastic. Had a member group called "The Desert Defenders." Chamber of Sages was nicknamed the Chamberpot by a few of us. Had a mutant themed user group. On the quieter side, but still more artistic than the others.

Then we were hacked and lost everything.

LA restarted with new dorms - Death Mountain, Windfall Island, and Clocktown. We do not typically speak of them, as they didn't do too well (apart from Windfall, which did okay). Decent enough, but most of us were really just missing our old dorms, so they were doomed to failure.


2005:

Another dorm shuffle. Ikana Canyon, The Forsaken Fortress, and The Lost Woods were formed. They did much better! And... um... other stuff happened which I'm sure was important. First Dorm War event, I think.


2006 - 2008:

Largely a blur for me. Two more dorm wars in there. Chronicles started up somewhere in here.


2009:

Calatia and Koridai created. Two dorms instead of three due to lower population.


2010 - 2011:

More blur!

The latter half of 2001 was rather big for RPGs. They were popular when I came along. I'd be as bold as to say as equally active as the Zelda General/Storyline forums. That's what I remember about my first year or so, lots of RPGs and lots of people RPing. And the Jail. Nobody ever forgets the Jail.

I was dormed in LoD, and never again. And so it shall remain.

Who, Necro? Naw, not forbidden...we just talk of him with much snide and sarcasm nowadays. He's fallen into LA silliness and lore at this point.

WARNING: The following may or may not be completely factual. That's just how it is when things start to blur together and you've been a member at one spot on the internet for over a decade. Good grief I was a High School Sophomore when I joined.


So yeah. I joined in October 2001, though others say I was here longer and they may be right. I was but a wee lad, and I was roped into coming here by an on-line buddy of mine who had jsut become a Mod of Storytelling. That's the first thing I can say - LA wasn't always LA. Khuffie can correct me when my memory is fuzzy, but this entire forum was in fact just Zelda Legends, with the more general sections like.....General coming along ina ddition to Zelda specific ones. Gaming wasn't just one forum, but quite a few, divided into Nintendo, Sony, Sega, Microsoft, and even Square and Capcom. Hell, Pokemon had its own forum! Storytelling was but one of the Zelda forums, and of course, we had the RPG, which was all obviously Zelda based, but those were the humble beginnings before its rise and fall. As for myself, I did pretty well, starting off as a meager member and being entrusted with mod positions fairly quickly, modding Nintendo, Square and Pokemon.

This was also the time of the dorms creation. There were -gasp!- FOUR dorms, as the brainchild of that one buddy of mine and another, both of whom recieved Adminships for the idea. They were Clocktown (Chronicle players will note this is what Drake's special project dorm is based on), the msot proficient and popular, and active of all dorms, as well as the decent enough Artic Realm, the Big Boo's Haunt, and Lake Hylia. But forget them, they didn't do as well, especially that last one, and I wans't in them, so nyah. Clocktown was fun, as I was a founding dorm Mod, and I made it a point to entertain everyone in there with contests and a weekly "show" where the prototypical exagerated version of me would run random skits and glorified fanfics as entertainment, usually starring FF characters. Off the top of my head I remember a Power Rangers/Sentai rip-off "movie," a beauty pageant, a talent contest, singers, and an awards show, which ended up being "practice" for the future LA Awards I ran, but that's getting ahead of myself.

Yes, Cremia was mayor. No, I don't know why.

And so it went, week after week, my show being psoted on the dot at 6 PM every Friday night Central Standard Time. Till the forums died. Memory escapes me whether or not it was a hack or whatnot, but yes, forums broke, everything gone. Post counts, RPG's, dorms, everything, destroyed and ravaged. So the forums were put back together, but no, not merely as ZL reconstructed. It was put back together as the first version of Legends Alliance you see today. Dorms were re-constituted, and everything came back alive. The head RPG Mod at the time was christened an Adminship - that's just how popular RPG's used to be, even before the golden age Mitch mentioned above. Dorms went on business as usual, though the individual systems being individual forums was still around.

But alas, underneath the happiness and clam there was something stirring. Something beginnign to rear its ugly head, one that would break the sky and reign down upon the land and begin a maelstrom of deciet and secrets, soem jsutified, and tohers not so much, and ushered in the coming of the incident.

Hm. This whole thing has got me thinking. Remember when we had that discussion a few times about making a Wikipedia entry about LA, and it never came to anything, partially because some people (myself and Alak are the ones I remember) thought it wasn't notable enough? Well, since there's no such thing as notability, would anybody be for/against making a TV Tropes page about the good ol' Alliance? Other websites/fansites/online communities have them there.

Um, I'm a pretty new member, I only joined just in time to be put in DoM before the hack. You can browse the wayback machine for snippets of LA past, though!
