That's really kinda it.
Hate medication. Hate it, hate it, hate it.
But if it's that bad...
Tussin + ibuprofen + benedryl + theraflu

And Vicks.
And sleep.
And orange juice.

I take Zicam, drink lots of liquids to keep the congestion still moving. No hard manual labor and when I go out I dress warmly, obviously, but no big, heavy meals, either. I tend to try to avoid using medications unless I really need it to breathe for sleep; it works by drying up the nasal passages, not actually moving the congestion out.

There's no real alternative. I only take something if symptoms are especially bad, and that's usually at night to keep unwanted fluids from clogging up my breath tubers. Those nighttime meds give me trippy dreams, though, so I avoid them if possible.

If it worsens then Mucinex DM, and only if it's really bad do I take Dayquil because I get higher than a kite on that stuff.
Then at night its either some melatonin pills just to make me sleep, or Nyquil when it's really bad.
I have some prescription stuff too, but I avoid using that as its like the equivalent of a big nuke in terms of cold medicines. Wipes the crap out in one dose, but wipes me off my butt for like two days too.

I refrain from milk, cheese and yogurt as dairy will increase mucus production.
If I have a fever, I might take something like Tylenol to treat it, as high fevers are dangerous so I'd rather not risk it.
If I can't sleep at all due to symptoms, I will sometimes take Dayquil, and if it's really bad and I'm getting desperate, Nyquil.
I have a hard time sleeping when I'm sick, so I end up bundled in blankets on the couch reading or playing light games like Picross3D.

Vodka.
Well if we are going that route then Krupnikas!
That stuff is so good! and it's like Everclear and honey so it sterilizes your throat and then soothes it.

I make Dr. Pogo's Pan-Galactic Sinus Blaster Noodle Soup, which contains ramen made with lots of white and black pepper, wasabi powder, white horseradish, black fungus, straw mushrooms, cayenne pepper, salt and chicken broth. It'll cut right through the crud.

Why don't you do that, He-Man? Surely the power of greyskull could protect you from being injured by such.
Very funny, Steel.

I use pseudoephedrine (sudafed) for the nasal congestion, and ibuprofin for the muscle cramps. I try to avoid nasal sprays like Afrin. They work really well (even for me, and I get really bad congestion). Problem is they also can have a rebound effect. Afrin constricts the blood vessels in your nose and shrinks the tissue so you can breathe. But when it wears off in twelve hours, the blood vessels react by expanding to greater than their normal size, and you get an even worse congestion. My recommendation is that if you're going to use Afrin, don't use it more than one night in a row, or you can actually get addicted to it.
